Physics simulation is, in my opinion, one of the most needed aspects that need to be improved in video games. BF3 carried a lot of hype with destructible elements but it fell short and can always be improved. Games need real time ray tracing too. Great video anyway.
Even if all this stuff in one game is the "future of gaming", if the GAMEPLAY is shit, then I don't give a flying fuck, I'm not going to play it just because it LOOKS pretty.
Space to planet transmission already exists in the game Infinity, which is under developement. Destructable environ at pin-point accuracy also done in Crysis. Lots of the things here are in different games. Just combine em altogether. Except for the physics and chemical parts. Otherwise, most gameplay features are already or being introduced.
I'ts 2011 now and games still look like in 2007: plastic models, shader static water even no waves (only unreal engine and hydroengine has it), no destruction (battlefiled doesnt count), no deformation (even carmageddon from 1997 has deformation), ragdoll got in games only in 2003 but appeared in 1997 is tresspasser then games had prerendered death animations till 2003, best AI is still in F.E.A.R. (2005), portal system has been made in 95-97. Gamedevs are just a lazy greedy fucks
video is posted on 2008....and CRYSIS came 2007...yeah...real futuristic graphic you know...more like video it's self is futuristic but not the video in it, because it's CRYSIS gameplay footage or some free look camera of CRYSIS lol this is fail... :D
@unlaughable My rig can handle, but in small points it lags, because i have Core 2 Duo @2.93Ghz, and on max i forgot how much FPS it takes...i think about 18-25 i think...not less, maybe more...because AA is the problem, can't run on very max, i have HD6850 from XFX BE 1GB, 4GB RAM, but it shows me only 3.2GB using, 32-bit win7, 600w block and motherboard from GIGABYTE S-series EP45-DS3P Ultra Durable 2, but soon i gonna buy intel i5 2500k and GIGABYTE GA-P67A-UD4-B3 P67 ATX Intel Motherboard
@unlaughable but these days it's not like you say, the rig that needs to run good CRYSIS 1 isn't that much, the game is old, and it was made with latest components at that time i think, and those components already are much cheaper than it was at 2007 & 2008, i could run pretty good or normally the CRYSIS 2 with this rig what i have right now, just turned off some option like V-sync and and x4 or x2 AA , only problem i have is the processor, in the game it lags at some points.
otherwise good but some things collide with each other and this realy needs to have a heck of a computer to run it especially if it has voxel graphics!
The future of gaming will be the closest we could get to being God. Technically thats what developers are doing, trying to create realistic physics and simulate physical reality as we know and understand it. Whos to say the first true AI will be a robot, when its more than likely going to be found in a game.
right but i think the most interesting things in the next years wont be only the graphics but the way of rendering light and fluids and of course interactive environment like DMM
They already have a lot of this stuff out! The only problem is that most of it's scripted. When people start making it happen in realtime... that's when the real amazement starts.
@ruekurei88 I hope you're wrong. That's not a very bright gaming future you painted me there. I am going to keep my optimism. Am still very psyched about the new Xbox.
@tubumu Yea well I have hope too. And excited about the new Xbox as well, since Sony said its not gonna put as much into their new system as they did with PS3, and with Xbox steadily growing over the years, so I'm expecting much power from their new system, and maybe they'll actually do something with Kinect?
And I am really interested to see what Nintendo will do with that controller and its games.
@tubumu Dunno about that. With budgets for games skyrocketing and devs making a killing off crappy cell phone games, well I wouldn't hope too much.....
Sure there will always be great and innovative stuff, but its gonna be rarer since devs will not take as much chance and there will be more cloned or dumbed down gaming.
@nikryj Hey I have a brain, why don't you get one too? If you have been paying attention to the games industry , or hell just play games alot, then maybe, just maybe YOU TOO would have these ideas or thoughts, just saying :).
@ruekurei88 you underestimate indie studios. People will notice eventually when the big studios are continually recycling games, that's when these indie studios will shine beyond a tiny hardcore following
@c0dead I wouldn't put too much stock in indie studios if I were you. If you haven't noticed, as soon as any indie studios get big they are instantly bought out. That combined with the fact that most make cheap games, or make games that ape the games of yesteryear or are smaller versions of their bigger brothers.
Long and short of it is, don't put too much stock in indie studios, especially with the cheap instant money maker the appstore is, and with xbl not having nearly the same returns.
@ruekurei88 I wasn't really talking from an investment standpoint, considering they wouldn't be publicly traded anyway. I was talking more along the lines of getting a quality product that isn't put on publisher deadlines, and that is given the proper development and QA process. For example, I recently finished a game called The Witcher 2, and it was refreshing to see a compelling RPG that you can just tell the developers put their whole heart into building the story
@c0dead I haven't played Witcher 2, so I simply wouldn't know how good that story is. What I do know is that a variety of pcrpgs offer excellent and very in depth stories, big budget or indie. Its just, well alot of consumers aren't really interested in that. Better to have everything streamlined and more simplified for mass consumption.
I'll take your word for it on Witcher 2 tho, I'll play it eventually, altho that sex stuff is a bit of a turn off, as in it doesnt seem necessary.
@c0dead Right, because indie games arent recycled shit too right?
We get HURR RETRO graphics that look worse than the fucking atari, "Hilarious" Refferences to popular 90's games and some retarded plot made solely to convey some stupid deeper meaning.

@boymatmat Obviously someone has the money.... as they are doing it NOW. It is the general market that does not have the abundance of hardware and technology to utilize their software in a ubiquitous nature. It will be a long time before rich people are throwing away enough hardware for the general population to use software like this in gaming. And by general population, I do not mean those living under any poverty lines...
@PeterTheBanana ummm wtf crysis has its own engine called cryengine 2 and cryengine 3 farcy uses something else called fire...umm somthing :P but the beggining is crysis
@comicguy00 Only some do, and the more difficult graphics, like fluid rendering/simulation, only work well on high-end platforms and in their singular forms. Also gaming isn't just about looks..
@knabbers Imo, the next step in gaming is realistic physics. BF: BC and BF3 will be a step in the right direction, but it's still severely limited. Once you get the tech to do realistic physics, a fully living world isn't far behind. Just imagine a planet with a fully functioning ecosystem (not quite as diverse as Earth's, tho, cause that wouldn't be possible), just on a macro-level. It would do a ton for immersion. Graphics don't mean shit without story and gameplay to back it up, tho.
@Bunji2k6 I'm waiting for the tech to enable full physics and chemical testing labs to be possible before I can release my game... Hardly seems original now though, bastards.
@nazaxprime Yea, you could either wait for that or "fake it" :P Give the player the illusion of depth, when in actuality it's very limited. This becomes a problem when the players hit any of the limitations, tho, cause then the immersion just folds. But, yeah, you could do like Valve and say "Fun first, everything else is secondary." Seems to have worked out so far.
as someone who grew up on the nes and genesis, i have to say that now is a pretty amazing time to be a gamer. never in my wildest nerd child fantasies - back when super mario bros. 3 seemed like the most mind-blowing thing ever produced by human hands - could i have imagined that technology like this would one day be powering my video games.
@Xmazm : That's Infinity, an engine that has been in development for a number of years, now. I believe they are called I Novae Studios now. Check it out :)
some of the clips are not for gaming. In other words, they need to be simulated first (can take up to 20 hours) THEN rendered out (take up to 10 hours). FumeFX and real flow for example....but other than that a lot of this is for gaming ;)
dude do you know what kind of machine you would need to have all of these things in one game...you would be able you do this on an xbox or ps3. You would need some kind of super computer.
Physics simulation is, in my opinion, one of the most needed aspects that need to be improved in video games. BF3 carried a lot of hype with destructible elements but it fell short and can always be improved. Games need real time ray tracing too. Great video anyway.

@BIOSHOCKFOXX you probably don't understand the meaning of all these features.
computers today can't handle all these things all at once. you need a supercomputer to be able to handle all these.

so imagine the requirements to max out a game with all these things.

as someone who grew up on the nes and genesis, i have to say that now is a pretty amazing time to be a gamer. never in my wildest nerd child fantasies - back when super mario bros. 3 seemed like the most mind-blowing thing ever produced by human hands - could i have imagined that technology like this would one day be powering my video games.

some of the clips are not for gaming. In other words, they need to be simulated first (can take up to 20 hours) THEN rendered out (take up to 10 hours). FumeFX and real flow for example....but other than that a lot of this is for gaming ;)
rickkmurray 9 months ago 2
@rickkmurray Yeah, I noticed that too. They are not suitable for gaming ... cut scenes or movies, yeah, but not live gaming.
