I am absolutely relived & full of hope that Barack Obama may be our next President! I live in Macon, GA. I would give anything to meet Barack if anyone knows of any appearances he will be making here again? GO BARACK - WE LOVE YOU IN GEORGIA!
I had the priviledge of attending yesterday. I must say it was wonderful. I will say one thing I noticed. I expected him to sit in the back and wait. however, he attended service and sat amongst the people. That totally took me by surprise.
Well, good for Obama, but should that actually make any difference for why somebody votes for him? I don't think so. It's wrong of him to suggest that without faith (6:25) mightn't have anchors for their beliefs - especially if that means morality. I know many atheists and agnostics who are incredibly moral. Though it's true that the right shouldn't own religion, I don't think religion should be an issue for doing political good.
I don't think he meant it that way at all, and this is coming from an athiest. I'm reading his book right now and he talks about his mother. She was a secular humanist like myself who believes in bettering ourselves and society. He wasn't raised to be religious, was never taught that there is or isn't a god, or that Jesus is lord, yet he held himself to very high morals and so did his family. So I think that he probably understands that argument better than anyone.
I don't think he's trying to say (like Romney did in his "I'm a Mormon" speech) that you can't have morals without religion. He was raised by a secular humanist, like myself, and didn't adhere to any religion until his 20's. He's a great example of how a child can be raised without religion and become an upstanding citizen and hold high moral standards. So I really don't think he would ever make that argument, he would back up his mother on that one.
The Republicans have stolen "faith" and used it for war, theft, gay sex scandals and child molestations right inside of Homeland security too! So it's hard to talk religion when they have done what they have done with it. It's like them calling everyone a liberal after years of attacks on libs. if you are a republican and don't agree with them they call you a lib. They look more like a cult than anything.
Kennedy endorsement could carry substantial clout with Massachusetts voters. And Mr. Obama has the backing of the state's other senator, John Kerry, as well as Gov. Deval Patrick.
Well, Im glad he talks about church like a regular person and not like a devout moonbat. I don't know how any of this will excite atheists and people of other religions. But everyone running for president is christian, so I don't think it matter how christian you are. Obama seems to be a typical modern born-again christian, not one of those loony moonbats like Huckabee.
Oh, I think Huckabee is a born again Christian, only he makes policies based on his faith accordingly. Politics is a messy thing for God to be entangled in. Both sides (liberals, conservatives or what have you) have true Christians. Society just places a conviction that in order to be Christian you must be Conservative.
That is a moving story that touches the soul and if you cannot relate with this story then I have doubts you know what it is to be the good Samiritan and to help those that need our help. Let Barack help America now in its time of great need. Vote OBAMA
Well, that's a nice story, but not one that provides me with the kind of information I need in the voting booth. A candidates' religion (or lack of it) is his or her own business, not mine. What is your plan for global warming and how do you plan to hold the Bush administration accountable for warrantless wiretapping of innocent Americans?
Among the major Super Tuesday contests, Mrs. Clinton has wide -- in some cases double-digit -- polling leads in California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Arizona, Missouri and Alabama. Mr. Obama leads in his home state of Illinois and in Georgia. -----WSJ,January 28, 2008; Page A1
President Obama is by far the most inspiring speaker I have ever listened to. I never get tired listening to him. He is the type of President that can tap into the potential of being better citizens. He is simply unbelievable.
IAmDanCummings: "Democrat who is not afraid of faith"? That is an odd comment. The majority of my very large family are Christians and I think most all of them are Democrats. Senator Obama like MLK junior does not just talk but walks in faith, which is why he is such a good person.
I am more excited about this election than any other..the fact that Obama is about to make not only black history but American history is amazing. Just the thought brings tears to my eyes. I thank God for you Obama. OBAMA 08!! Can't wait until next Tuesday Feb 5th.
wow, this is great to hear his personal story of becoming a Christian. It's nice to see a Democrat who is not afraid of faith and religion. It's also nice to know that the Religious Right's monopoly on Christian/value voters is over, so maybe we'll see some Christians (yes, even Evangelicals) supporting a non-Rebublican this time.
IAmDan, Agree w/you to a degree but also have to agree w/ alyce re: your comment. Many of us choose to not wear religion on our sleeve & respect others' right to believe the Truth in their own way. The religious right's caused schism by preaching that we must act, think & vote "their" way or else we're not Christian. Jesus suffered to heal the world from this sin. It's time for us all to follow his great commandment.

Would it really matter if he were muslim?
To me,no.But of course I'm too young to be ignorent enough to think it matters.
Obama is on my list of candidates for choosing.Even though I'm too young to vote...
But still,I see a bright furure for america if he becomes president.

Faith is the anchor for beliefs just as moral philosophy is anchor for morality.
They are the same. Both are the convictions for conducting oneself according to principle instead of expediency.

It's a pity that all American politicians fell they have to "do God" in order to gain acceptance from the population.

Best of luck, Barack. Don't be afraid of your religion. You can tell your personal story and don't let the right wing own religion. Go Obama!
