Thank you for posting the videl. My westie has it too which happened 3 weeks ago. She was on medication for her itchy skin for 4 days then she shake her head and was unable to stand up. she went to icu for 5 days and took mri. Everything is normal. Doctors put her on prednisone and anticonvulsant for 2 weeks.. She now is normal but the syndrome came back when she got excited. Is you dog too?
my baby has been on prednisone pretty much since this incident. as soon as she got off, she started to shake. 3 years later, we do a pill every other day (low dose) and she's happy as a clam. When she gets really excited, you can see it, still there. Hope yours does better, but remember, life can be really good despite this.
Thank you for your reply. I am realy appreciated your info. Emma, my westie, went back on Prednisone 4 days ago again. Her Shaker Syndrome came back after a-14- day treatment. Now she is back to normal as well as her itchy skin is gone. Does your baby have itcy skin?
she has a lot of allergies, so yeah, she gets itchy skin. I control the diet so that it doesn't bother her, and she's just fine. Glad to hear yours is back to normal. Sorry you had to go back on the prednisone, but at least it's tolerable for everybody involved. Beats suffering.
Have been reading about the leptospirosis vaccine...I am wondering if the Shaker is related somehow to vaccines. Our Westie has not had any recurring tremor after the first time but it is now time for shots again and I am debating about taking him for Lepto. Any ideas regarding this?
Our 2 year old Maltese x Shihtzu has just started showing symptoms. Still waiting on blood workup to make sure it's not something else... will definitely be asking the vet about Prednisone, she doesn't seem to know much about the condition.
Our 3 year old Westie started shaking last week (much like the video, only in waves). Thanks to this info and some other websites I had him diagnosed immediately. He has been on prednisone for 5 days and is doing remarkably better. The shaking seemed to get less and less, not subsiding altogether yet.
sorry to hear about your Westie. It's very hard to watch them go through this. It takes time for the Prednisone to really kick in, so give it time. Good health to you and your boy.
My little Maltese is recovering from this syndrome but she was shaking much more violently - walking into walls, could not drink water - a couple of days on Prednisone and valium and she recovered. She is still being treated. I hope it doesn't come back.
If your dog is having bouts of shaking, it's probably not this, but I'm not a vet. I'd take her to the vet and see what the vet has to say. There might be easy ways of treating it. If it's only once or twice a year and it doesn't last for hours on end or days on end, no treatment may be necessary. Good luck with your dog. I hate seeing them suffer.
I initially thought some strange form of epilepsy. Then it just continued, so I was thinking some form of doggy Parkinsons or something. Maggie is under 4 years old, so I was very concerned. The vet took one look and knew it was white shaker. The thing is, she doesn't stop. It takes a few days for the meds to kick in and the shaking doesn't suddenly stop, it just gets less and less noticeable until it's gone. No event precedes it. She just starts shaking and the shaking just keeps going.
Thankyou for posting this, Brandy has just had an episode that looked like an epileptic siezure, being Maltese I think it is possible he has White Shaker, but am unsure, I don't want to have to medicate him, as he doesn't do it very often at all maybe twice a year if that, he is nearly 5 years old.
My little three year old dog was just diagnosed and is now on medication. I had never heard of this before. I hope your dog and mine get better.
