he's my greatest point guard aside from Nash. Such humble player and a nice person off the court. He's like Nash who does clean defense without hurting anyone nor taking advantage. Hats off to this guy. Stockton to Malone the ever...
I respect this guy because he handed out more assists and got more steals than any other pleyer in NBA history. You can't ever take that away from him. It's a shame him and Karl never won a ring. They never could break through that barrier that was the Chicago Bulls.
I loved the music choice for these highlights! I didn't want this video to end.John will always be my most favorite player of all time.I am originally from Salt Lake City.Hotrod hundley called the games and he even made the games more exciting to watch with his play by play calls.John Stockton was the best on and off the court.
i think the closest Stockton we have today is Steve Nash and after he retires.... CP3 today's PG are either too score heavy (rose, westbrook) or more assist orientated (rondo).... Nash, CP3, and Stockton is the perfect balance of scoring and assisting
Stockton was alot like Magic Johnson, If those guys had been thieves they were so smooth they could run past you and leave you standing there in your underwear and shoes before you even realized your clothes were gone.
everyone always forgets pete maravich when they talk about best point guards. I mea. cmon, pistol averaged 44.2 a game WITHOUT a 3 line. today it woulda been 57 a game
@Wetradersaccountable Since when does it always matter in points? He gave Malone his placement as 2nd in the NBA in scoring behind Abdul-Jabbar. Do you see those points now? All those assists surprisingly mean something.
Not hating on Stockton, but all of todays top guards have better moves and do everything each week what Stockton has done in this video. Also, Stockton's jumper is ugly and wimpy and if not for Malone, Stockton would be nobody today
@MisterClownPrince You know nothing about basketball... sure he doesn't have the flashiness of D-Rose or Russ Westbrook, but he was and is the best competitor to ever play he made all of his teammates better, and resembles everything a point guard should be.
@IkeBennett401 And speaking of Westbrook, he makes more bad decisions in one half sometimes than Stockton would make in a week or two. Although, RW is a beast and he competes and clearly wants to win but if he had Stockton's floor game he'd be on the express line to the HOF
@Gr33d50 I guess you're right....How good do you have to be to be a career 50% and higher FG shooter as a 6'1 player in the best league on the planet. Oh and lead in assists 6 or 7 years in a row I'm guessing. I suppose he was just lucky..
Among the best players to play the pg POSITION, we all know that belongs to Magic. But among true PGs, Stockton was peerless. Magic was more of an awesome 3 player than a 1.
@TheReecemack You have some stuff to learn, all three are great players and are hall of fame potential they're not on Stocktons level yet. You can say that ignorant stuff when any of them average a DOUBLE DOUBLE for their CAREER, if any are the ALL TIME LEADER in STEALS and ASSISTS, 10x ALL STAR selections, 2x DREAM TEAM member (when it meant something), FIRST BALLOT HALL OF FAMER, and a MEMBER OF THE 50 GREATEST PLAYERS IN THE HISTORY OF THE NBA. Shall I continue? Nope.Nuff said.
@APviKINGsz28 If Chris Paul didn't hurt his knees he would have been on his way of becoming better. He was averaging 22 and 11 at his best. But Rondo and Rose aren't close to Stockton.
why do i have the feeling that there are so many potentials on this world but ehy are being overlooked? all i see today in the nba is the highflying blacks and some high white man that barely know the basics of basketball. fundamentals are being depressed in todays basketball.
Stockton was like the boxer that never put a guy on the canvas but by the end of the fight your eye was ripped to shred's, your ribs were on fire everytime you moved and you knew you lost the fight.
@TheRorybreaker Hell yes. Well put. His steal at 3:11 embodies everything you just said. He's the feistiest player to ever play the game. Didn't even get a starting role till he was like 24...
@TheRorybreaker Stockton could knock you out. He was Isiah with less fastbreak speed and one on one ability but more physical and defensive! Instead of young PGs playing as they should- they simply try to have Isiah like flair without hard competitive instincts. If they can't appreciate Stockton- then forget about it. Will see Rose can hold as Isiah, lucky if goes the distance of Stockton's career.
Not the most exciting point guard nor the fastest, but no PG was more fundamentally sound. All-time assists and steals leader, great shooter....I'd rate him 2-4 in all-time PGs ever. I'd only put Magic clearly as #1 because of the size, athleticism, and championships. Isiah, Stockton, and the Big O could all easily take the 2-4 spots.

Never got the designation of "pure" point guard. It seemed like something to help recognize Stockton at the expense of Magic, who was every bit a pass 1st point. I doubt those who created that label were aware of that. That said, Stockton was still great. I think maybe the better label is "pass-first PG".
This guy is crazy good! He doesnt do any fancy dribbling or behind-the-back passes, he's just a fundamental player! John Stockton is easily the best Pg to ever touch the court. :D

@noelh98 Are you implying that there aren't a whole slew of pass-first point guards in the game today? Steve Nash, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Jason Kidd. Who are you referring to? Russel Westbrook and Derek Rose? Who else?
maybe i misspoke, i prefer a point guard that shoots 9-11 shots a game so by that standard there arent any pass first point guards around anymore. For instance all of the guys you mentioned are (looking at their career averages) taking more shots per game then stock, and not only are they taking more shots they're also hitting at a lesser percentage. Stockton shot 50%+ 12x's Kidd never Nash 6x Paul Williams once each. Also Stock averaged 10+ assists for 10 years straight.
@noelh98 Well, OK, yes, no one is AS pass oriented as John Stockton. But if you watch the guys I mentioned play, they are clearly pass-first. It's just that they are also potent scorers. I get your drift though. Stockton is the best point guard of all time... at the very least, he's better than anyone that has played after him.
@tpstrat14 Yea even when i think about stocks contemporaries, Terry Porter, Gary Payton, Kevin Johnson were all taking more shots then Stockton too so its not just a time thing for PG's. i guess in general i don't like a lot of points coming from the PG slot
@SOCRATES012 no point in talking anymore lol i now i know your in denial sine you couldnt even watch the video i sent... plus that really makes you look lame go to a kobe video talking about how great kobe is and how bad you think lebron is... no reason to put that on a stockton video that has nothing to do with either of them...

maybe i misspoke, i prefer a point guard that shoots 9-11 shots a game so by that standard there arent any pass first point guards around anymore.

My all time team is Olajuwon/Garnett/Lebron/Jordan/Stockton. Stockton had an AMAZING career!
