Classic Channel 5 screwup at 2:37 as the 'News Headline' template or whatever appears over the end of the commercial. I remember that kind of thing happened pretty much constantly.
@jerkylfish No doubt. This whole commercial block is full of mistakes with slides and keyed items from start to finish.I am thinking a local United airfare deal would have probably been put over the end of that ad (as they used to do) but we got some News Headlines instead.
"The Night That Panicked America"? We didn't need a MOVIE to scare people out of their seats on this night, quipped WNEW! Let's screw up a few graphics and call it THE NIGHT THAT PANICKED NEW YORK TV VIEWERS!!!!!
Ok I think I like this clip a little too much! Channel 5 sure got into the Halloween spirit during these ads, mistakes be damned!!!
Looking at this video again, and all the missteps happening over the span of just a couple of hours on the evening of 10/31/1982, I think the regular WNEW master control guy was at a Halloween party or something, his replacement would have probably scared me with all the weird mistakes when I was 4 years old on that day! But then again, I was probably trick or treating ;)
After reviewing this video again, My thought is the "A&S" slide was played too early on the Soft Heat commercial, and that's why we got the Happy Halloween at the end there...
@wmbrown6 Yeah I was wondering that too and I saw heine71 posted that earlier... that McDonalds ad was much earlier than 83, and just everything in general about this video, but the WNEW graphics used in 82 lasted until the 40 year makeover in 84....
Another misstep at the end! BOO! No Magnavox TVs at A & S for you! Happy Halloween!!!! And Ed Ladd saying the Susskind show is on at Midnight when the graphic says 11:30!
"Big Apple Movie" was the Sunday evening umbrella (apparently replacing their previous Sunday evening skein, "Weekend Playhouse," which until the early 1970's was "Sunday Playhouse"). I'm curious as to from which music library the piece that was "Big Apple Movie's" theme originated, as I also heard it on another TV ad some years back.
Worth it to see the Big Apple Movie bumper again! As happy as I may be, it was always a sad reminder to me that my weekend was almost over when that was on Sundays at 5PM, and back to school the next day :(
I too miss my White Castles, their southern "counterpart" Krystal is no substitute!!!!
I'm guessing United Airlines was a "News Headline" at the time! The better level of service that you would be able to get back in '83 would sure make news today! Nice capture of a rare WNEW misstep Tap!
@DanZero77 - I think the "Happy Halloween" slide at the end was another mishap on WNEW's part, given what Tom Gregory was announcing. And also glad to hear Ed Ladd on the David Susskind promo.
Apparently, all telecine at WNEW in those days was handled out of Secaucus, NJ (where parent Metromedia had corporate headquarters then) for tax purposes.

And with the Happy Halloween slide and the 31st falling on a Sunday in 1982, when the Big Apple Movie was showed, this break is from 10/31/1982.
Thank you, I'm done. *shuffles off*

Ok, this was from 1982, the Renault Alliance was introduced as a 1983 model in 1982. I see Tap changed the date already, good man :)

@gothsoul82 Big Apple movie played on Sunday evenings at 5PM. As for actual date, I'm guessing either October 16/23/30, 1983.

@wmbrown6 Ah cool ok, that would explain the few missteps that occured in nearly the same period of time, being this movie presentation.
