@PlaystationTREY not really...modern hard drives don't get too hot nowadays anyways... adding an SSD will not really help with overheating problems.. to fix overheating problems, you need to blow out all the dust and apply new thermal paste every few years..
I have no idea wtf was going on in this video for the first couple of minutes. Why can't people just put out a "how to" video and leave all the effects out? NEXT!
Im sure the main gain from the swap is heat and noise. Its an excellent idea but Im sure load times are only decreased by seconds. Maybe the next console will be better suited for them. Sony had a great idea using swapable HDDs.
@Mahaney82 agreed. Basically the only benefit of an ssd in my ps3 so far is PlayStation home with faster loading times, and higher reliability.. but like you said, i only shredded a few seconds if lucky on games.
@CharlietoKind You think the faster SSD drives would make a difference in speed over a standard SSD? I know it wouldnt be worth the money. Like I said, maybe the next console with utilize the advantages of SSDs better.
@CharlietoKind If you buy a game like Skyrim, then you will see the benefit of your own ssd, the amount of files being loaded in large open world games (especially bethesda games like fallout or skyrim) fill the ram and so the ps3 used the hdd to load them, causing extremely irritating lag, i'll be getting an ssd soon for this reason
@Atomcitypasi , should do, as far as I know, any ssd maybe compatible with the ps3, as long as it's a notebook/laptop size "2.5" SATA1 OR SATA2 drive not sure about SATA3, research it a little further.
Hey I was wondering did you notice any kind of increase in loading times when playing your game from the hard drive(For instance; you install Modern Warfare 2 to the SSD, then play from the hard drive)? Decreased load times? Less lag perhaps? This is a really easy and awesome tweak. No wonder so many people were hacking with PS3 lol.
@chaosflar3 lol.... only slightly faster for games, only a few seconds, and installing things, the biggest change is in playstation home lol.., the reason i upgraded was because i had a original 60 gig ps3 and i was like, hmm, lol, so i went ahead and installed an 80 gig ssd, its not that hard, its just like changing a lightbulb really...
you spent all that money on SSD drives and you cant even afford a screwdriver you retard!
Changing a PS3 drive can be done easily if you read the manual, but then again if you had actually read it you would have seen the part where it says USE A SCREWDRIVER!
i plan on getting an ssd but i was wondering would 60gb be enough. i plan to download demos and a few hd episodes and i know sometimes that patches for games take up space
this is great if you have overheating problems, this SSD does not even get warm right?

wait what all do you have to do before you can install it into the PS3 and also what type of ssd is needed?
Dantakurasaki 1 year ago
@Dantakurasaki a standard 2.5 inch ssd, a hdd will work also, but all you need is a phillips screw driver.
CharlietoKind 1 year ago
@CharlietoKind I mean what Sata form does it have to be Sata 2 Sata 3 like that
Dantakurasaki 1 year ago
@Dantakurasaki technically you'd Back-Up all your files, on to an External HDD or a Flashdrive.
blueguy09 9 months ago
what did you do concerning formatting before you could just install the SSD?
