Respectfully, I understand people frustrated at America's mediocrity in the world. Near the bottom of the health care and environment in the civilized world, middle bottom on education, a military that is close to self destructing. Name a civilized country the size of the U.S. that has as good a life expectancy. Europe is composed of so many small countries, of course you'll have highs but also lows. The state of Hawaii has the 2nd highest life expectancy in the world.

The problem with education, is that we just throw money at the problem instead of changing policy. The military is still light years ahead of any other country. You talk about America being mediocre, then you ask it to save the world.

(if you take a stats class, you will learn that you normally factor in 5% for error) Out of all of those countries you named, only Canada is comparable to the US in size. And even then, that's only using size for a comparison. We also lead the world in obesity and that is not the fault of the healthcare system. Its personal choices.

@rysw19 I went to school in a rural school district. Trust me, funding is not the issue. You can learn more with a library card than you can in a school. I also know some people that work in the school system. Teacher's don't really even have to try after they get tenure. Originally, the school system was suppose to focus around teaching the skill of learning, improving intelligence, and teaching general concepts. Now, its about memorizing useless facts. This also makes it easier to cheat.

Kids get so caught up in the next video game, TV show, or movie that they lose focus in school. Most adults today babysit with the TV. Maybe you'll find the exception, but if you ask enough you'll find the exception is the book reader.

Further, US troops currently defend around 140 countries. The US rebuilt German, Japan, South Korea, and is in the process in Iraq and Afghanistan. It also built Israel. The US gives more money to foreign nations than any other country in the world. It seems like when the UN tries to do something, its 90% US and 10% the world. Maybe if we would get more than a 10% effort from the rest of the world, we could fix some global problems. Go ask China for help, they are really charitable. LOL!
