Unlike other USAF demos, there is an always an official Air Force officer that closely monitors every F-22 performance.

I know there is no answer to this but I would love to know what F-22 maneuvers are on the forbidden list.

I suppose the Raptor can do a double or tripple power loop. Or rmabey a super small radius 360 turn! I would love to hear about a Raptor going into a near hover at 40 or 50,000 feet and fire off a missile of some kind. We'll see I guess!

glad that thing is our side , seen a vid they put 10 of the best pilots and the best fighters to date agenst 1 f-22 and all 10 were dead before they even seen the raptor on radar

Your all wrong concorde can go more than mach 2 sr-71 connot reach mach 3 maybe 2.5 but not 3 you need a hella of not of thrust to get you to mach 3 m8. the f-22 raptor can reach max speed not even at full afterburner. the sr-71 reaches just above 2000mph concorde above 2000mph infact2500mph both that makes 2.5mach. In the future we may even reach up to mach 7 lolz.

mach 3 is a little over 2200mph mate, mach 1 is 761mph, the speed of sound.

the sr-71 did a sustained flight of a little under 2200mph which is almost mach3 and is stated to have reached mach 3.2 top speed.

mach 2.5 is roughly 1850mph.

2500mph is roughly mach 3.4.

On it's engines alone, the F-22 could reach some eye opening speeds. The engine intake would not allow this though so top speed according to Metz and other test pilots place it around Mach 2.4

Earl, now they say 1.78 on supercruise, acm above 65,000 and there's air intake restrictions?? It out accelerates/climbs a 15 and the top end is only 2.4 ? yeah right, and a nimitz class carrier does 30 knots. The only restriction on speed is damage to the "radar absorbing material". 37,800 per will get you here to there pretty quick. only significantly faster platform the in think is the su-35, that'll get em killed faster is all.

True top speed, not considering design/RAM limitaions I'd guess is about mach 2.5-6. Paul Metz claimed he got up to 2.4 in testing.

It may be faster than that! The Raptor is nearly 1,000 Ibs. lighter than the F-15 with over 14,000Ibs. of thrust per engine! I think the Strike Eagle's records will be comming down soon. If it hasn't already!!!

what are you referring to as AF? I'll assume you're referring to augmented thrust. The SR-71 was designed to cruise in burner, for your information. Therefore it's a valid comparison. The SR-71 features a greater range in burner than without. How, you ask? Because the altitudes and speeds it flies with it on are unnattainable without. SR-71s don't just make fast dashes at mach 3, that's normal ops.

SR-71 has special engines designed to cruise at mach 3+. at lower speeds they operate as turbofan engines just like the figter engines, but at mach 3 they start to operate as ramjet engines.

neither the concorde or sr-71 could do it at 200 ft, in mountainous valleys. only at high altitude straight and level.. you missed the point of my comment from 9 months ago. the f22's cruise at M1.5 is "without" afterburners... That is 75% power cruise... Like a cessna cruises at 110kts... No AF and no full throttle.. Hence, why is is called "super cruise".

SR-71 has ramjet engines. so they are not regular afterburners and are fuel efficient.

@ilkkavu concorde has the huge olympus engines the same as the avro vulcan. F-22 has the 2 pratt and whitney f119 engines but still not as noisly as the good old concorde lol

Roger that. Amazing. It does whatever the pilot wants. I saw the thing actually HOVER in place at just past 2:00, like a rotor AC! What incredible control! It darts all over the sky like a mosquito instead of a multi-ton piece of titanium. It was making drastic maneuvers look effortless, and I almost believe it could match the incredibly nimble Fokker Triplane, the Dr. I, in a dogfight!

I worked at the show this year and was fortunate enough to see this display up nice and close. My jaw was on the floor throughout. All I said after this display was "F*** me that aircraft is awesome". The Raptor was the undoubtedly the hightlight of Farnborough 2008, which is saying something given that the Avro Vulcan was there too!

This plane has so much excess power it seems to go anywhere in the sky without having to level off to gain speed. It has it's own built in momentum, it's called 74,000lbs+ of thrust!
