  • nice. dumb question though, from someone who knows nothing about model rocketry... do you have to get some kind of permission to launch a rocket that big to 14000 feet? Or is this in a designated spot where you know there'll be no air traffic?

  • You need FAA clearance for large rockets because they can interfere with airplanes. You usually get an hour of time to launch.

  • To launch a rocket this large, you need to have some level of high-power certification from either the NAR or Tripoli. You also need an FAA waiver to fly it. I'd recommend attending an established launch, which will probably already have a waiver in place, so you don't have to go through lots of paperwork.

  • How long between the first stage burning out and the second stage igniting?
