Do ya mean like The Roxy then & now?I was at The Roxy 12/12/08 ZPZ is alive and still freaking us out and we are loving it!Oh to clarify,if FZ played n.cal.I was there!PEACE LOVE BELLS BEADS N FRANK ZAPPA!!HAPPY B-DAY FRANK!
flo and eddie wanted to get out of the one-sided record company contract they signed while they were with the Turtles, so they parked for awhile with Frank; however, Frank didn't pay alot and was stingy w/ royalties, so Flo and Eddie eventually left to pursue a gig as radio dee-jays
Don't know the drummer but Frank put Essra Mohawk (wrote Cyndi Lauper's CHANGE OF HEART) in his band as 1st female. He named her "Uncle Meat" & she was just a kid. Soon afterwards, her classic "Primordial Lovers" lp on reprise was released in 1970 & named "1 of 25 best albums of all time by Rolling Stone."
Of course Zappa didn't do drugs, why the fuck would anyone with a mind like his need to? ( a serious percentage of drug users are very dull and unimaginative people...)
whoa, the last song they perform is from an early, unreleased edit of We're only in it for the money. maybe even from out man in nirvana. you can here the beginning of it in Are You Hung Up slowed down an octave. I believe the song is called "In Memorium, Hieronymus Bosch"
yeah that's right, but the version on the early money edit is in fact from the same performance, whoever put that edit together just tagged it on. i don't think they ever recorded it in the studio, it's just a jam really isn't it... with all the crazy sound collage tapes in the background, bit like the lumpy gravy stuff.
seriously though... what a talented bunch of guys, zappa is my favourite musician ever, period.
Yes, thank you. Billy on drums! and J.C. fronting! I shared a bus ride with them to Woodstock, NY when I was about 13 and B.M. was about the nicest guy in the world to a star struck kid who loved the Mothers. Most of the band were at Father Francis' church on Easter Sunday I kid you not
Amazing video. Around the time of the Garrick run? I see Ian Underwood, Bunk Gardner, Don Preston, Roy Estrada, Motorhead on the toilet plunger. Freak Out.
yep. this was in the Garrick, I think around November or December 1967. This is one of their most legendary gigs, because of their amazing interaction with the crowd and musical improvisation
pd zapnut, you have no idea how much i agree with you. And its not just rock its all the other genres too. They all have gone wussy style and everything is pop, theres no such thing as a album any more its just singles available for download. I grew up in the 90s and really embraced the grunge culture but thats flushed down the toilet these days. O well thats why i dont listen to the radio and mtv
why aren't there bands like this anymore? you ever hear the same sounding unoriginal bands of today? they allll suck!!!!!! same look, same sound. same gimmicks.
my rockin' teenage combo School for Robots is covering a Zappa song on this very stage, Saturday April 26, at 8pm, if you're around and want to hear a faithful rendition of Zomby Woof, come to the Bitter End tomorrow!

i think they would have freaked a lot of people out in 1967, especially in a tiny club.

What was the connection between Zappa and the Turtles?Anybody know???
CJurasin 3 years ago
Flo and Eddie sung in his group during the early 70s.
TLauncher 3 years ago
Wow.....but what brought them together?? The Turtles put out some good music in their day, so why would they have hooked up with Zappa?
CJurasin 3 years ago
Wasn't Howard Kaylan (Eddie) a relative of Frank's business manager, Herb Cohen?

Who is the drummer!?!?
imarobot7 3 years ago
Bill "The Oozer" Mundi was the guy sitting on the drums. The other drummer(going "Yeah Yeah Yeah!") was Jimmy Carl Black.

Hell yes!!! I've always wondered what zappa would've thought of those guys. Zappa and animal collective are my favorite musicians, no doubt.

Yes, its Mundi. He played with the Mothers in 1966-68. Not on many albums tho.

Wonder if Mundi regrets leaving Zappa to join the band Rhincerous, which was kind of successful for about eight months.
