  • Hey Eric, after about 5 tries, I got the video paused at the picture and it took me a second but once I got it, I laughed. i'll bet your not the only one that has done that.

  • @13FravelJ It's easier with editing software. :)

  • Hey Eric,

I love these videos and you are reaching your goal of helping people! Believe it or not you are helping us fix cars here in Rwanda. Thanks and keep up the GREAT work you are doing.

  • @gbmmben Very cool. My brother is heading to Tanzania in 2 weeks to help a small community there, he usually goes once a year. Thanks for the comment.

  • Hi, Eric, I know i can get help from You about car problem fixes. I have a problem with my 1994 Honda Civic EG hatchback. I changed a new rear glass wiper motor and at once faced a MUCH bigger problem - power windows, front window wipers, sunroof, window wash sprays ALL are gone. during changing rear wiper motor i touched +with - wires but just for milisecond. All fuses a good, no wires are burned. What is the problem? I am in big trouble if i dont fix it in a week ! =O =( please help

  • @Mazis22 Honestly I don't know especially if you checked ALL the fuses and didn't find any bad ones, it may be a control unit or something but your going to need a wiring diagram and some testing to find out. Next time don't leave the key on while you work as that circuit would not have been hot if the key was off. Good luck.

  • i enjoy every video you make and i find them very helpfull, thanks alot for taking the time to help people like me :)

  • @PrimeVenom Your most welcome, thanks very much for your comment.

  • Eric where you a Honda tech at a dealer ? Why dont you go back ? There's nothingbut nobs coming through the doors nowadays and you know your shit

  • @MrBawston I'm actually an Acura master tech. I'm not going back for a number of reasons but at the top of the list is that I like being EricTheCarGuy more than working for a dealer.

  • very good, you come a long way pilgrim

  • @hp11208 Don't I know it, still not quite there yet though. Workin on it.

  • EricTheCarGuy : I agree I have been working in the garage professionally for 15 plus years.By no means do I know everything you don't do everything rite but neither do I thats the reason I watch these videos learn easier ways cause sometimes its easier to learn from others mistakes. Then sometimes you learn you,ve been doing it the hard or wrong way. This is what I miss about working in a garage with other techs.Keep it up.

  • @freeclimber28 Me too, I subscribe to the same philosophy. I miss the some of guys I use to work with but not working in the business. Thanks for the great comment.

  • u can take some shit working in garages i no what u mean

  • @scottaner500 Yea but I've come to find thats the same for just about anything you do for money.

  • @EricTheCarGuy

hey for the valve adjustment video, do the way the book do and with ur lob on the cam thing and u get best result. book said turn the crankshaft so that the up arrow is at 12, then at 9 , then at 6 then at 3. etc. very useful and more accurate but ur lobe is nice detail

  • @ydchopstick Thanks for your suggestions.

  • hey there,

    just found your channel

year and a half unemployed here, living in my garage slowly learning mechanics

all I can say is, don't give up, your videos are awesome and I totally just hit that subscribe button

  • @shodanxx Thanks for the sub! As for your unemployment I hope either you find a job soon or get more mechanical work to help pay the bills. Good luck and thanks for the comment.

  • 1:14 wow ;)

  • DUDE I FREAKIN LOVE YOU!

  • hi eric, you dont need orthers for employment your too clever that, great videos keep them coming

  • @2010petrolhead Well so far it's been 2 years to the day since I had a "real job", I couldn't be happier, my life has done nothing but improve since then. Thanks for the comment.

  • hi eric

i also saw my job go done the toilet, due whatever you want to call what happened during the last few years! 25years in building trade, and no chance it ever recovering any time soon.

so i'm retraining, and your vids are a great, help keep it up

  • @Mr71paul71 Sorry to hear about your job, that sucks. I'm happy to hear that I'm helping you get back on your feet as that is now MY new job and this kind of feedback makes all the difference for me. I wish you all the best. Thank you very much for taking the time to share and comment.

  • Hey Eric, a man of your skill and (dare I say it) charisma, does not need to depend on others for employment.

  • @sirjimis Thank you for saying that. I have to admit that what I went through was hard but ETCG has helped a lot of people through difficult times and I'm more proud of that than my most recent job working as a technician. Thanks again for the great comment.

  • eric the car guys is the best helped me alot

  • Glad I could help. Thanks for the comment it means a lot.

  • I like your videos. You are really down to earth and easy to relate to. I'll tell my friends about you.

  • @zuksammy I appreciate that very much, thank you.

  • I really enjoy your videos. Very informative. If you have an opertunity to post a video replacing a timing belt and water pump on a Accord that would be great as I have that job coming soon. For sure I'll be spreading the word. Big fan in Canada!. Keep up the great work. I have no dought your site will sky rocket.

  • @peelman1506 As a matter of fact I'm working on that video right now. It won't be posted to YT however, it's about 2.5 hours long at it's current edit. Instead it will be available from the ETCG website in the very near future. I'll be posting a "trailer" for it when it is available. Thanks for the comment.

  • I have just subscribed to your site , think it is great wish there was sites like this for all DIY jobs. I have just started servicing my car and your videos will be of great help, your are the man, keep it real....

  • Thank you for saying that, stay tuned, I plan to make things even easier for you in the future.

  • hey, it's great how u bounced back & now u r your own boss. stay dirtee!

  • Yes, there does seem to be a silver lining after all. It's funny how I feel more appreciated now than I ever did working as a mechanic, I even think I've helped more people in a shorter amount of time. I suppose I'm right where I'm suppose to be. Thanks for the comment.

  • I like your videos. I started with cars the same way. I enjoy seeing how people attack a problem with a car issue. Good show and good line "Stay Dirty" I do every weeknd.

  • I like this comment, thanks.

  • Eric, ur help is greatly appreciated.Thank you again.and about helping u with subscribers, most diff. i'll try to get as much peeps as i can to subscribe you ERICTHECARGUY.i truly feel that ur one of the best as far as explaining or showing how to acomplish something, very detail and thats how peep are able to learn.step by step innstructions. i appreciate ur help truly.

  • That's a great idea but I'm happy to give something for your money like useful information.

  • You have my full support, learning allot of neat tricks by watching your show! Step on the gas! :D

  • Thanks for that comment. I working on making more videos all the time.

  • Thank you Eric, its been more then a dozen years since I worked at a Ford dealership and totaly forgot what the math was.

  • For example: the 2010 Ford mustang GT-500 has a 5.4L engine that can put out 540HP. What would the C/I be on an engine that size?

  • 5.4L is somewhere near 351CID.

  • Good morning Eric, I was just curious as to what the conversion formula is to go from cubic inch to liters or visa versa?

  • 1 liters = 61.0237441 cubic inches

  • thanks for the help.

    best of luck!!!!

  • Thank you for the comment.

  • Hummmmm that's weard, my question from earlyer disappeared.

  • Wadn me.

  • I came across your YouTube channel yesterday and was so happy I did, you have a lot of very useful information in your videos, and i spent a good hour or so watching your videos yesterday. Keep it up, we got to learn somewhere and you passing on your knowledge really helps a lot. Thanks for going into detail and making things easier to understand in your videos.

    Take Care

PS. I subscribed right away :)

  • I appreciate the comment and the subscription very much, thank you.

  • Amen Brotha'!

  • good job amigo

    lets help each other

    take care

  • I like the sound of that. Be well.

  • Does the 90 accord lx (manual transmission) have a hydraulic clutch? If yes, does the hydraulic clutch use brake fluid?

  • What tool is used for measuring rocker arm lash? This might be a stupid question but I am confused between valve lash and rocker arm lash.

  • Your checking valve lash and on Honda's you are also checking the rocker arm clearance at the same time.

  • Is a dial indicator used for measuring rocker arm bore concentricity or out-of-round?

  • I don't know.

  • If the oxygen sensor voltage is high, and the PCM is commanding increase injector pulse width, and you smell fuel, what is the most likely cause?

    a. open engine coolant temperature sensor

    b. contaminated oxygen sensor

    c. bad PCM

    d. malfunctioning fuel pressure regulator

  • On a cold and damp morning, the car has hard start and rough idle. What is the most likely cause?

    a. bad ignition wires

    b. bad coil

    c. bad engine coolant temperature sensor

    d. other

  • What is the first thing you should do if you hear hydraulic lifter noise?

    a. Stop engine and check engine oil pressure

    b. Stop engine and check engine oil level

    c. Remove hydraulic lifters and check leak down rate.

  • Eric, I found a 1990 Accord LX (manual transmission) for sale with a bad engine.

Hey, I just happen to have a good engine sitting inside my 1990 Accord LX (automatic transmission).

Here's the question. Will my auto transmission engine fit into a manual transmission chasis?

  • It would work but you would need to swap the flywheel and the PCM.

  • I want to end up with a manual transmission vehicle. I understand the part about swaping flywheels, because the auto engine has to match the manual transmission. However, I don't understand why the PCM has to come over as well.

  • Just curious, on the 1990 Accord with automatic transmission, does it have a flexplate or flywheel?

  • whoa the kid pushing the wagon kinda creeped me out for a second. keep doin what ur doin eric. youre helping al ot of people and we are appreciative.

  • That was a tribute to my friend Readymade777. Helping people is what I set out to do so thanks for that comment.

  • Why does a flexplate have to flex?

  • Because the torque converter expands...

    Les

  • With a coil-on-plug assembly, if you measure voltage drop between the "ground terminal on the coil-on-plug assembly" and the negative terminal of the battery and you get 0.001 volts? Also there is 13.23 volts going into the coil-on-plug assemby. There is no spark. Does this mean the coil is bad?

  • The computer is going to supply the ground to fire the COP. Now ask yourself.. Why does the V6 Ranger have the platinum on the electrode on one bank and the platinum on the ground strap on the other bank. Hummm

  • bigblockmustang, maybe because it's a waste spark ignition system and one bank is fired in forward polarity and the other bank is fired in reverse polarity? But what does that have to do with my question about diagnosing a no spark on one cylinder with a C.O.P.? There is definitely battery voltage going into the COP, but the ground wire coming out of the COP reads 0.001 volts. Does this mean a bad coil?

  • @bigblockmustang The positive electrode on the spark plug gets worn, so it needs the platinum. On one bank, the positve electrode happens to be the center electrode. On the other bank, the positive electrode happens to be the "hook-like" thingy electrode.

  • If there is a knocking noise when you put the transmission in drive, what is the most likely cause?

    a. connecting rod knock

    b. tcc stuck on

    c. warped flex plate

    d. excessive clearance between cylinder wall and piston

  • Cracked flex plate or loose torque converter bolts.

  • What are the symptoms if the torque converter clutch is always on or engaged?

  • Car will stall when you pull to a stop.

  • Hmm. Just like a manual transmission vehicle would if you didn't step on the clutch when you come to a stop.

Okay, then. what are some reasons for TCC's to stay always on, and is this common?

  • Wow! Useful automotive advice with added drama!

Oh by the way, is it true that all manual transmissions have fly wheels and all automatic transmissions have flex plates.

Is there ever a situation where you would replace a flywheel with a flex plate?

  • If your converting a standard trans to an automatic I suppose.

  • Keep it up Eric. Your giving a lot of DIY guys a big favor.

  • Thanks for that comment.

  • Subscribed sometime last week. First video I watched was on drum brakes, really helpful. Then went on your channel and watched some of your other videos. Your videos are great, they make all the other auto how to videos look like shit. Keep making videos, I will be tuned in.

  • You get the award, best comment of the day, thanks.

  • What type of lifters does my 1990 Civic have?

  • It doesn't really have any lifters but it would be considered a "solid" valvetrain.

  • Is there such an adjustment as a valve bridge adjustment or is that just a made up option for a multiple choice question?

  • Not sure, never heard of it.

  • u rock dude, u helped me with my accord 93 not starting!!!

  • Glad I could help, thanks for the comment.

  • It's been a year already? Wow. Keep up the solid work. You're providing great info that many people either need or find interesting to learn. It's like a mini Discovery Channel episode with each video.

    ---

I have a similar motto at my Italian channel, still I get people complaining about one thing or another - people, the lessons are free...

  • Yea, people will complain no matter what. You know, it would be great to get a show on Discovery, perhaps then I would have enough money to come visit you and try some of that good food you make in your videos.

  • I will do my best to try and promote your videos, in fact my forum has received much help from your instruction and for that I'm sure they're greatful.

  • Awesome. Send me a link to the forum, I'd love to check it out.

  • hope you make some money like i saved some from you.

  • I hope so too. If I do I can do a lot more of these.

  • I hope you can put all things together especially the Videos (you intend to sell) most of us are waiting for. I am sure you'll be better than most because you show how it is done even to the point of having the coolant getting in your face, not just chit chat. Just stay patient and be humble all the time. The detractors will always be there to stop and discourage you. I am surprised you are really answering the questions of the subscribers and Fast response too.

  • Well you can learn just as much from mistakes as anything else. I also don't want people to think I'm perfect and know everything, truth is I'm still learning myself. I figure the more time I invest in my viewers the closer I am to my goal. Thanks for the comment.

  • are you familiar with jeeps?

  • I've got a couple of Grand Cherokees that roll through my door from time to time.

  • Eric You ROCK!!

  • No, YOU rock.

  • I am in school now taking Automotive classes..To be truthful I have learned more from you Eric then my own instructor..Peace

  • Cool comment, thanks.

  • Thanks for that comment, educating is what I set out to do and it's great it's been so well received. Thanks again.

  • Thanks for all your help.Watching your videos helped me save a lot of money.Keep up the good work and stay dirty.

  • That's what I set out to do, it's great to hear that it's worked out the way I had hoped. Thanks for the comment and your support. Stay dirty yourself.

  • Eric,

Your a Good Man. Thanks for helping me and getting the right tools for the job and the steps to do the job.

    Randy

  • Thanks for the great comment and for your support, it means a lot.

  • eric you rock can you do some work on 98 honda civic hatchbacks

  • I'd love to. For now ETGC videos are based on the cars that people bring me to be fixed. If I get one in I'll post whatever I can. Thanks for the comment.

  • Thank you Eric, your vids are very helpful and I can't wait to use some of the techniqeus later. Good Luck!!

  • Thanks for that comment, it means a lot.

  • You have helped me out a lot and I have gotten you more subs.

    Good luck!

  • I am unemployed now, and your videos have helped me several times already, I have been able to save some much needed money using your videos, we all know how much going to an auto dealer can cost, even for simple repairs. Oh and I really liked the tip on clearing your windows it really works.

    Keep up the good work,

    GREAT VIDEOS!!!!

    Big fan.

  • ETGC was created just for you and others like you. I can't tell you how much it means to read this comment and know that I was able to help in some way. I hope you find work soon, if not, I'll do my best to keep you mobile.

  • I think everyone has gone though some shit at work at one time or another. I lost a really great job working for an airline out of Detroit, MI for almost 4 years then the attacks of 9/11 happened and then the mass layoffs started going out. Not to sound religious (cuz I'm not) when shit happens that's out of my control I resite the syrenity prayer in my head. If you know it, you know it to e true.

  • Very true. I hope things are better for you now. When that kind of thing happens you just have to let it go and move on no matter how hard it gets. ETCG is the best job I've had yet BTW, I think I'll keep it for a while. Thanks for the comment and your support.

  • THANK YOU for all your help and you got it.

  • It is very much appreciated, thanks for your support and the great comment.

  • So who is the kid with the wagon?

  • Good eye, it's my son Page on his first birthday when he got that wagon.

  • I wish you good luck in the future with your channel. You are right they may be technicians that know more than you out there but most likely they couldn't put it into words or make teaching videos as you do. You are a great teacher. Keep up the good work. Rich

  • Thanks for saying that, it means a lot to know that what I set out to do is actually helping people.

  • You are a great teacher and I love watching your videos. I was unemployed for a year, shit SUCKS!!!

  • It does suck for sure, I'm hoping to make it a little easier for those that watch however. A broken car on top of unpaid bills is a real drag. Thanks for the comment and for the support.

  • I forgot how I stumbled across one of your videos, but then I checked out your whole channel and was even more impressed by it. Not only do you post really really helpful videos, but you even answer all the questions that the viewers have! I have learnt so much from your videos, and you've helped me alot with the extra questions I had, so thank YOU very much ETGC, and I really appreciate what you've done :) !!!

  • It's comments like this that make my day. Your the best boss I've had yet, thanks for your comment and your support.

  • I have worked as an auto tech since 1977

and once got fired from a dealership because I am honest and won't sell parts

and service that aren't needed. Keep up

    the good work, great videos

  • Yea, lots of us have been shafted at one time or another. I got fired because of something someone else did, no matter, life is better now that I work for you. Thanks for the comment.

  • Man **** those guys, there's much bigger and better things out there for you. You're a Mechanical Jedi and a great teacher! It won't be long before ETCG is a house hold name.

dude you oughta make ETCG stickers?

  • Thanks for that, the best part about my life now is that I don't work for them anymore, I work for you and others like you. I hope your vision comes true, that would be a great ending to this story.

  • Eric, I truly appreciate what you bring to the youtube community. Thanks so much. Take care and best wishes for the future.

  • Thanks for that comment, it means a lot.

  • Hey man been watching your videos for awhile now.

just wanted you to know i really appreciate your videos.

Just wanted to say thanks dude.

  • Thanks for being a part of the ETCG universe and youre support.

  • I have past the word to most of my friends about you and hope they have subscribe. Like I always say keep up the great vids.

Been in your shoes more than ones.

  • Thanks for the support, I'll keep up my end by providing useful information. Thanks again.
