Just got one of these from our surplus department. Screen is beautiful. Having said that, the hard drives are dead and the keyboard does not work. It can probably fly, but I haven't found the button.

I owned this great laptop since 2007, and till 2009, 2 years of time, I had replaced video card for 2 times......Hard drive..dies 2 times... keyboard quality not satisfied, replaced 4 times, remote controller not working, replaced 4 times (problem later was found to be the signal receiving chip........crap...)
So, used for 2 ears, whole bunch problems, and this was the reason why DELL stop making it, other then high price.
The software, Creative Soundblast MB software is not for reinstall use. I paid for it, but it can only be used no more than 3 times of re-install. I re-install the whole system about 1~2 times a year to clean the system, and the creative software is not for "forever" use. WHY? Paid for over $150 and is not re-installable???? (I know this maybe Creative lab'sproblem of their product, but DELL should get a better version instead of limited vesion.)
i got this one recent;y on ebay, and ive found that its a common fault in the battery charging in the KB. i dont always get a steady blue power light on the KB, it kind of goes on for 1 minute and then goes off. i dont think it goes off because the battery is fully charged. ad theres no creidble way of knowing how much charge the KB has because the power meter always shows 100% battery power on the meter which is impossible. i guess time will tell if it IS charging or not. u got same problems ?
I know that it's heavy and bulky, but I really like its design. Dell should re-release it with Windows 7, Intel Core i7, 8 GB RAM, and a premium graphics card.

I used to own one of these monsters, but in late 2008 I got myself an Alienware M17x-R1 (original model). It's still really nice, featuring an Intel Core 2 Extreme (Dual core, not Quad but so what?). It has 8 gigs of RAM, Dual SLI 9800's (Awesome performance, High in Crysis with ease). Plus its even got BluRay. But the price was just over $5,000 and I know you can buy a better Asus nowadays for $2,000. But still it looks awesome with my flashing LEDs!
This computer is a piece of junk. I own one and it is nothing less than expensively disappointing. Beautiful yes, but like they say, Lots of show, but got no go. It reminds me of those import tuner cars. It sounds pretty cool, looks pretty cool, but if you really want to compete, you need some real muscle. For the money you have to spend to get this machine, spend a little more, get the Mac Pro or the iMac with upgraded processor and memory and really get your work done. My take - Looser!
Yes on the back of the laptop base at the both ends there are grill holes. In these slits you push a precision screwdriver in the hole and the spring loaded clip holders move back which allows you to reinstall panel be careful.
buying this machine was the biggest mistake of my life and I will never buy from Dell ever again!... I have had two motherboards replaced, an entire machine replaced, a hard drive replaced, and several video cards replaced. I am getting a new model from Dell to replace this lemon. finally the machine will not boot and Dell techie said it cannot be fixed! They are an absolute joke!
I was running win7 too. I like this laptop but I've suffered from the same issue other people have noted where the video card fails. Some other people have reported the motherboard fails prematurely... Otherwise this is a great machine- Dunno what you're talking about though- the video card is NOT upgradeable...

I purchased the HP HDX instead of this. It seems as though Dell has almost completely forgotten about this one, it takes a bit to find it on the website, and the specs are fairly outdated. There's no blu-ray option, the video card is pretty weak actually, and there is no 1080p screen res option, all of these are available with the HDX. I'm glad Dell pioneered the 20" notebook, but they sorely need to keep it up to date, or do a complete overhaul and give us something new.
There is a blu-ray option. However, in almost everything else, the HDX is more powerful (2.8 ghtz, etc.). I personally prefer the M2010 because, to me (and probably almost no one else), it looks nicer.
Does anyone know if this still comes with the Dell Premium Remote Control and Mouse?
It's listed under "Design" on the Dell webiste, but when I customized it, it is not included under "Also Included with this System".
I asked a Dell Representative in their Chat Room and she resonded that the items are not included. I might have been to broad when asking about the "Media Remote".

I see a potential flaw design... When you put the screen in the closer position you see it's right over the cd/dvd slot drive.... Can anybody confirm if it obstruct the slot opening?
It can, if you pull the monitor forward and lay it on the opening. You can have it in the 'closer position' and not be on the opening too. The monitor is very movable to a position you are comfortable viewing as you can see in the video.
I have one. I LOVE IT. I'd also love it more if anyone of you know of a laptop jacket/case for it though, to send me a link? I don't move it around much, but like that it is portable if necessary with minimum fuss.
That is the most AWESOME computer i've ever seen! It totally owns my crappy inspiron 6000, and has everything i need! That's why i'm always gonna stick with dell, and get one of these as soon as possible. Dell obviously smashes Mac into pieces of shitty plastic :D

Get an Apple iMac! This clunky big ass machine is way overpriced and way underpowered. The Apple iMac kicks the shit out of this Dell for a whole lot less and much better specs.
You can't compare a cheap toy to a working machine. Mac's are cute little toys and yet I own two. This laptop is a real work horse if you can afford it and yes I own one of them.
just some low down- this is the best gaming performance laptop notebook, dell has to offer (up to date) , its worth about 4000 australian and has around a 21.2 inch widecreen, this all equals a made laptop!

Don't know if anyone has answered you or not so I thought I would. The 2010 is a great machine if you want a portable desktop system. It starts at 18lbs. so it is not light at all. It is raid 0 or 1 capable. Some people have had keyboard issues with it but not most of the people. Over all if you want a desktop system that you can take to lan parties it is the thing you are looking for. Has a great LCD also.

Another half-ase idea. This is the perfect computer to market a 1 cord connection port, but we still have to connect every freaking cord. Fullzize keyboard is genius, but they couldn't intergrate a real mouse?
I love this computer. We got to play with one of them at work. However, in this video he says bluetooth only goes ten feet. While this is true at work we had this keyboard clear down the hall and we were also able to use it fairly effectively through walls. Personally I could just play with the touch eject button on the slot loader all day long. Great for games and lan parties.
and btw if i saw a guy walk on the street, hanging in hes hand whiout any form for bag or somthing there hiddes it !? i would steel it run fast as hell!

Did you want to try benchmarks. Maybe rip a video. Try xps m1210 or xps m1710 both will burn any mac book pro. 200gb*2 = 400gb in raid 0 at 7200 rpm. Ohh the nvidia 7900gtx with 512mb. Don.t trip apple will get it in 2009. Lmao!! or You want to try alienware with 1gb of video mem(2*7950gtx in sli) and 4gbs of ram. MuLegend this is not a desktop as we know it. There is a new word about computers like this that people have started using lately. It is a desktop replacement since it is a bit too big(20"+ screen and around 9kg) to act as a usual laptop, but it is still portable easier than a usual desktop. It's kind of a hybrid or something.
Ayyy ya!!!! It's not just a laptop. It's for office and at home, so you could bring it conviniently. It's 20 inch coz it's a desktop. I think they design that more of being a desktop than a laptop. It saves space too.

One sexy machine this is. But for a performance machine and with a 20.1" monitor like this, I would expect Dell to make it handle 1900x1600 resolutions. Not just 1680x1050.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Dell XPS range and have even own a XPS GEN2, and that has a 17" monitory but 1900x1600 resolution.

the keyboard doesnt stay on the laptop w/o support underneith it.. its just two clips and not a magnet.. although the bluetooth keyboard/mouse is a definite plus. the size of the base is about 11"x16" w/o having the keyboard attached so i dont know what the size of the airplane table is... hope that helps oh yeah and i love it.. with the graphics card, huge display, and great processor i personally believe it is worth the high price tag

barely upgradeable. (arent all notebooks?)
no hdmi out put,
no DL optic drive(just RW),
ETC. otherwise its quite the desktop replacement.
I say stick with sony's. Its about the same price range and size, plus blueray, hdmi and the like.

Get an Apple iMac! This clunky big ass machine is way overpriced and way underpowered. The Apple iMac kicks the shit out of this Dell for a whole lot less and much better specs.

You can't compare a cheap toy to a working machine. Mac's are cute little toys and yet I own two. This laptop is a real work horse if you can afford it and yes I own one of them.

just some low down- this is the best gaming performance laptop notebook, dell has to offer (up to date) , its worth about 4000 australian and has around a 21.2 inch widecreen, this all equals a made laptop!

Don't know if anyone has answered you or not so I thought I would. The 2010 is a great machine if you want a portable desktop system. It starts at 18lbs. so it is not light at all. It is raid 0 or 1 capable. Some people have had keyboard issues with it but not most of the people. Over all if you want a desktop system that you can take to lan parties it is the thing you are looking for. Has a great LCD also.

Another half-ase idea. This is the perfect computer to market a 1 cord connection port, but we still have to connect every freaking cord. Fullzize keyboard is genius, but they couldn't intergrate a real mouse?

I love this computer. We got to play with one of them at work. However, in this video he says bluetooth only goes ten feet. While this is true at work we had this keyboard clear down the hall and we were also able to use it fairly effectively through walls. Personally I could just play with the touch eject button on the slot loader all day long. Great for games and lan parties.

yer tru xps will burn a macbook any day, and people say dell are shit but theyre better than heaps of other computers out on the market, basically all of then come with 1gb of ram and dual cores and over 100gb HDD and the monitors are like the best out there

Did you want to try benchmarks. Maybe rip a video. Try xps m1210 or xps m1710 both will burn any mac book pro. 200gb*2 = 400gb in raid 0 at 7200 rpm. Ohh the nvidia 7900gtx with 512mb. Don.t trip apple will get it in 2009. Lmao!! or You want to try alienware with 1gb of video mem(2*7950gtx in sli) and 4gbs of ram. Let me know if are man enough to back it up with some money? steve jobs can talk all the shit but both nvidia and ati launch there stuff on a xps. Apple is years behind pcs in gpu

MuLegend this is not a desktop as we know it. There is a new word about computers like this that people have started using lately. It is a desktop replacement since it is a bit too big(20"+ screen and around 9kg) to act as a usual laptop, but it is still portable easier than a usual desktop. It's kind of a hybrid or something.

Ayyy ya!!!! It's not just a laptop. It's for office and at home, so you could bring it conviniently. It's 20 inch coz it's a desktop. I think they design that more of being a desktop than a laptop. It saves space too.

Would you rather play such as counter strike in a laptop or desktop? And the convinience is really good. Since you don't have to unplug and setup anything if you wanted to go to a friend and play LAN. Did you guys ever thought of that?

One sexy machine this is. But for a performance machine and with a 20.1" monitor like this, I would expect Dell to make it handle 1900x1600 resolutions. Not just 1680x1050.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Dell XPS range and have even own a XPS GEN2, and that has a 17" monitory but 1900x1600 resolution.

the keyboard doesnt stay on the laptop w/o support underneith it.. its just two clips and not a magnet.. although the bluetooth keyboard/mouse is a definite plus. the size of the base is about 11"x16" w/o having the keyboard attached so i dont know what the size of the airplane table is... hope that helps oh yeah and i love it.. with the graphics card, huge display, and great processor i personally believe it is worth the high price tag
