Of course, if you're pitting such special vehicles against each other, you also need special racers for the job. Driving the Survolt was Le Mans Series and Touring Car racing driver Vanina Ickx, who also happens to be the daughter of Formula One legend Jacky Ickx.
Seems to me the car and bike made it there about the same time. However, the bike would use less electricity but the car would be safer. Too bad this wasn't a live "race" with two people.. one on bike and one in car. Then it would be good results. Good video :)
Thanks for the comments, I think another issue is the bike always takes the same time but the car journey can be a lot longer, easily affected by excess traffic or a bit of road works. Though I do thing it is safer by car when its raining and as for the snow and ice we had recently, all I can say is I don't bounce as well as I used to!
No, the mic on the camera picks up the vibration through the frame, I have a mic pad on it now but really need to find a better place to mount the thing. The motor sound is louder than a hub motor but not so loud that other cyclists hear it when you pass them!
Excellent work! Several thoughts: why electric for a shortish journey? Can you find a more pleasant journey via bike? Do you find it less dangerous than a conventional bike? ie roundabouts one of the worst bits statistically for bikes, do you find it's safer on that last one with more power?
To be honest the 3-4 mile an hour difference is negligible you can usually pedal faster, but I do think having the electric assist is safer. I go easy to work using motor and steady pedalling and hammer it home, I have a 3K steady rising hill to get up which is a big pain on a normal bike and a big bad 2 lane roundabout I need to turn right on. Without the motor I used to get to work dripping, it just makes the commute easier and I think safer, helps you pull away and allows you a rest if needed

Sweet!
What motor is that? Ive been thinking of getting aircraft brushless motors, 4 to 6kW is only about 200 euro nowadays.

is that motor really as loud as it sounds? I would imagine that would get extremely annoying after a short period.
Way to save fuel, though.

If the bike was more aggressive with the riding it could have been closer. That and if it was mostly through town. Not so many highways.
For your next vid get on the curbs weave around cars ect.Kick that cars ass.
