This generation of 'white people' didn't own and whip slaves, nor are all of them racist assholes by proxy. And it's not about the word itself, the issue IS about what the word contains, the meaning and its impact on numerous cultures. Black people saying the word are just using it to alienate white people and it's their grudge that's keeping their race a step away from actual unity.

People do make it controversial, but all in all it's still hypocritical to move forward from racial tension by prolonging the usage of word in a racial context under the basis of it being something positive. But yeah, for the most part it's something that should be left alone. For the record though, I still think that if some black people want other races not to say it then they should quit glamorizing it.

Just be real about it. The ONLY reason the word is "confusing" or controversial today, is because WE made it that way. I removed the word from my vocabulary because of the ignorance behind it. I used it when I was young and ignorant, but seeing how loosely the word is used out in the streets made me wake up. By calling each other nigga all day every day, we taught people that the word was not racist anymore. We taught them that it's all good. Worst of all, we taught them we're ok with it.
