At the time I lived about a mile away from the cherry creek state park where the pope spoke to the masses, man there must have been half a million people there that day! As for mile high stadium it was something that I never saw before in Denver, thousands of people coming together and loving one another!
Nunca olvidare a Juan Pablo II. Lo extraño. Dios los Bendiga.
To reiterate something I posted 2 years back, I have varied coverage of this great event in US history that I taped on VHS of the EWTN live broadcast. My continuing dilemma is how to transfer it from VHS to utube. Any advice?
I remember those 2 days very well. I and another cohort spray-painted blasphemous messages on the walls of the Cherry Creek parkway. The organizers had to delay the walk by the little lambs to Cherry Creek Park in order to paint and cover-up our vandalism. The pilgrimage to Cherry Creek was the Catholic Church's version of the Bataan Death March. The next day, at least 14,000 youths had to be treated at Denver area hospitals for heat exhaustion. Oh, my.
Ciao
I went to WYD93, I was 15 years old and I will never forget it. From the Opening Mass at Civic Park to the wet and rainy camp out at Cherry Creek...what an awesome time. The best part was the small group of four I was in. Our "chaperone" trusted us to just let us go as we please. We walked all the way to Mile High Stadium just to find out only one of us had the "special" pass to get in! At night we would have fun on 16th street mall. WYD93!!
Thank you for posting this video. I was there with my youth group. I also had a very similar feeling when the Pope came out of the helicopter. My youth group was sitting in the section behind the stage. When he turned and waved at us we all cried. I still get the goose bumps thinking about that day.
WYD'93 in Denver,Colorado was a milestone event for Catholicism in the US of A; the first (of hopefully many) World Youth Days to be held on American soil. Due to other commitments at the time, I was unable to go there, so I did the next best thing; watched it live on EWTN. The opening ceremony at(the former) Mile High Stadium was very stirring, so moving that I taped it all on VHS. Someday I'll figure out how to transpose it to utube so all can experience it as I did and continue to do!!
