Sorry I apologise I didnt mean to post that last sentence I was in a bad mood. I still stand by my first sentence. Wing Chun is very effective in real life situations (no i don't give a rats ass about Bruce Lee, I just like wing tsun)

man its great to see that not everyone has bought into the whole "im an mma fighter so i can beat up anytone" mentality. besides mma isnt real fighting. there arent any eye gouges or low blows, let alone biting and hair pulling. if some meat head got me to the ground of course im gonna bite him. we are animals arent we ?
wtf who think a fucking ufs fighter can own bruce lee or any professional marial artist huh that fucked if u fight me i show u how martial arts works fag
anyone trying to say that a ufc fighter would beat bruce lee is just ignorant. ufc or any other league fighters are used to fighting in a controlled enviornment with rules. bruce lee taught to fight with simplicity and practicality. he would do whatever it took to defeat an opponent. flexibility in style and adaption are the cornerstones of jeet kun do. virtually every fighter in the ufc uses jeet kun do because it is a mixture of all fighting techniques.
please, if bruce lee were alive and not almost 70 years old, he would embarass anyone in the ufc. they arent even martial artists, just white hillbillies who know a little jiu jitsu so they call themselves martial artist.
You are fucking stupid Bruce Lee is considered the grandfather of MMA, he thought of the idea of cross training your body to adapt to other styles. He has fought many people in the world, he can fight and random opponent not even knowing their styles and still beat them.
lol, Bruce lee isn't the "God" of martial arts like most people think he is. Put him up against people who fight for a living in the American leagues on the higher levels and he get his but handed to him(aka beaten). If he ever went up against a skilled fighter such as "The Greek" he would get destroyed.
well im a martial art fanatic i love every sight of it and even what type of martial arts you train striking grappling or weaponary in a real fight every thing is allowed there are no rules. that's what the scary part is you don't know what the enemy will do..
it's not like in the ring when you warm up first and gets prepeared but realistic fight doesn't work like that you must be ready anytime:)
serkan yilmaz,a traditional tkd fighter in k-1,his kicks are lethal!theres videos of his fights on youtube.I'm not taking anything away from any martial art, groundfighting is not always effective,to me it helps to keep an open mind, use whatever works.Bruce lee is a legend.
all martial arts takes discipline, but not all are truly effective,In my opinion you need to learn how to fight standing up and how to fight on the ground.checkout how static the wing chun guy is,a quick double leg takedown and he'll be asking questions on how do I defend myself when I'm flat on my back.
Are you a competent grappler or face one? Have you SEEN their "Anti-Grapple" BULLSHIT??? CAN YOU BE THAT COMPLETELY IDIOTIC AND BLIND TO LET THEM SPOON FEED YOU THOSE HUGE AMOUNTS OF BULLSHIDO??? Yes, I guess you are.
I'm guessing youve never studied wing chun? And no i don't buy into the bullshit, i never stated that someone versed in ground techniques in wing chun would beat someone who was well versed in ju jitsu. I did however simply say that wing chun has ground techniques and these techniques would enable someone to handle themeselves on the floor. These kind of arguements are boring anyway!
Then shut the fuck up and let the Boztepe's and Liu's out there continue for you (Except those two actually think they CAN beat a BJJ fighter...) And I'm guessing that I've heard enough first hand evidence from _ing _un practitioners (and witnessed myself it in seminars, demos, and videos) to make an educated assumption on it. And _ing _un had ground techniques that MAGICALLY appeared after the UFC popularity... guess what? TKD says they have it too.
btw a lot of ppl get all worked up about how the fight will always end up on the ground and how ground fighting is more important. guess what, it takes the same amount of skill to bring someone down as to keep himself up. in all my sparring with relatively experienced judo and aikido fighters, they won't bring me down unless i let them...
I believe its a mix of both old school and new school styles that work. Whats already been proven in ages past still applies today. You rely to much on tradition, then its a bad thing. Eventually someone else will figure out a better application, a better counter and etc. Basically, styles branch out after mastery of previous ones. Then you start fooling around and get creative... then bam!!!! You are a master of your own. Isn't this how science and technology progresses as well?
Great video thanks for putting this together, Master Wong is kicking ass with his DVDs at the moment, shame I cant understand what he is saying a lot of the time.
How did you come to that conclusion? From the DVD I have of him he is clearly one of the only people at the moment who is teaching the proper applications of Tai Chi. His interviews in MAI make perfect sense. So how exacly is he a phony?
Don't get me wrong, I love tai chi. But this guy is just not realistic. He talks about laying people down, but I am an active ringfighter and i can tell you ,that stuff doesn't work in a real fight. The guys in the clip aren't even aiming at him and they're just standing there waiting for him to hit them.
Thanks for that nugget of wisdom there mate...No, really. I really needed to know that. Cus I base my ideas about who is a good fighter on magazine interviews.
okei, i laugh a lot while reading the oponions of master as you are!wrong!i can use only boxing and i will win, i can use only karate and i will win so stop. it depends on am i odinary fighter or my speed and power is above any fighter!or even i use only one punch all time and you cant do nothing!styles cant give me much, can you see that!
spralee, u believe styles cannot give u much.. u do wot siuts u, hav u tried many styles before? in my opinion we can learn alot from different styles and different methods of training. we dont HAVE to use them...
they can give you static knowlage how to use your human body, but real fight needs fresh knowladge!-YOU IDIOT!ANY THING THAT IS STATIC I WILL FIND A KEY to stop you!so why you think that you cant create anything!you can if you overcame the hypnosis of secret styles!beside as they have not produced fighter who is better than others-then fuck them all!syles only limit self-expression!
find a key to stop me..?? im an idiot?? why do u challenge everything i say? i wasnt saying a real fight didnt need wot u call 'fresh knowlege'.. i simly said studying various styles and knowing them can b useful...wether we use it or not is up to the individual.
you are better if you leave second-hand knowladge and use your own attention to find out way above static styles.then you can find that your own attention gives you more hints then all static styles together.and then you are not idiot anymore!
Try getting someone who hasnt fought or trained before to do pad work or punch properly without proper training. The fact is some not all martial arts have come about from generations of experience in real combat and training. Furthermore if you knew anything about fighting you wouldant be so convinced you are correct and you would probably be sensible enough to not call people idiots for no good reason. You argue against "styles" when your "no-style" does not make any sense.
It's not really. Of all those shown, Wing Chun is the least useful and most likely to teach you BS. You should be looking at Muay Thai, and possibly JKD, although many JKD instructors are also full of it.
how cud u say that?! i practice wing chun and find it most usefull!! in saying that it is least usefull of all martial arts and is most likly to teach u bullshit i asume u hav trained in it for many years?? u hav understood all of its concepts and been to all the wing chun skools the world has too offer?? what is it that makes it BS?
I don't have to go out and learn Wing Chun to know it sucks any more than I have to go out and learn magic tricks to know it's just slight of hand and not real magic. WC specializes in only one fighting range. Trapping is over complicated and easily neutralized by long range strikes or by clinching. WC footwork is impractical and inflexible, especially compared to boxing footwork. And finally WC strikes generally lack power and are thus ineffective.
you both are right wing chung is good only infighting but otherwise he loses his effectivness quickly:)and secondly all depends of speed and timing.without that anything is unpractical.bruce understand that thing very quickly.
Speed and timing are a part of ALL martial arts. You can not just force a fight to stay at the trapping range, especially if who you're fighting is determined to fight in a different range.
if ur opponent uses a long range style u get close enough or too 'trapping range' so that they cannot use ther long range tecnique. wen they attack they alwais open up a hole, infact u cannot move without oening a hole. a soon as u see or feel that hole u move in and attack it!
That's a nice theory, but trying to take advantage of a long range attack to close the distance when you're being hit in the face and don't have the footwork to catch back up to them. This also ignores the possibility of someone clinching and completely shutting down your ability to use trapping.
thats y u attack the hole and not the long range technique head on. u use speed and dnt give them a chance to be hitting u in the face. use positioning and gwd ffast footwork. thats right that u might not hav the footwork to catch up but thats wot training is for isnt it?? it all comes down to the person that trains more and has more experience. thats y the debate over long range vs short range is pointless...comes down to the individual..
How much time and effort you put into training is not the only thing that indicates how good of a fighter you are. What you train is also a big part of it. A boxer couldn't hope to out grapple a wrestler no matter how much time he spends boxing, and a wrestler can not out box a boxer no matter how much time he spends wrestling. A Wing Chun guy couldn't hope to beat either in a fight if all he practices is WC.
justGuess500, i disagree... if a boxer was to go up against a wrestler he might use his boxing skills to force the wrestler too box. same with the wrestler, he wud find ways to grab his opponent..use his wrestling..trying to force the other fighter to wrestle. to say WC fighters onlii train to fight against WC fighters (thats wot ur saying isnt it?) is wrong because i am a practitioner myself and we train too use it against a variaty of styles.
Whoa. This is getting out of hand. I love how seriously you guys can debate the validity of any of the martial arts in the video, but the reason I wanted to check out wing-chun was that it was looked more eloquent than the others (I'm more interested in the ART than the MARTIAL).
Nice vid, but do you know where I can find info on the Flamingo style? I am tall and lanky so distance is a good friend of mine; plus I have always had a love for good leg techniques. If you havent seen this style, I would highly suggest "The Legend of Drunken Master"...I think thats the correct title. It is the more recent Drunken Master movie starring Jackie Chan.
Bruce Lee and Ninjitsu? I don't know.... To does who still don't know or "get it", JKD is not a style or even a set of techniques that can be applied to any style. Jeet Kune Do was more of a philosophy and I will go as far as to say that it can be considered a way of life. Lee never wanted it to be considered a style since after a certain point in his life he stopped believing in styles.
No, it's really not like ninjitsu at all. I've watched Bruce Lee's videos, have his training manual and trained with ninjitsu practitioners, there's no more similarity there than any other martial art.
Muay Thai, Wing Chun, and Tai Chi are three of the very biggest martial art styles in the world.
I assume by Ninjutsu you mean Taijutsu. Not all forms of Taijutsu are even alike. JeetKuneDo isn't any more similar to Taijutsu then Hapkido. Jeet Kune Do is not even a style, it's a system you apply to any style you already know.
And if you're saying that styles like WingChun and Taiji are stupid, then you are certainly talking out of your ass.
i believe mixed martial arts is the most effective when it comes to actual fighting,, whether it be in a cage the ring or on the street,, the evolution of mma proves it,, we now no exactly wat wrks wen there are no rules. If traditional martial arts wrked then they wuld be in mma and win,, the fact is in full contact no holds barred the mma practitioner wins
What does a decade and a half prove? Think about hundreds of years of combat and survival, I think the systems that were created a long time ago to keep one alive and the fact that at that time they had a lot more time to practice and develop it would create a system that works.
Gung Fu masters do not paticipate in UFC or MMA because they don't believe in using there techniques for the mere entertainment of the public. Most Gung Fu styles stresses the point of never using your gung fu in anything other than self defense.
Don't get me wrong though, I think MMA is great, I'm about to start training in muay thai, western boxing and jujitsu soon. Main reason I think these styles are popular is of course the popularity of MMA, but more so that they are techniques that are easy to learn and use right away. Most Gung Fu takes a lot of time! Modern day era does not allow much time to master Gung Fu for the average individual.
I agree with the terminator guy. But there are three kinds of martial arts now. Sport, traditional, and war arts. If you water down your traditional arts enough for rules, a ref, and a cage, you've created a sport art. This involves taking away ALOT of the practical techniques. Then there's the war arts that teach how to kill someone, break knecks, jaws, arms, legs, etc. These, you'll NEVER see in MMA. You'd be kicked out in 10 seconds.
If you are really a martial artist(like myself) then you dont mind the pain. in fact i often let myself get hit once to feel alive, i feel it the next morning lol.
from what i read there are plenty of so called martial art masters in here why dont you post a video or if your in brooklyn even better i will test you out and post the video if you cant do either your just bsing
chill man. They have a knowledge of martial arts,so does most of the world. It's thier opinoin. There's no reason to get all fired up and cocky over a point of view.
the problem is, in my opinion, that a lot of practicioners of traditional fighting systems learn the movements, but not the purpose of those movements. they just learn to do a dance with kicks etc.
i insure you.. a wing chung master a mma fighter will lose. but if you take a average mma fighter against a average wing chung fighter the wing chung fighter will lose i think. because the purpose of mma is easier to understand.
fucking shit music (the wong fei hung tune i can handle) why do people insist on putting death rock with martial arts? then ramble about tradition, a real traditional martial artist would probably never put any music on when training let alone "let the bodies hit the floor" head bang at home if you want put dont put great martial footage on and ruin it with crap music.
Weither traditional or mixed martial arts, it shouldn't make any difference. Without the traditional martial arts, there wouldn't be any type of fighting system. Mixed Martial arts consists of striking and grappling . Without the tradition of Ju-jitsu and or Muay Thai, there wouldn't be Mixed Martial arts. What's Brazilian Ju-Jitsu with the tradition of Japanese Ju-Jitsu. Never blame the discipline , it's all about the fighter and his/her skill.
almost anyone who says traditional martial arts don't work on the street has either never been in an actual fight, or had a shitty teacher who taught them wrong. Without my "traditional martial arts" training i wouldn't be here today.
This MMA vs. traditional argument is the same as style vs. style. It matters how you train. MMA fighters train to fight, unlike MANY traditional styles, so they will be more prepared for a fight situation. If the go against Kyokushin or Muay Thai or another art that trains to fight, they will get killed standing up. If it goes to grappling, maybe a jujitsu or judo practicioner would win. A throw on the street doesn't land you on canvas. The practicioner matters more than the style.
Martial Artists and MMA fighters environments are totally different. MMA fighters are good inside of a cage, and fight based on rules, and are trying to knock out or submit the opponent. True Martial Arts is about severely hurting your opponent or killing them before they hurt you or kill you. Anything is legal on the streets. So in a cage situation MMA wins, but on the steets a true Martial Artist most likely will win.
jason th hitman is an idiot. mma is more real and works better in a street situation then traditional martial arts. there is endless footage on youtube of traditionalists getting their asses handed to them by mma, grapplers, and wrestlers. a lot of traditonal martial arts don't even work in the first place. and i'm sure that if a grappler submits somebody that it's a severe injury senario. you could end up with a broken arm or even get choked out until you are dead.
MMA is not "more real". MMA is specifically for competition. My traditional martial arts background has helped me to defeat two MMA fighters that I have trained with. If traditional martial arts don't work, then they wouldn't still be around after hundreds of years. By the way, both Muay Thai and jiu jitsu are traditional martial arts. I don't hear MMA people slamming those two.
There is a common practice that people only learn some traditional forms of kungfu and claim that they are traditional style experts. In reality, they only know how to move or dance in traditional styles, they donot how to fight. MMA is really a great way of fighting. But it will be wrong if someone claim that MMA fighters are Slamming all the traditional martial artists like Shoalin, Muay Thai, Jiu-jitsu etc.
There's no such thing as an ma that doesn't work. There are martial artists who don't work, though, and if you don't ever spar or learn how to deal with varied situations, you can't be a good fighter - and so it is with many modern martial artists. Had you ever thought about why JKD fighters don't go in for competitions like the UFC even though JKD is to all kickboxing arts what BJJ is to wrestling, a scientific and well-adapted way?
Is this a set you bought? What is it's name so i can invest.

Osirisrules 4 years ago
well im a martial art fanatic i love every sight of it and even what type of martial arts you train striking grappling or weaponary in a real fight every thing is allowed there are no rules. that's what the scary part is you don't know what the enemy will do..
it's not like in the ring when you warm up first and gets prepeared but realistic fight doesn't work like that you must be ready anytime:)

serkan yilmaz,a traditional tkd fighter in k-1,his kicks are lethal!theres videos of his fights on youtube.I'm not taking anything away from any martial art, groundfighting is not always effective,to me it helps to keep an open mind, use whatever works.Bruce lee is a legend.
stevecozy 4 years ago
martial arts requires discipline. every martial art has its own strength and weakness. but the purpose i feel should be used for greater intentions.
n0tjustakidd 4 years ago
all martial arts takes discipline, but not all are truly effective,In my opinion you need to learn how to fight standing up and how to fight on the ground.checkout how static the wing chun guy is,a quick double leg takedown and he'll be asking questions on how do I defend myself when I'm flat on my back.
stevecozy 4 years ago
Wing Chun has extrensive ground tecniques. Someone well versed in Wing Chun would be able to defend with their back to the ground.
perkinator123 4 years ago
Are you a competent grappler or face one? Have you SEEN their "Anti-Grapple" BULLSHIT??? CAN YOU BE THAT COMPLETELY IDIOTIC AND BLIND TO LET THEM SPOON FEED YOU THOSE HUGE AMOUNTS OF BULLSHIDO??? Yes, I guess you are.
WorldWarCheese 4 years ago
I'm guessing youve never studied wing chun? And no i don't buy into the bullshit, i never stated that someone versed in ground techniques in wing chun would beat someone who was well versed in ju jitsu. I did however simply say that wing chun has ground techniques and these techniques would enable someone to handle themeselves on the floor. These kind of arguements are boring anyway!
perkinator123 4 years ago
Then shut the fuck up and let the Boztepe's and Liu's out there continue for you (Except those two actually think they CAN beat a BJJ fighter...) And I'm guessing that I've heard enough first hand evidence from _ing _un practitioners (and witnessed myself it in seminars, demos, and videos) to make an educated assumption on it. And _ing _un had ground techniques that MAGICALLY appeared after the UFC popularity... guess what? TKD says they have it too.

The style I found most weak here was Jeet Kune Do.
Mottahead 4 years ago
jeet kune do is not a style.
hedgehog66 4 years ago
...Technically it is......
Osirisrules 4 years ago
i suppose then you'd be able beat bruce lee?
btw a lot of ppl get all worked up about how the fight will always end up on the ground and how ground fighting is more important. guess what, it takes the same amount of skill to bring someone down as to keep himself up. in all my sparring with relatively experienced judo and aikido fighters, they won't bring me down unless i let them...
paradox1789 4 years ago
Aikido I can see, but Judo? Please, you're full of shit. No video, never happened.
WorldWarCheese 4 years ago
Its true Bruce Lee never meant for Jeet Kune Do to be a style.
perkinator123 4 years ago
I believe its a mix of both old school and new school styles that work. Whats already been proven in ages past still applies today. You rely to much on tradition, then its a bad thing. Eventually someone else will figure out a better application, a better counter and etc. Basically, styles branch out after mastery of previous ones. Then you start fooling around and get creative... then bam!!!! You are a master of your own. Isn't this how science and technology progresses as well?

Great video thanks for putting this together, Master Wong is kicking ass with his DVDs at the moment, shame I cant understand what he is saying a lot of the time.

master wong is a big phony. he is just a loudmouth, man.
hedgehog66 4 years ago
How did you come to that conclusion? From the DVD I have of him he is clearly one of the only people at the moment who is teaching the proper applications of Tai Chi. His interviews in MAI make perfect sense. So how exacly is he a phony?
MSF1 4 years ago
Don't get me wrong, I love tai chi. But this guy is just not realistic. He talks about laying people down, but I am an active ringfighter and i can tell you ,that stuff doesn't work in a real fight. The guys in the clip aren't even aiming at him and they're just standing there waiting for him to hit them.
hedgehog66 4 years ago
So ringfighting is real fighting is it?
MSF1 4 years ago
But i do agree with you Hedgehog that if he faced a fighter such as Muay Thai or boxer or something along those lines, he would do that well
Osirisrules 4 years ago
p.s. real fighting is not about giving good interviews.

spralee, u believe styles cannot give u much.. u do wot siuts u, hav u tried many styles before? in my opinion we can learn alot from different styles and different methods of training. we dont HAVE to use them...

they can give you static knowlage how to use your human body, but real fight needs fresh knowladge!-YOU IDIOT!ANY THING THAT IS STATIC I WILL FIND A KEY to stop you!so why you think that you cant create anything!you can if you overcame the hypnosis of secret styles!beside as they have not produced fighter who is better than others-then fuck them all!syles only limit self-expression!
supralee 4 years ago
find a key to stop me..?? im an idiot?? why do u challenge everything i say? i wasnt saying a real fight didnt need wot u call 'fresh knowlege'.. i simly said studying various styles and knowing them can b useful...wether we use it or not is up to the individual.
chineseboxer9 4 years ago
you are better if you leave second-hand knowladge and use your own attention to find out way above static styles.then you can find that your own attention gives you more hints then all static styles together.and then you are not idiot anymore!
supralee 4 years ago
Try getting someone who hasnt fought or trained before to do pad work or punch properly without proper training. The fact is some not all martial arts have come about from generations of experience in real combat and training. Furthermore if you knew anything about fighting you wouldant be so convinced you are correct and you would probably be sensible enough to not call people idiots for no good reason. You argue against "styles" when your "no-style" does not make any sense.

Wing Chun looks fucking hardcore. Anyone know if there's a wing-chun dojo in Ontario Canada?
Fekupuzi 4 years ago
It's not really. Of all those shown, Wing Chun is the least useful and most likely to teach you BS. You should be looking at Muay Thai, and possibly JKD, although many JKD instructors are also full of it.
JustGuess500 4 years ago
how cud u say that?! i practice wing chun and find it most usefull!! in saying that it is least usefull of all martial arts and is most likly to teach u bullshit i asume u hav trained in it for many years?? u hav understood all of its concepts and been to all the wing chun skools the world has too offer?? what is it that makes it BS?
chineseboxer9 4 years ago
I don't have to go out and learn Wing Chun to know it sucks any more than I have to go out and learn magic tricks to know it's just slight of hand and not real magic. WC specializes in only one fighting range. Trapping is over complicated and easily neutralized by long range strikes or by clinching. WC footwork is impractical and inflexible, especially compared to boxing footwork. And finally WC strikes generally lack power and are thus ineffective.
JustGuess500 4 years ago
you both are right wing chung is good only infighting but otherwise he loses his effectivness quickly:)and secondly all depends of speed and timing.without that anything is unpractical.bruce understand that thing very quickly.
supralee 4 years ago
speed and timing are part of wing chun and we make it so that the fight becomes 'infighting'.
chineseboxer9 4 years ago
Speed and timing are a part of ALL martial arts. You can not just force a fight to stay at the trapping range, especially if who you're fighting is determined to fight in a different range.
JustGuess500 4 years ago
if ur opponent uses a long range style u get close enough or too 'trapping range' so that they cannot use ther long range tecnique. wen they attack they alwais open up a hole, infact u cannot move without oening a hole. a soon as u see or feel that hole u move in and attack it!
chineseboxer9 4 years ago
That's a nice theory, but trying to take advantage of a long range attack to close the distance when you're being hit in the face and don't have the footwork to catch back up to them. This also ignores the possibility of someone clinching and completely shutting down your ability to use trapping.
JustGuess500 4 years ago
thats y u attack the hole and not the long range technique head on. u use speed and dnt give them a chance to be hitting u in the face. use positioning and gwd ffast footwork. thats right that u might not hav the footwork to catch up but thats wot training is for isnt it?? it all comes down to the person that trains more and has more experience. thats y the debate over long range vs short range is pointless...comes down to the individual..
chineseboxer9 4 years ago
How much time and effort you put into training is not the only thing that indicates how good of a fighter you are. What you train is also a big part of it. A boxer couldn't hope to out grapple a wrestler no matter how much time he spends boxing, and a wrestler can not out box a boxer no matter how much time he spends wrestling. A Wing Chun guy couldn't hope to beat either in a fight if all he practices is WC.
JustGuess500 4 years ago
justGuess500, i disagree... if a boxer was to go up against a wrestler he might use his boxing skills to force the wrestler too box. same with the wrestler, he wud find ways to grab his opponent..use his wrestling..trying to force the other fighter to wrestle. to say WC fighters onlii train to fight against WC fighters (thats wot ur saying isnt it?) is wrong because i am a practitioner myself and we train too use it against a variaty of styles.
chineseboxer9 4 years ago
Whoa. This is getting out of hand. I love how seriously you guys can debate the validity of any of the martial arts in the video, but the reason I wanted to check out wing-chun was that it was looked more eloquent than the others (I'm more interested in the ART than the MARTIAL).

Opalance 4 years ago

If traditional martial arts wrked then they wuld be in mma and win,, the fact is in full contact no holds barred the mma practitioner wins
theprinceofcamden 4 years ago
What does a decade and a half prove? Think about hundreds of years of combat and survival, I think the systems that were created a long time ago to keep one alive and the fact that at that time they had a lot more time to practice and develop it would create a system that works.
apax5terminator 4 years ago
Gung Fu masters do not paticipate in UFC or MMA because they don't believe in using there techniques for the mere entertainment of the public. Most Gung Fu styles stresses the point of never using your gung fu in anything other than self defense.
apax5terminator 4 years ago
Don't get me wrong though, I think MMA is great, I'm about to start training in muay thai, western boxing and jujitsu soon. Main reason I think these styles are popular is of course the popularity of MMA, but more so that they are techniques that are easy to learn and use right away. Most Gung Fu takes a lot of time! Modern day era does not allow much time to master Gung Fu for the average individual.
apax5terminator 4 years ago
I agree with the terminator guy. But there are three kinds of martial arts now. Sport, traditional, and war arts. If you water down your traditional arts enough for rules, a ref, and a cage, you've created a sport art. This involves taking away ALOT of the practical techniques. Then there's the war arts that teach how to kill someone, break knecks, jaws, arms, legs, etc. These, you'll NEVER see in MMA. You'd be kicked out in 10 seconds.

the problem is, in my opinion, that a lot of practicioners of traditional fighting systems learn the movements, but not the purpose of those movements. they just learn to do a dance with kicks etc.
i insure you.. a wing chung master a mma fighter will lose. but if you take a average mma fighter against a average wing chung fighter the wing chung fighter will lose i think. because the purpose of mma is easier to understand.

fucking shit music (the wong fei hung tune i can handle) why do people insist on putting death rock with martial arts? then ramble about tradition, a real traditional martial artist would probably never put any music on when training let alone "let the bodies hit the floor" head bang at home if you want put dont put great martial footage on and ruin it with crap music.

Lavarpsu10 5 years ago
Martial Artists and MMA fighters environments are totally different. MMA fighters are good inside of a cage, and fight based on rules, and are trying to knock out or submit the opponent. True Martial Arts is about severely hurting your opponent or killing them before they hurt you or kill you. Anything is legal on the streets. So in a cage situation MMA wins, but on the steets a true Martial Artist most likely will win.
JasonTheHitman 5 years ago
jason th hitman is an idiot. mma is more real and works better in a street situation then traditional martial arts. there is endless footage on youtube of traditionalists getting their asses handed to them by mma, grapplers, and wrestlers. a lot of traditonal martial arts don't even work in the first place. and i'm sure that if a grappler submits somebody that it's a severe injury senario. you could end up with a broken arm or even get choked out until you are dead.
lessonsinthewind 4 years ago
MMA is not "more real". MMA is specifically for competition. My traditional martial arts background has helped me to defeat two MMA fighters that I have trained with. If traditional martial arts don't work, then they wouldn't still be around after hundreds of years. By the way, both Muay Thai and jiu jitsu are traditional martial arts. I don't hear MMA people slamming those two.
statementz 4 years ago
There is a common practice that people only learn some traditional forms of kungfu and claim that they are traditional style experts. In reality, they only know how to move or dance in traditional styles, they donot how to fight. MMA is really a great way of fighting. But it will be wrong if someone claim that MMA fighters are Slamming all the traditional martial artists like Shoalin, Muay Thai, Jiu-jitsu etc.
Hasnain007 4 years ago
There's no such thing as an ma that doesn't work. There are martial artists who don't work, though, and if you don't ever spar or learn how to deal with varied situations, you can't be a good fighter - and so it is with many modern martial artists. Had you ever thought about why JKD fighters don't go in for competitions like the UFC even though JKD is to all kickboxing arts what BJJ is to wrestling, a scientific and well-adapted way?
