Listen to his album , " The Balladeer " , a lot of the songs are on YouTube. in the accompanying literature of his Bio, it says that he always wanted to do a Frank Sinatra style album. It's interesting that when I play it for people, it takes them a while to realize it's Marvin. It's one of my favorites. Thanks
It should've been included in his " The Balladeer " album, which has a lot of standards on it. Every time I play this album for people they always respond with , Wow who is that and then freak out when they find out it's Marvin. If you like this style of his singing, or just love Marvin then you can't afford to not to find it. Look for some of the songs on the tube.
@dlrob315 No one stopped Marvin from going in that direction, he recorded Jazz albums they just didn't sell and Motown specialised in 3 minute pop soul, beat driven hits. But they reluctantly allowed Marvin the chance to have a crack at the Jazz market with albums like The Soulful Moods Of Marvin Gaye (1961), Hello Broadway (1964), When I'm Alone I Cry (1964) and Tribute To Nat King Cole (1965). Those albums just didn't sell like his R&B hits. He even wrote a Jazz album for Sammy Davis Jr.
@2009Denisem i like it but i like old blues eyes better i'm a mobster or did you forget? ahhhhhhhhhh forget about it! The Doctor Detroit will take care of ya! okay! lol!
I strongly prefer Marvin's soul and r&b recordings, but this is cool too. Marvin is ill, that just the mere fact that he is singing a song makes it so much better.
I read somewhere that Marvin...as great a Soul singer he was, preferred singing standards like this. Not sure how true that was. He was truly a great singer so he could have done it all. I have a cd of Marvin singing nothing but standards and it's awesome. This is beautifully done.
I love this version so much! different side of M.Gaye and we can tell that he was such a talented&gifted singer. I have this CD: ROMANTICALLY YOURS Columbia CK 40208
I love this version. MARVIN! U are missed my brother!

As much as I love soul and Marvin, this isn't as good as Frank for some reason.

Marvin is my favourite artist of all time, but even though this is amazing I dont think it's a touch on his own material.

The violin melody intro is similar to George Bensons "I always knew I had it in me"

@Rnav4712 I read he was inspired by Nat King Cole, but his handlers would not let go in that direction!
