i love this! my mom and i were walking somewhere and saw a dude with fake dreads, its a mark of how awesome our music collection is that we both started singing this!!!
My fellow whitey's, thanks for embarressing me yet again...No wonder we are the least respected race on the planet...Our heritage is of murdering, raping, and stealing from other races.
@cffnmkr13 You didn't do any of that shit. (I hope) If you're so damn embarrassed than why don't you make a change for the better and allow you're race to be seen in a positive light. You're not earning anyones respect by criticizing your own race.
LEARN YOUR (OUR) PEOPLES HISTORY IN THIS COUNTRY AND IN SOUTH AFRICA, JUST TWO EXAMBLES! And I am doing something positive to bring respect back to the white race, I'm bringing dead, old, forgotten, rusty prewar trucks back to life!!! P_.S. atleast I a honest not only with myself, but with who I am. STOP living in denial.
I'm not in denial. I just don't blame myself for things that my ancestors did. I agree with you, the white race collectively is probably the most ruthless, greedy, evil, and close minded in history. The Europeans fucked up Africa, Asia, America, and the Middle East and most of their biggest problems can be traced back to white men. But all that stuff happened years before you or I were born how are we responsible? The color of your skin doesn't make you evil or good, we're all the same.
actually this is what's known as third wave ska. The Jamaican ska you're referring to is called first wave named after the very first ska band, the skatalites. Second wave is generally british, i.e The Specials.
Ska named after the skatalites? Then where did they get the name? I always thought it was the other way around... See, when the fingers 'rest' on the chords, the strumming makes a ska, ska, ska sound. Thus then the name ska was born. Satalites were a big deal, as was all scifi in the early, early sixties, so combining the sound ska, with the popular satalites was a great way to promote not just the band, but the new wave of music they played...
Here's a little correction- this is third wave ska, so you're technically wrong. This isn't original first wave Jamaican ska, but it is ska yet. Skankin pickle is known to have been a 3rd wave band, and you're nobody to say they weren't.
the only reason I made this video is because I couldn't find a studio version of this song on youtube. the pictures that go along with it are totally random pics I found using google of people "fakin'"
@mooker1969 Thank you for putting this together. Do you have anymore of this cd on youtube yet? I love the song 'Asian Man' ... I just cant seem to find it anywhere though.
no their talking about the ones who do the image of it and know little of it besides dreadlocks have been around before it was in the rasta faith you clearly know nothing of it and its modern meaning but yet again feel free to insult me as much as you want :) i will just correct you over and over
fuck it man why the fuck do you care about them quit being a bitch and just be happy with yourself, fuck everyone alse, if they wanna dress like it let it be....
Fair enough. But if you haven't tried it, you really don't know what it's like, so you can't really know if you'll like it or not until you try it. :P
Eh, doesn't matter. Reggae by itself is plenty fun.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I didn't either, but then my brother offered me his '66 mustang if I smoked with him once. So... I kinda had to try it. lol.
It starts off when they think they're cool for taking a hit of cheap weed, then they listen to Bob Marley and wear Rasta colors so they can have the image.
But they know nothing of the culture or religion. It's all an image thing.
Every time I see these kids I wanna hit them in the face
dreds came from many different cultures. vikings, indian, islander, and many more. its not for religion at all really. dreds happen over time when you dont brush/comb your hair. its a common thing to happen. it doesnt really belong to one specific thing.
why all the thumbs down? this guy is right. Even a Rastafarian will tell you that not all Rastas wear dreads and and not all people who wear dreads are Rasta. Dreadlocks go back to ancient Egypt and beyond. Many cultures had the dreadlock hairstyle, even though it is often attributed to Jamaica and Rastafarian culture. That's like saying black and white checkered pattern = ska, which is not always the case. It wasn't invented or used exclusively by the 2-tone label.
I am a big S.P. fan but rasta has very little to do with skin color or Jamaica. JAH almighty is the creator of all man, and all life comes from Ethiopia, we are all African, under one creator. And dreds are from northern India, as the Indians came to the island as indentured servants. the children of JAH are from all over. JAH BLESS!!
i think its more about kids wearing rasta colors and dreds because they think it is cool, not because they believe in the religion.. this video makes me crack up! haha. this is the first i have heard of Skankin Pickle, they are awesome!
@emancipateorlando youre sooooo right. i and i see the ital through... but you got to admit some people do just get locks and try to be rasta even when they dont know a thing about jah ras tafari or the word of HIM. but yes rasta is for everyone you jus gotta embrace it fully
could any1 be smart enough to tell me some good ska bands that sound like the forces of evil,[spunge], streetlight manifesto/catch 22, mustard plug, the skatastrophes, reel big fish, or the aquabats?
Agreed, I love that video. You can almost bet without fail that when any person tries too hard to act like another culture, they look ridiculous and are an easy target for jokes. Hence this song, for example.
