I serously cannot get enough of the music of N64 RR. The SNES RR... it scares me. Like some Mario games I've seen on the SNES. That was when I was little, I didn't know they could scare me now.

NES- Thwomps? This course traumatizes me a little, idk why. The music adds to it. Cool, tho.

N64- The music forgives the simple design of the course. The neon signs are pretty and cool. the chomps add a good challenge.

GBA- ''I was gonna play Mario Kart Super Circuit, but I got high.'' Oops, no, I'm playing Rainbow Road. The music is worse.

GC- Great music, and the course? Win!

DS- The loop is a great touch. Music's meh.

Wii- It's not as great as GC or N64. I've only played the Wii and 3DS ones.

This may seem like nostalgia goggles talking, but N64's Rainbow Road, was, is, and will always be the best one for me, I think. It's got too much of a special place in my heart as the final (but not toughest) track in Mario Kart 64, and I've always clung to that. To each their own.

Also, I like how it's not SUPER EASY to fall off there like the other ones :P

On another note, regarding the toughest track, it's the third toughest. Right Behind Bowser's Castle and...FREAKING YOSHI VALLEY. GRR

N64 Course: Out of the question the best, no argument.

Music: I've always like the Double Dash upbeat version with the climactic finish, but N64 obviously was the originator of the timeless classic, so it also gets the nod.

You Forgot the F-Zero X Rainbow Road. It's Not Mario Kart But it's Rainbow road anyway, and the map is the same as the MK64 rainbow road, and the music's the same too if you have a 64DD F-zero X Expansion Kit.
