This event is a spectacular moment to remember our wastage days. It is a good expression to our feelings. I celebrated Earth Hour peacefully by realizing how much I wasted effects to just co-operate with global warming. it was a brilliant moment indeed.
I celebrate earth hour every year by lighting a stack of tires on fire in my back yard with some friends. We all relax in my backyard as we enjoy the acrid, black smoke from the tire pyre.
Great idea and a wonderful video! We participated this year in Washington State and will do a larger scale effort in our community next year! Thanks, Australia, terrific idea!
It was fun husband and I hit the fuse box and turned everythng off for the hour. For all those who said they turned everything on(and some who said they left their car on) would hate to have your power bill and the gas you just wasted. Doesn't make you look cool either-- you just wasted your money is all that was.
Conservation and efficiency are noble goals. The scientific facts supporting the existence of global warming are fairly undeniable. The MEDIA'S reasoning as to the causes of global warming are not only deniable, they are disputed by the majority of the scientific community. Sure, we should leave the world as a cleaner place for our children, but we should not let a handful of unproven theories trigger knee-jerk reactions. Global warming and cooling has been in existence for MILLIONS OF YEARS!

I turned ON all of my lights, I started all of my cars and turned their lights on as well as plugging in some more high wattage bulbs just to piss all the Global Warming bullshit believers off.
For earth day, I turned all the lights and appliances on. I put the AC and the furnace both on to fight it out. I left my car running in the driveway all day and threw recyclables in the regular garbage. I ate beans and farted myself unconscious with methane.
Fuck the eco-idiots and the man-made global warming bullshit.
One of the worlds most annoying and mindless person... He'es an example on why our World don't become better, because he became bullied as child and he takes it out on smart sollutions and answers that we seek and have got from real scientists long before our age...

I believe that if we don't try to slow down this process, the Quaternary period will come to it's end too quickly with a mass extinction, perhaps even a total extinction. Because of the large population of humans on the Earth and the constant advances in technology, we're emmitting C02 at rates that have never before been recorderd. So we're basically speeding up the process of Global Warming, making it nearly impossible for any organism to adapt, which means that they die.
The more C02 in the atmosphere means that more heat is trapped in the Earth, making it warmer.
I personally believe in the theories of the Earth's history, where as the Earth and it's continents moved, the weather changed. So I also believe that climate change is a natural thing and occurs all the time. However, that doesn't make this situation alright.
The attitude that some people have towards Earth Hour is appalling. I can respect that some are religious and have different beliefs, but there is still science in religion, so if you choose to ignore those facts you're simply being ignorant.
For example: Our energy consumption relies on fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas. God didn't send us a message telling us to use these, we decided to. If we use these fossil fuels, then the rate of carbon emmissions goes up.
We'd all make a greater difference if we all just stop breathing for an hour and shut off the lights for good. This one hour thing is a joke. I am turning on all lights, water and the stove to celebrate my God given life in the US in that God has given us all things in life to enjoy. Electric , lights and power are all a part of this. You people worshipping so called "mother earth" is silly. Worship the creator and not creation itself. The earth isn't going anywhrere. Man doe not have that power

If we as Global citizens each burn one tire in solidarity for the Polar Bears the eartsh temperature will drop 3 degrees and the polar caps will not melt. I plan on making a difference on Earth Day. I plan on burning a tire in solidarity for Earth Day to insulate the ozone with a concentric ring of sooty black smoke to block the harmfull U.V. sunlight and hence lowering our Earths temperature ! If everyone does there duty as a Global Citizen and burn at least one Truck tire the Earth will be saved from eccessive costs of the scourge called global warming and most importanly our Ice caps will not melt and our polar bears will survive ! It is ineffective if the biggest part of the world (china and USA, particulary) turn off your lights for 1 hour and them make the factories work twice for pay the lost hours.

I don't think that this is really a problem, anyhow...there are known in history of earth many temperature variations (if you are an meorologist and astronomer you should know) and life continued to exist.

The fact that this video starts by showing a nuclear power plant shows just how stupid these people all are. Anyone who is seriously green believes in nuclear power as a short term solution. As for earth hour it was symbolic but if you dont already know about it then you live in a cave. Theres no lack of spreading the global warming word. Theres a lack of realistic solutions and credible action. BTW the IPCC has stated the earth has been getting colder for the past 10 years.
Just because the earth is cooling doesn't mean that global warming isn't happening. This is probably the greatest misconception of them all. Secondly, to say anything about trends in climate for periods of times shorter than like 100,000 year is basically meaningless. Climate is far too random to be able to extrapolate any sort of pattern unless your talking about 10000 year timescales. And if you think they're doing that for global warming, you're wrong again.
Geologically CO2 levels are the lowest they've ever been for about 600 million years. And 440 million years ago there was about 10 times as much Co2 in the atmostphere. And while the earth did cool and warm during these periods there is no consistant data to suggest the earth gets hotter as CO2 emmisions go up. Unless you use climate data from the 90's. Most of that data is based on guesses since until the launch of the Aqua sattelite we didnt know how the climate actaully adapted and changed.

I study climate physics and I can assure you global warming is very real. I suggest YOU do your own research. Basically everyone in academia agrees that global warming is happening in one way or another. The extent to which its occuring and the scale of the impact is really where there is any disagreement. However, everyone agrees that we need to change the way we live or we are assured of changes in our climate.

I'm all for public awareness for the issues, but this just simply isn't a real issue. We breath oxygen and exhale CO2, plants take in CO2 and release oxygen. Lights. What can I say about lights? They're pretty. Some are colorful, but I don't see where using them is pollution. Aim big words like "pollution" where they belong, at those enormous factories blowing out millions of tons of carbon monoxide into the skies above causing acid rain. Please Make a difference this Earth Day and burn a pile of tire for the sake of our environment and planets survival ! Its just good for our Polar Bears and good for our environment ! We must cool the planet so the olar bear can survive ! If we as Global citizens each burn one tire in solidarity for the Polar Bears the eartsh temperature will drop 3 degrees and the polar caps will not melt. I plan on making a difference on Earth Day. I plan on burning a tire in solidarity for Earth Day to insulate the ozone with a concentric ring of sooty black smoke to block the harmfull U.V. sunlight and hence lowering our Earths temperature ! If everyone does there duty as a Global Citizen and burn at least one Truck tire the Earth will be saved from eccessive costs of the scourge called global warming and most importanly our Ice caps will not melt and our polar bears will survive ! The fact that this video starts by showing a nuclear power plant shows just how stupid these people all are. Anyone who is seriously green believes in nuclear power as a short term solution. As for earth hour it was symbolic but if you dont already know about it then you live in a cave. Theres no lack of spreading the global warming word. Theres a lack of realistic solutions and credible action. BTW the IPCC has stated the earth has been getting colder for the past 10 years.

Just because the earth is cooling doesn't mean that global warming isn't happening. This is probably the greatest misconception of them all. Secondly, to say anything about trends in climate for periods of times shorter than like 100,000 year is basically meaningless. Climate is far too random to be able to extrapolate any sort of pattern unless your talking about 10000 year timescales. And if you think they're doing that for global warming, you're wrong again.

Geologically CO2 levels are the lowest they've ever been for about 600 million years. And 440 million years ago there was about 10 times as much Co2 in the atmostphere. And while the earth did cool and warm during these periods there is no consistant data to suggest the earth gets hotter as CO2 emmisions go up. Unless you use climate data from the 90's. Most of that data is based on guesses since until the launch of the Aqua sattelite we didnt know how the climate actaully adapted and changed.

You get Biofuels and if you've watched the news lately you'll know that about 100 million people are at risk of entering the greatest famine of the past couple hundred years. People in haiti are eating mud because of our solution to climate change. Take it slow, we have a while now before peak oil. Lets get it right

I study climate physics and I can assure you global warming is very real. I suggest YOU do your own research. Basically everyone in academia agrees that global warming is happening in one way or another. The extent to which its occuring and the scale of the impact is really where there is any disagreement. However, everyone agrees that we need to change the way we live or we are assured of changes in our climate.

But I assure you the earth hasent been warming for 100,000 years and if it has it wasnt human causes since definitely wern;t emitting Co2 back in the day. During the 1800s we went through a period called the little iceage when glaciers began to advance again. That was post industrialization.

I'm all for public awareness for the issues, but this just simply isn't a real issue. We breath oxygen and exhale CO2, plants take in CO2 and release oxygen. Lights. What can I say about lights? They're pretty. Some are colorful, but I don't see where using them is pollution. Aim big words like "pollution" where they belong, at those enormous factories blowing out millions of tons of carbon monoxide into the skies above causing acid rain. That's where the pollution really is.

Global warming is a global bullshit! The CO2 is not driving our climate. A man made CO2 is but a minor portion of the CO2 in Earth's atmosphere. Volcanoes produce more CO2 each year then all cars, planes and industry put together. The biggest source of CO2 are the oceans. The climate is changing, it is normal for the Earth, and switching off our lights won't change anything. Don't tell me about the Man Made Global Worming because it is ONE BIG LIE!
