It's a part of the Gradius Series, It has the gradius upgrade system, but, It's not Gradius... When you die, you just respawn on the current screen... Anyway, Gradius and Life Force where made by the same company, Konami...

I remember having this game as an infant, and awhile after I bought it again, I learned about the wonderful arcade version.

Salamander has a good gameplay and is technically very fine, 'cause morphing backgrounds were unusual at this time. The only thing i found, it gets too heavy in the later levels.

You should use a second "option" along with laser, missile, and a force field. This is what I call "being maxed out."
