  • this is for the first time I saw Joe with yellow tele :) RIP Joe

  • I've got a videotape of Joe playin Tony Adams on Conan obrian and Mick with BAD ll and Rankin Roger I can't remember which tune...

Doesn't matter, I have no way to digitize it anyways! Have to dig out a vcr if I ever get motivated...

  • nine years on from Joe's passing and I still shed a tear.. We miss you Joe. Thanks for the memories

  • Thank you, Joe. You always know just what to say.

  • listen and shut the fuck up,but perhaps your hear are are only good to hang up earings. bye joe and lots of thanks for everything.

  • long live botox!!!!

  • Long Live England,Long Live Joe,The World Carries On and English Artists are still the best in the World thanks to Legacy Joe.

  • cant get enough of the "notice how the door closed when the chymes of freedom ring"

  • Joe shouldn't have been playing at david letterman's show....he should have played concerts with hundreds of thousands of persons. It's so sad he was no longer as well known as when he was in the clash. But his fans will always no that he was a true hero. We can just feel terrible sorry we are no longer his contemporans.

  • this is the best songasm ive had in a while

  • The most beautiful video on youtube.

  • Joe Strummer - What a legend, shame how all the good ones die so young. Ringos gonna live forever.

  • Punk rock warlord. rest in Peace John Graham.

  • There will never be another Joe Strummer...He was a true original, and so close to my own heart. R.I.P. Joe

  • Aw man....missin' you, Joe.

  • Beautiful, the man is a genius. The guitar throwing is a throwback to the old clash. Johnny Green was the catcher, Check out his book or utube stories. RocknRoll Joe x

  • i first got a taste of this from the show "john from cincinnati" and i've been hooked onto his stuff ever since. rest in peace my brother <3

  • Words should have sent a poet...

This song always reminds me of the (phenomenal) HBO show John From Cincinnati (title sequence song).

  • amen

  • I love it how he got a guitar all set up for him, then after 30 seconds, he just flung it at the roadie, without ever playing one note!

  • technically he played a chord at 1 min 19 haha

  • Just watched The Future is Unwritten on sundance, heard this song for the first time and was absolutely blown-away. 50 years from now my great grand kid will hear this music and experience the same feelings. Joe's contribution to the world is priceless and his art is timeless.

  • Forgive thy Summer Spent

    Without The Great Joe Strummer!

    Rest in Peace forever!

  • Strummer is amazing can do virtually any style of music...my fav of all time...RIP

  • RIP JOSEPH!!MUCH LOVED BABY!!!

  • Joe Strummer is my hero...

"Joe's not dead, he's just where he's always been... one step ahead of us all."

I found that quote on Tymon Dogg's website

  • he was always so inventive:)

  • Great Performance Joe..As it was always !

I followed The Clash for 2 weeks on the Give Em Enough Rope tour in the summer of 78 as a 17 year old, i met Joe several times then. He had a very natural warmth about him and he was a great man..that`s still my impressions of him 30 years later.

  • what a guy had a chance to meet joe when we did some work on his "rock against the rich"tour a few years ago we went to a party down larklane (liverpool)instead big regret! greatness in music is so rare these days johnny cash john lennon neil young joes up there with them rip joe say hi to me dad.

  • i love how he tosses his guitar away, a punk rock warlord right to the end!

  • i love how TOTALLY innapropriate the guitar throwing is.

    but its just so awesome

  • hah, yeah! Joe is the man...he probably didn't even care, it wasn't the tele he usually plays

  • so great

  • i can't stop watching this. one of the best performances I can remember. I almost cry when he sings "we don't know"

  • i think this was like one of his last performances,he died dec. 22 '02 i think. it's so sad...i miss him so very much..great great musician!!he's a legend!

  • Jesus Joe why did you go....this old punk rocker here misses you like f**k...see you one day soon....

  • thats great stuff. i dont know too much about lagacies, but thats smoking.

  • Don't argue about stupid genres, they're useless anyway. Let's just enjoy Joe Strummer and his great spirit and soul!

  • So true, well said!! Let's just agree he made amazing music!

  • Go on Lads! Show them how it's done!

  • This was a rellay good performance...

  • never question the master

  • Gorgeousness and gorgeosity.

  • My Hero....

  • haha he still chucked his guitar to the side...

  • I totally admire Joe - and The Clash of course...but the 'Mescaleros'? Every single thing I've seen them do with Joe sucked Big-Time. Nothing personal, but you can't put a bunch of young, english musicians with a guy like Joe Strummer and expect something special - it just ain't gonna happen. Sad too. I wonder what Joe was thinking exactly???

  • Joe believed he still had something to say, and he wanted a new way to say it. He didn't want to get stuck in a rut, like some people do (see Axl Rose...)

  • Yeah - I agree. He still had plenty to say - and we need him saying it now more than ever. Axl Rose?? I wouldn't even use that guys name in the same breath as Joe's... :)

  • Load of shyte man, the 2 albums he did with The Mescaleros were, are and STILL decent sellers in the UK.

I take it you have`nt heard them because if you had you wouldn`t have posted the biggest shyte i`ve seen concerning Joe Strummer.

Another thing...what`s your problem with "english musicians" ?

  • It's not shit pal - I've seen plenty of Mescaleros videos on here. Sales mean nothing really. The Village People still sell too - but I won't be buying. English musicians? They've lost their way IMO.

  • Mmmmm...you`re just bitter because England and the rest of the UK have invented every musical trend going where the rest of the world has followed for the last 45 years !

  • ...Apart from Rap and Hip-Hop of course.

    (Smiley Face)

  • ...But Apache by The Shadows was credited and heavily sampled by the early Hip-Hop bands for it`s outsanding back-beat !

  • The Shadows simply covered US hits of the day. They were kind of a poor man's 'Ventures' - Surf Rock at it's finest.

  • The UK invented every musical trend in the last 45 years...? How about the counterculture/hippie music, garage rock, punk (sorry, but it started with bands such as MC5 and The Stooges, and then The Ramones, then The Sex Pistols and Clash followed thereafter), doo-wop, soul, disco, new wave, hair metal, grunge, hip-hop, etc etc... The UK contributed only psychedelic and progressive rock, and maybe a few (less notable) others.

  • Yep, that's about right. Although it could be said the Beatles started the Psychedelic thing with Sgt. Pepper - but then there are music historians who would even dissagree with that notion...

  • Sorry..hair metal ?

Uk invented New Wave my non passport holding american amigo...along with New Romantic, Rave, Trip/Hop, Garage, Drum n Bass,2 Tone, Goth, New Rave and countless others.

Lets also not forget the fact that we were hearing Black American music on our mainstream radio airwaves a long time before mainstream `Radio USA` and that the true basis of modern music originated from Africa !

  • Rave? Trip Hop? Goth? New Rave?! Shit, the UK can have those genres. Actually, do me a favor and keep all that crap on your side of the Atlantic. Oh, and I actually have my passport. Nice try though.

  • Huh? The Brits invented blues? Nope. Rock N Roll? Nope. Punk? Nope. Soul? Nope. Hey, britain has produced some great bands over the last 40 years or so, I agree - but since Radiohead - nothing really stands out. I wish it were different...

  • not just britain, i dont think the us has produced anything stand out either recently...

  • beautiful. I'm at a loss for words.

  • Caro Joe, resterai per sempre nel mio cuore. riposa in pace.

  • This is such an honest and truthfu song - Joe described it as "I cry from the heart for some level of truth".

    RIP Joe!!

  • best new wave song EVAH

  • This song is so awesome and John From Cincinnati is the best show ever.

  • joe monad...

  • I always thought that this band was pretty special.

  • Pause at 1:43-1:44 = beautiful

  • Is was true now no longer so?

Joe was true. He's true now.

  • R.I.P "PUNK ROCK WARLORD"

  • man!!! it hurtz me everytime i watch this

hope me made it to heaven!!!

  • Are you kidding? OF COURSE HE MADE IT TO HEAVEN!

  • i wept like a baby when i first heard this song... the message, and the sincerity with which is delivered just bum rushes the soul...

    bless you, joe strummer!

  • Rough start, and the guitar tech has a great save. Then it takes off from there. Fantastic.

  • an enduring song and legacy great song writer and will be eternally missed. R.I.P, MY FREIND

  • oh joe.. we miss you. LEGEND<3

  • Great performance. One of your finest. I drink to your memory Joe -RIP

  • How often do you see such great performances like this on tv? Loved it<3

  • great man..great music

  • Ahhh! Where's Joe's sweet Tele?

  • Great performance Joe! He proves he's a legend here, though it's not 1977 anymore. I miss you Joe.

  • this song brings tears to my eyes

  • just bloody listen to the man you fools

  • Sorry, furs—that was harsh. Just saying you have to embrace a whole life, not just part of one. You know, phoney Beatlemania has bitten the dust ...

  • Nobody is 25 forever—Joe would be the first to tell you to grow the fuck up. Arrested adolescence is for losers.

And that Letterman performance was fantastic.

  • . Joe Strummer is a fantastic and inspirational musician. I guess Joe Strummer will be the man I remember and admire from "Rude Boy" and not John Mellor from Letterman. Don"t get me wrong, Joe Strummer will be in my heart and soul forever.

As I age, I can't watch him do the same. Joe Strummer will 25 forever and I hope so shall we.

    don"t

  • I haven't gotten ridiculous enough yet to take offense over such a thing.I just perfer to beleive Joe was botulism(that's what botox is -eww) free.

    * I am neither naive nor a boy

  • Hello young naive person. If your brow doesn't move after the age of 50, it's botox, son. Please don't take offense. As I recall ...didn't sleep much and either. And wasn't on network t.v., so therefore can't judge. Joe looks grand.

  • Dear blasphemer, I meant 'no it doesn't look like Joe had any botox'.

  • @TheClash1985 haha c'mon. he didn't even take care of his teeth. He could give two shits about botox. Long live em'!!!

  • No , it doesn't what?

  • Don't wish to blaspheme: Doesn't Joe look like he had some botox?

  • lol,NO IT DOESN'T!!!!

  • guns of brixton changed my outlook on life gotta love joe strummer and the mescaleros too amazing band so together

  • Joe and Lemmy are the greatest musicians of all time!

  • God Bless Joe Strummer Such a Great Song

  • The clash were always my fave band...London calling always my fave album...until i heard Global a go-go...what a great record that was....Joe was a true pioneer !

  • RIP joe

  • true classic individual...this song is amazing.....joe lives

  • thanks joe...saw him live on his last american tour....was true, passionate, real to the end

  • Does anyone know where I could get this is in a higher resolution mpg?

  • I haven't met a person yet who doesn't like this song.

  • joe always had something to say, and it was always from the heart.

  • who was the idiot that marked this video as inappropriate---jerk

  • I know it I emailed youtube about it - never expecting a reply, which i didn't get. There's some sketchy videos on this site but certainly Joe Strummer rockin' out singing about being good to the environment doesn't qualify.Maybe it was some ass who works for Exxon!

  • I keep seeing it this kind of thing over youtube, even for a 50s clip of Gene Vincent, and there's never seems any real reason for it. Just some jerks out to annoy others or some real prudes. Alas I'm guessing that youtube don't bother to check videos when someone flags them and in this case it's an insult to a great man :(

  • Thank you so much for sharing that video......I've never seen that performance before........IT WAS AWESOME ! JOE WAS UNCANNY ! I hate the fact that he died. I love the Clash.....But I think I love Joe's Solo Stuff even more.

  • Fine !

  • He was such an amazing man.
