Joe shouldn't have been playing at david letterman's show....he should have played concerts with hundreds of thousands of persons. It's so sad he was no longer as well known as when he was in the clash. But his fans will always no that he was a true hero. We can just feel terrible sorry we are no longer his contemporans.
Beautiful, the man is a genius. The guitar throwing is a throwback to the old clash. Johnny Green was the catcher, Check out his book or utube stories. RocknRoll Joe x
Just watched The Future is Unwritten on sundance, heard this song for the first time and was absolutely blown-away. 50 years from now my great grand kid will hear this music and experience the same feelings. Joe's contribution to the world is priceless and his art is timeless.
I followed The Clash for 2 weeks on the Give Em Enough Rope tour in the summer of 78 as a 17 year old, i met Joe several times then. He had a very natural warmth about him and he was a great man..that`s still my impressions of him 30 years later.
what a guy had a chance to meet joe when we did some work on his "rock against the rich"tour a few years ago we went to a party down larklane (liverpool)instead big regret! greatness in music is so rare these days johnny cash john lennon neil young joes up there with them rip joe say hi to me dad.
i think this was like one of his last performances,he died dec. 22 '02 i think. it's so sad...i miss him so very much..great great musician!!he's a legend!
I totally admire Joe - and The Clash of course...but the 'Mescaleros'? Every single thing I've seen them do with Joe sucked Big-Time. Nothing personal, but you can't put a bunch of young, english musicians with a guy like Joe Strummer and expect something special - it just ain't gonna happen. Sad too. I wonder what Joe was thinking exactly???
Joe believed he still had something to say, and he wanted a new way to say it. He didn't want to get stuck in a rut, like some people do (see Axl Rose...)
Yeah - I agree. He still had plenty to say - and we need him saying it now more than ever. Axl Rose?? I wouldn't even use that guys name in the same breath as Joe's... :)
It's not shit pal - I've seen plenty of Mescaleros videos on here. Sales mean nothing really. The Village People still sell too - but I won't be buying. English musicians? They've lost their way IMO.
Mmmmm...you`re just bitter because England and the rest of the UK have invented every musical trend going where the rest of the world has followed for the last 45 years !
The UK invented every musical trend in the last 45 years...? How about the counterculture/hippie music, garage rock, punk (sorry, but it started with bands such as MC5 and The Stooges, and then The Ramones, then The Sex Pistols and Clash followed thereafter), doo-wop, soul, disco, new wave, hair metal, grunge, hip-hop, etc etc... The UK contributed only psychedelic and progressive rock, and maybe a few (less notable) others.
Yep, that's about right. Although it could be said the Beatles started the Psychedelic thing with Sgt. Pepper - but then there are music historians who would even dissagree with that notion...
Uk invented New Wave my non passport holding american amigo...along with New Romantic, Rave, Trip/Hop, Garage, Drum n Bass,2 Tone, Goth, New Rave and countless others.
Lets also not forget the fact that we were hearing Black American music on our mainstream radio airwaves a long time before mainstream `Radio USA` and that the true basis of modern music originated from Africa !
Rave? Trip Hop? Goth? New Rave?! Shit, the UK can have those genres. Actually, do me a favor and keep all that crap on your side of the Atlantic. Oh, and I actually have my passport. Nice try though.
Huh? The Brits invented blues? Nope. Rock N Roll? Nope. Punk? Nope. Soul? Nope. Hey, britain has produced some great bands over the last 40 years or so, I agree - but since Radiohead - nothing really stands out. I wish it were different...
. Joe Strummer is a fantastic and inspirational musician. I guess Joe Strummer will be the man I remember and admire from "Rude Boy" and not John Mellor from Letterman. Don"t get me wrong, Joe Strummer will be in my heart and soul forever.

Load of shyte man, the 2 albums he did with The Mescaleros were, are and STILL decent sellers in the UK.
I take it you have`nt heard them because if you had you wouldn`t have posted the biggest shyte i`ve seen concerning Joe Strummer.
