Julia Sawalha! My most favorite English actress! Never been so much impressed by any other though have seen all the top rated period dramas and movies! She fits and sparkels in the character of Dorcas Lane like a perfectly cut diamond!
@djstarlet82 Not actually "English"..her father, the great actor Nadim Sawalha, was Arabic. Speaking as a mixed race person myself i was always told in the UK that one had to be pure Anglo-Saxon to be termed "English".
@taildragger53 I understand but I thought that ethnicity was something that is "personal" to the person, hence when people are asked, there could "feel English". E.g. If you're a Japanese and have lived in the UK, is it possible for you to state that you "feel" more English than you are Japanese?
Ok this interviewer needs to STOP TALKING! She answers her own questions and interrupts Julia every 7 seconds! She needs to be fired. Or the director in her ear telling her to move it along needs to be fired.
@JGT30....but JULIA herself is British and she did not talk 'fast'. I have plenty of family across the pond and none of them talk as fast as this interviewer did. I have to disagree. She was rushing the interview.
It seems as though the interviewer is trying to rush Julia through this interview. It would be nice if she could relax a bit and slow her talking so it is not so rushed. Julia is great and I am glad she talked about the raw food recipes. I hope they continue making Larkrise for a good long while. :0)
And she'd probably make up a lie (for attention) that she was pregnant, then asks her friends to be godmothers and eventually tells them she had a miscarriage. I think that's the sort of teenager Lydia would be.
The way I imagined Lydia if she lived in this century, she would be a fan of shopping, clubbing and going to the cinema, she'd be reminded frequently to put her mirror and hairbrush and make-up case away in lessons. She'd be a heavy smoker and drunk every weekend (probably wouldn't live very long), and would say something like: "My mum says if I get pregnant while I'm at school I'm grounded forever."
Lydia is my favourite character in Pride and Prejudice because of Julia. Her laughter was contagious, and she had springy curls dancing round her shoulders and her merry eyes sparkled and shone. If the cats in my stories were people, my cat Susie would be just like a 21st Century version of Lydia.
I get to watch Lark Rise on my local PBS station here in the States, but we're a season behind. I've just watched the ep. where the beautiful milk maid seems to have a thing for Alf.
Lydia Bennet, the ONLY woman ever forgiven in nineteenth century literature for living with a man before marriage grew up and turned into the lovely Dorcus Lane.
I LOVE LARK RISE! Haha, my mum got the first two series for Christmas and just recomended it to me - so i watch it - AND I'M ADDICTED! Haha...only problem is I haven't seen the third series yet so I have to wait for it to come one DVD Waa!
She looks like a cross between Tina Fey and Gillian Anderson
