  • HOLY SHIT HOROWITZ OCTAVES @ 8:05!

  • HappyWandy457, as far as virtuosity in music is concerned, there is a great danger to get - as listener and interpreter - in a mood of obstruse discoragement. That happens when virtuosity is confused with music contents! In comparison: Your faith in God is no better through your actions, but only when you be thankful to God about HIS actions. Never forget: Musik is art!

    Hans Fröhlich - Germany

  • to everyone comparing to fantasie impromtu.. why compare? If anything compare to Carmen Fantasie you can find a version played by horowitz on here.

  • Bennett is a great showman

  • aiuto ........

  • I played this at my undergrad audition 7 years ago. Love this piece.

  • Stunning performance. Destined for a great future. Bravo!

  • wow this kid's brilliant.

  • @davidovich00 These are very old videos. He's way out of college now! But yes, he's very brilliant!

  • Absolutely beautiful. Great performance and technique. Greetings from Argentina.

  • YouTube Sensation!

  • jablonsky best version... ._.

  • I hate all these comments about bragging how hes 15. Do you know How long hes been playing the piano for? I would say a good 7-8 years, being that he played Chopins waltz at age 6. Its not like he started a year ago and hes playing Chopin Scherzo. Of course it is well played and I bet you in 15 years hell grow to this piece and play it even better. So please calm the fuck down that hes 15, and try to think about the facts. Anyone who has played for 8 years and studies well can tackle this piece.

  • @Martel211996 Not anyone can play this piece in all their lives.

  • @Martel211996 uhm no - not anyone. I played for more than 10 years and still nowhere near this piece...

  • If do not know how to play a song, let it not even trying to play. And besides, so what he was 15 years old. My friend is playing this now and he is 13, and he is beautiful, because musically in contrast to this boy. Something terrible. Just horror. It's horrible. I don't know what to say. OMG :[

  • I THINK WITH THIS!!!!!! He was INFLUENCED by Vladimir Horowitz!!!! It says it all with the doubl ehanded Chromatic Scales such as V Horowitz did in EVERY live and studio recording! WELL DONE MAESTRO BENNTETT!

  • I'm playing this right now and I'm 15.

Luckily, im in my early age of 15, so hopefully i can finish this song before i turn 16.

But having such clarity at a rather high tempo is challenging

    impressive performance this vid.

    5 stars

  • @essboarder23

I hate to correct you but in classical music, a scherzo is not a song. A song is a vocal work, not a piano piece.

  • @cstamitz Thanks for the correction.

A friend of mine always made the same correction

    :D

  • @essboarder23 yes i play this now and am 7 luckily you must practice pedal changes

  • good effort

  • man with 15 .WAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOoo.

He plays the whole day piano or the half day

  • This is way more difficult than fantaisie impromptu.

Im playing fantaisie impromtu right now, Its as hard as i thought. And i attempted to play this scherzo, but i just fail! It's really more difficult!

  • What's more difficult, Fantasie Impromptu or this Scherzo?

  • the only really difficult thing about the impromptu is the 3 against 4 and 2 against 3 pattern throughout the entire piece; as for the scherzo, idk.....

  • Yeah, the impromptu still sounds fantastic despite of these!!!! LOL

  • i just finished using the fantasie at the state competition and starting this scherzo xD the scherzo is harder: faster speed, and technique wise. the problem with me and the fantasie was that my right forearm tensed up everytime i played the section moving towards the slow part. hanon and scales should be practiced everyday if you are to try the scherzo :)

  • @paopaomanalansan this scherzo

  • I I would have liked to hear Horowitz playing this scherzo at his 15 years... This boy is amazing. Anyhow, comparing one musician to another is impossible and it is in vain. It doesn`t make any sense, because every interpretation has its own subjectivness.

  • Right :-)

  • would say he is technically good... the notes of this piece is in my head already but i'm having a hard time playing it... hehehehe...

  • best argument ive seen in a while in favor of the NRA.

  • fantasie impromptu and this song are seperated by leaps and bounds...lol get the music

  • hmm i can play fantasie improptu and compared to this song its so easy, this kid is great!

  • Incredible technique. I love Sean Bennett! What talent!

  • all u critisising 1st try playing the fukin oiece and then critisise

  • I lol'd. Try speaking english.

  • Technically 'lol'' is not English

  • im 11 and i played fantasie impromptu, its not very good. A lot of note mistakes and he can really work on his musicality

  • You can hardly say this lacks musicality.

  • "Eat my dust!" said Bennett as he beat Horowitz by a full 2'20", leaving the old master reeling...

  • You need to check the fact before saying anything.

This performance is 8'12'' long, Horowitz's one was 8'22''. Do your maths.

Also, the middle part (slower part), Bennett did about 3'05'', Horowitz did about 3'15''. You just can't say Bennett has more speed than Horowitz.

  • He also skipped some repeats in the score that Horowitz didn't.

  • show us please, onegeishimas !!!

  • Fuck, that's all I have to say, fuck

  • My friend plays this and he's 13

  • does age really matter???

Well, does he play the song good? Post a video of your friend, I wanna hear him play.

  • I never said age matters, I am simply pointing out that my friend is 13 and plays this piece. If they wanna brag about age, I will brag too! and yes, he plays it well.

  • merveilleux!!! ça fait du bien à l'ame humaine...

  • incredible, he plays as if he were not for this world

  • it would be better if he didnt have played on this shitty piano..but hes good

  • WOW A Horowitz GENUIS! He should Play of the RACHMANINOFF HOROWITZ SOnata No.2 with extended tremelo! 5 Stars!!

  • brilliant young performer. although music to this caliber can be a haunting obsession and sometimes a curse. when i was his age and younger i was very obsessive toward my guitar, and composition studies. makes for great music, but slowly the music becomes the only thing that matters. the world dissapears. :)

  • Chopin est malade de la tuberculose, voila pourquoi c'est mauvaise interprétation

  • piccola curiosità: quanto tempo studi?

  • Young Horowitz))

  • with the wonderful Horowitz ending...:-)

  • What the hell? That fancy octave thing is definitely unacceptable butchering.

  • Yes, when I first heard this nd hadn't ever seen the score, I was like "that's definitely not Chopin...". I don't like it either. It's something great to see and play but it's a non-Chopin technique.

  • i'm 15 and he's so much better than me that it makes me depressed.

  • It should make you so depressed that you want to become so great that he will faint at your virtuosity. I play a instrument as well and when ever i see someone play better than me i channel my emotions to want to be better than i already am. Try doing that and not get discouraged.

  • You're not alone - I'm probably worse than you. Some of my friends that are 15 could probably impersonate Lang Lang or Evgeny Kissin already. I, on the other hand, would probably get egged onstage.

  • i was headbanging then whole time

  • beautiful!

  • Chopin (being the great improviser he was) would often change his own pieces as he was playing them. You can find different scores of his music with different notation. Of course there is what we have come to accept as the standard, but it wouldn't surprise me if Chopin wrote 12 different version of this and that this kid took one of the less common scores.

There is also the possibility that HE changed it lol, as you guys said before.

  • Very good!

    You pronounce it SKERZO!

    Many people pronounce it wrong!

  • spastic..

  • Respect!

  • the llama produces milk at sunset

  • the wet dog sighs by the dry fire

  • Lol seriously. He probably changed it a bit, I noticed some minor tweaks here and there. Also the ending was a different chord

  • What did he do to the chromatic scale at the end?

  • It's part of the piece.

  • It looks like he was playing octaves with his right hand there

  • Yeah that's what I thought...the first person who replied was useless....I'm looking at the music and I just see a 2 handed chromatic scale...

  • great interpretation and technical execution for being so young!

  • more potential for this piece then some top concert artist

  • oh my God! 15 freaking years old!!! interesting interpretation as well! never heard one like this! the kids a straight up genious!!!!!!

  • Oh ! The boy who has big capreolate hands. ^o^

    Great !

  • Let us here your version of Chopin's Scherzo in Bm

  • Wow......he is a genius !

  • I LOVE the way he plays and his motions are just perfect. Never too much. Just right!

    What an awesome performance!

    BRAVO!

  • I used to play this piece. Not bad for a 15 years old, very controlled and quite expressive, excellent job.

  • yehey chopin ^__^

    i like scherzos

  • so young for understand this piece

  • Phenomenal talent, no doubt. But not my favourite interpretation of the song by any stretch.

  • I couldn't stop watching solely because of his rich facial and body expressions...so interesting.

  • Sharp young man.

  • What about the performance of Yundi Li?

  • HECK YES!

    i love yundi li! =D

  • dayummmmmm

  • i don't like the last cromatic scale...it's suonds litzian...good however...

  • I'm 13 and I've just started this piece -.- And I can barely play it to 00:50 D: doubt I ever will end up playing like you! Best playing of this Scherzo on Youtube so far!

  • So stylish... acting like a professional pianist.

  • wow

  • Love your dynamic. When I listen to this piece, I will always be reminded of how much fire it presents.

  • if this is sean who posted this video, do you have any tips on how to play this song? im just about the same age as you, how many hours do you practice a day?

  • What a prodigy. He plays very difficult pieces really well. I´m amazed and please Sean upload new videos whenever you can. I really enjoy your playing

  • Best rendition of this Scherzo 1 on youtube by FAR!

  • That was amazing. I'm attempting to learn this piece and I've basically got the notes down, with a tempo of 80. ._.;'

  • brilliant, i cant wait to see you in years to come.

  • I've seen more current vids of him. It's like shock and awe!

    (^o^)

  • gorgeous. my friend is a piano major at Interlochen and she's playing this song. although i don't like classical, i've fallen in love with this Scherzo ^_^ Chopin's music is the hardest for me to play, so i can only enjoy listening *sigh*

  • Wow...a child prodigy. Are going for a piano major?

  • um, read this guy's bio, lol
