I don't mind this version. She did a better cover of it that I've heard before. With that said, the version from Etta is more of a smooth and more enjoyable song to me. With that said, this is modern, and it's good for those who like this sort of thing, but there's just too many vocal acrobatics here for me to like it more than the Etta James version.

@antisocialist87 fair enough :) The thing about all the covers beyonce did of Etta's songs is Beyonce didn't exactly copy everything about them. She kept the general tone of the songs, but she still sang them like Beyonce & I'm grateful that she did sing them b/c I honestly wouldn't have known about Etta James or the majority of these songs if not for beyonce & that would've been a damn shame :)

I think that it's extremely unfortunate that a lot of people wouldn't know about a lot of R&B's biggest names without someone famous from today coming in and covering things. Etta James is incredible. She's a powerhouse in a different way than Beyonce. As I said in another video, Etta James can bring tears to someone's eyes without having to scream or do much at all. There are those that like Beyonce's approach, and that's good for them, but I personally am not a huge fan of it.

I have listened to Etta James's originals (after I saw Cadillac Records) & they were beautiful in their own way, but so are beyonce's renditions. I don't know if I'd call it screaming, but whatever.
