  • that was quite a lauch, dont blow your tranny now, I think 4k launches are just fine, and I havnt even done much of those with mine. But back to the main point, that e85 tune seems a loooot faster than regular gas.

  • @intj123 you are right. the trannies are pretty week on Evo's but shouldn't have a problem with any clutch that will slip nicely. Also, the E85 made a HUGE difference for the car. I gained about 50 WHP and 50 TQ over 92 octane.

  • Kinda fast for an Evo! How many pounds of boost do u have on that turbo?

  • Its a Greddy blow off valve for the turbo. My stock blow off valve didn't make that sounds. Most aftermarket blow off valves vent to atmosphere which makes them sound like that. I had to change to the aftermarket blow off valve because my stock one was leaking boost like crazy.  It does make a pretty good sound though :)

  • You got it! The car has never shifted the same since i've upgraded the clutch. I've heard that Evo's are pretty notorious for having crappy trannies though!!

    even if the transmission is weak, sheptrans sells built up transmissions/transfer cases that are good for 8's on the 1/4. it's not even that expensive for the built up parts either.

  • Thanks man! I've had some minor boost problems because of my wastegate but that is totally un-related. It has been running great on e85.

  • hahahaha u made everyone that much less intelligent. are u a mechanic or into cars what so ever cause if u are just stop find another perfession. if u find me one cat that makes more power than a straight pipe let me kno. also the light comes on because the 02 sensor is reading high voltage due to the cat. you put a spacer on it and it goes away. and that has nothing to do with shifting, evo trans have shit syncros and input shaft bearings, therefore harsh shifting issues.

In N/A applications a cat, which cause back-pressure, can increase the power output lower in the rev range, now unless the engine is tuned to be a supra-dupra top end screamer... what's that extra 2-3 hp at the last 250rpm gonna get you that the extra 2-3 that you get from 1200 - 5000 rpm won't give you sooner and for longer?

  • hey not to sound like an idiot but my mate just bought and evo 8 and when we test drove a few (quik shifts) lm no mechanic but makes a big Clunk like the diff or gear box is going to drop lol. this just with all evo's they dont like to be punched into gear or something wrong with all 6 evo's l drove lol if u could give any kind of advice would appreciate :)

  • @Drifter904 stop shifting it like a honda. there not meant to be clutch dropped in between gears. put nlts on it and the bang will go away or a driver mod?

  • Do you have that problem with the car going into gears all the time? Every so often my evo won't go into second gear, sometimes 3rd, if I wind it out all the way and I was wondering if I do have a synchro issue or if it's normal

  • I sure do! Very common in Evos from what I am told. It was fine until I put in an aftermarket clutch. The shop that did all of my work did everything that they could to make shifts as smooth as possible, but they said that Evo tranny's can be a little week especially after mods. They end up rebuilding a lot of Evo trannys

  • Not great. I would say I average 12 - 15 mpg not driving it too hard. E85 is much cheaper than premium though so it is close to averaging out.  I got great power and torque gains from being able ot run more boost also so it was well worth it for me to switch.

  • LOL I hear ya man! It was especially a problem when I switched to a 6 puck clutch. The evo tranny doesn't seem to like that clutch very much. Maybe not the best choice but what do you do :). I'm running 1000cc injectors with the E85. What else do you have done to your wrx?

  • It does say SERICE ENGINE SOON. Its just kind of funny, he is trying to show us how fast his car is and he has a service light on. In my experience that light doesnt come on until you have gone past the oil change due time. Take better care of your car.

  • At least I don't have any service lights on in my car. The computer in his car thinks something is wrong, hence the service light. I understand it is making more power w/o the cat and I'd love to do the same thing to my car but I am not going to screw up my computer by doing something like take the cats off. He is missing at least 1 O2sensor now also and that thing probably doesn't run quite right. Removing cats is a radical change. Get the computer updated.

  • Is it BEcause of the exhaust? Why? Its a sweet car I will admit that, and fast too especially running on E85, but why is the light on then? The PCM turns on the light for a reason. Everyone here tells me I am stupid but no one has told me why the light is on yet. I like the way you guys refer to it as a "performance light" Also my Mom doesn't have an Accord and do you have to curse? You're the first peron here to drop the F-bomb.

  • My bad, i was just really excited! Without the cat the exhaust is flowing completley differently and its throwing the senor off. It does not hurt anything and can usually just be deleted with a tune.  Which they later did i think.

  • Its not even just evos, Most cars will throw a light when the cat is removed. Even like on my car, when i installed headers i removed the EGR and it threw a ses light. Had my Pcm custom tuned and had the code deleted. again..sorry for the blow up!

  • ditch the m3 body and dump that engine in a e30, with suspension, posi, intake, exhaust, and a tune, you will love your bwm. My friends brother did that set up and that little car TEARS shit up. its also gutted with a roll cage... and i think he has the e36 or whatever the engine code is(which i think is the mid to late 90s m3, correct me if im wron im a mazda guy not so much into bmw but they def my 2nd favorite cars.)

  • I have am running the stock ECU and stock ECU's often don't like mods. It is generally because of the exhaust (taking out the emissions controls). It is reading that it has an emissions problem. There are no issues with the car.

  • For a tune on E85, I would of assumed bigger turbo and the whole nine, I take it that is a stock turbo car?

  • yes, stock turbo and intercooler for now. video was taken in 95 degree temp and high humidity. Other mods are HKS 280 cams, injectors, intake, exhaust, and boost controller. I'm probably just going to do a 50 trim and an intercooler in the spring.

  • Just toss a 35r on that and never look back, it will work just fine with your cams.

  • I've thought about that, but I thought that I wouldn't get even half of the potential of a 35r without modifying my internals?

  • The 35r is a really laggy turbo for the evo. Most people use a stroker motor with that turbo. With the cams your running, I wouldn't doubt you could run into the low 12's. Nice pull

  • Thanks man. If I do decide to run a 35r, I will do the stroker kit also. I'm guessing somewhere in the low 12's also. I am going to bring it to the track for the first time this spring. I will post my times after I take it to the track
