  • I arrived here because of Elliott Smith's song Waltz #2. This is very upbeat though, unlike Elliott's (amazing) music. I enjoyed this song! :D

  • My dad got me into these and i love there music. This is my fav tho!

  • THESE GUYS TEACH ME TO SING .I WILL NEVER EVER STOP LOVING DON AND PHIL.

  • I'm 16 and The Everly Brothers are my favourite band :)

  • This song makes me happy... I'm not alone!

  • The harmony is the best, and I dont think anyone can challenge it.

  • I guess they are singing it LIVE here....and doing a fine job as always.

  • Great song by them - what a excellent duo they are.

  • Omigod I'm so flipping OLD! Takes me back to the spring of 1960 - leaving Paris by train, to catch a boat at Dieppe. Alan Haynes (God bless ya, Alan!!) taught us this song and a group of us sang it (among others) to entertain ourselves on the voyage. Don't remember any of the OTHER songs - but no matter. Cathy's Clown has stayed in my memory f-o-r-e-v-e-r. Whoever said "nobody could sing it better" - right on! Thanks for the memory.

  • takes me back to a better time in the world. thank heavens for the everly brothers. they are still the best.

  • @fastmod3 Sorry to intrude but you sound like a contemporary. The first time I ever worked up never enough to walk across a dance floor and asked a girl to dance it was at a sock hop and they were playing Cathy's Clown. I'm not sure it was a better time but I certainly miss those days.

  • @fastmod3 You mean like the beginning of the Viet Nam war?

  • this song was released 33 years before i was born : )

  • This song was released 1 year before I was born. I LOVE IT!

  • It gets me mad when people think John Lennon wrote this amazing song

  • Hey jude

  • Guys used to be so handsome... What happened? :( Love the song with my generation could grow up and learn what real music is. :/

  • @kari900 don't you look different or have you not aged at all!?!?!? Yes, they aged. But thankfully we have their music. Their looks should have nothing to do with that.

  • @kari900 Yeah it's only been like 50 years XD I thought they'd look the same hah

  • my grandmothers name is Kathy and when she was dating my gradfather people would go up to him and sing this song!

  • How Could Anyone Not Like The Everly Brothers... Thank God Phil&Don Get In To Music. Thanks For The Great Memories.......

  • LEGENDARY AND SACRED ARE THEY

  • sweet!

  • I WAS Cathys' clown. I wouldn't have sex with her. I was brought up that way.

I was 17,she was 16.She dumped me. No regrets, but I sometimes wonder how she is doing. This song was a hit during that time.

  • what he said! they are amazing when it comes to evening eachother out, Beautiful melodys and voices. and i love how they sound the same on a CD or recording as they do live, its their natural voices that are beautiful, no help needed.

  • Nobody could sing better than the Everly Brothers, not even Lennon & McCartney even though they came very close! Don & Phil were both natural tenors. Don being the 'dramatic' tenor & Phil the 'lyric' tenor.

  • @YesterdayProductions You know, when you start trying to say someone was the best or better, you do a great disservice to the era. Can you imagine if all of these artists had a criteria to determine who was best? Everything would have sounded the same, like it does today. Today's artists are conforming to a criteria! There is enough competition in the USA, leave the great music of the 1960's out of it. There were so many GREATS!

  • i was cathy's clown? but it felt good to me?

  • i know from las vagas and kool105.1

  • *sings along*

  • PHIL EVERLY explained:

"Don and I are infamous for our split, but we're closer than most brothers.

Harmony singing requires that you enlarge yourself, not use any kind of suppression.

Harmony is the ultimate love."... Erik aka Ricky Teal

  • well 4 people are cunts...

  • One of the best songs by these geezers.

  • @danthegeezer86 is that an insult !?

  • @bobluman4 You asked my brother 2 months ago is that an insult when he said this is one of the best songs by these geezers well he has told me to say no it wasnt an insult.

  • @thegeezerdan i thought it was when he called them geezers not the best name to call these music heros

  • @bobluman4 No it is not the best name to call them you are right.

  • amazing harmonies... BIG influence on me...... make me wanna play rock and roll... .. seroius rock and roll

    .......pure rock

  • amazing harmonies... BIG influence on me...... make me wanna play rock and roll... .. seroius rock and roll

  • @falldogbombsthemoon I'm Jennifer's clown

  • I've known a few clown's in my time, these guy have beautiful voices.

  • alle filmpjes zijn leuk goede muziek vroeger beter als nu

  • Such talent! And this is a fabulous clip! Thank you!

  • they were millionaires when they were still in theyre teens

  • You can hear the how the Everly bros had an influence on the Beatles early music.

  • Fantastic tune!

  • 4 people are clowns

  • where all someones clown, im jessicas clown. You guys?

  • @falldogbombsthemoon im Sophies clown.

  • They are now in their 70's and they are still cute. They atill harmonize just as wonderfuly.

  • I came out of Aylestone Swimming Baths and walked towards the main Aylestone Road Leicester, and as I passed the school I saw it was Youth Club Night and everybody was dancing to Cathy's Clown --Fantastic sound --beautiful sight! I shall never forget both.

  • I grew up with the Everly Brothers. They were the best!! I'm sad that they have retired. We all get old but we still have our wonderful memories of great music in the past!

Long live the Everly Brothers "Don and Phil"

  • @jlm1222 I saw that Phil is in his 80's & Don is in his 70's!

  • A #1 hit for The Everly Brothers on both the Top 40 and the Rhythm & Blues charts. It was the 65th #1 R&B song of the Rock Era.

  • anybody know what this song isabout?

  • happy Birthday Phil!

  • Best singing duo ever!!

  • The Everly Brothers so beautiful...i`m glad i heard and saw them once life here in Twintowns Service Club...in Coolangatta in 1998....

  • They were great but the Beatles knocked them out of the box. Compare to the Beatles "She Loves You, " live version, on YouTube.

  • This song was 50 years ago no.4 in the world year-end-charts #everly #brothers

  • cool music

  • I just love this song but I,ve got a better version with the brothers at home.

  • The voices on these guys never ceases to floor me. Incredible :)

  • I was once a literal "Cathy's Clown".

Now I am one of a person called Nina ... except this time round there is serious fight back. Clown no more.

Yes I will always love/care about females (and children) but I have had it with ...

My current "Cathy" - actually Nina - is now under charge of making death threats against me.

    All in the public domain.

I was an "abused husband" for some twelve years and said nothing.

Now I am no 'clown' for any woman.

  • @gerryhiles Um, okay.

  • @gerryhiles Do you really need to tell people all of this?

  • Last 2 seconds actually. Listen.

  • Was I hearing things or did I hear an Electric Guitar Riff and the last Second? I Did Hear an Electric Guitar Riff I did hear one.

  • 4 people don't want your love anymore!

  • there both soo handsome!

  • My sisters name is Kathy, and she sure got a lot of teasing when this song came out.

  • The thing I notice most about music of the 50s & 60s is that it take a person s memories back to their younger days whereas today's music sounds so angry and is about lawlessness and drugs and is very antisocial. I hear a song from the old days and I remember the car I owned when I heard that song, I remember where I was and what was going on in the world. Wonder why so many movies and commercials today use music from the 50s &60s they are pleasant to listen to.

  • LOL!!! The darker haired brother looks like this recipe:

2 cups of a young Michael Landon (when he played Little Joe)

1 teaspoon of a young Johnny Depp (when he was on the cover of the 1991 Rolling Stone)

    Mix well

    Awesome voices!!!

  • @Lovemylife7777777 --oh yes!!! you have the recipe done perfectly

    wouldn't add a thing ! perfection !!!!!!!!

  • I never thought that being 15 and having to go trough such difficult times, I'd be able to relate and cheer up to the sound of this song.

  • This song was 50 years ago no.6 in the world charts

  • Many people are saying "what happened to music?". Big money got involved. They will sell anything if they have all the rights. That means all the copyrights to everything. They market to the people spending the money on recordings. Not you! But they all got a big surprise when that older lady from the UK out sold the young stars on the charts. The older crowd will buy if you give em what they want.

  • People of all ages can enjoy and apperciate this glorious music!

  • They seem a little pissed off at each other... Good song though

  • This song was 50 years ago no.1 in the world charts

  • This song was 50 years ago no.1 in the world charts

  • dons voice is such beautiful

  • This song was 50 years ago no.1 in the world charts

  • This song was 50 years ago no.1 in the world charts

  • This song was 50 years ago no.1 in the world charts

  • This song was 50 years ago no.2 in the world charts

  • This song was 50 years ago no.2 in the world charts

  • I love the Everlys. God that Don was a lanky dark haired wild eyed hunk.

  • This song was 50 years ago no.5 in the world charts

  • second best singers in the world. the 1st best is myself

  • That was nice, seeing them singing one of their hits, Cathy's Clown. King$.

  • I love these guys! They're like the Jonas Brothers, but 50's style!!! I LOVE THEM!

  • hey utubecritic, pre-beatles music was the best, and had the best vocals. i do like the music after the british invasion, but good vocals were replaced with alot of guitars. 50's will always rule

  • its has been a long time i haven't hart of evenly brothers. i enjoy there music

  • I love all the Everly songs but Cathys Clown is my favourite, i love you Don&Phil mwah xx

  • utubemusiccritic talks a crock of shit! I'm a brit - but we havn't produced a duo like this ! Proclaimers are about the best we managed LOL

  • First of all the quality here stinks. That said, you can compare anyone of your Brits and they still would not stand under the singing quality of this duo. The proof should be in the sound. Unfortunately, you can't judge that from this sorry quality.

  • ROCK ONNNN DUDE!!! AMAZING TUNE

  • LOL, love it.

  • Ben,, there

  • They were great but were blown away by the British Invasion, along with Frankie Avalon, Bobby Vinton, Paul Anka, Ricky Nelson, and Bobby Vee. Now play "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and hear why.

  • Beatles?? Everly copies BY THEIR OWN ADDMISSION!!

  • @heezabirddog

Lol thats what i thought when i first heard them

but then there was a huge difference The Everlys dont suck

Paul McCartney was better off solo and i find it hilarious how Johns Ringos and Georges careers went down the toilet while Paul became one of the most commercially sucessful songwritters of all time

  • @utubemusiccritic

--and just were do you think they got the harmony teachers from--according to themselves --the Everly brothers--

---sorry but there's no comparison to perfection--not ever!

  • theyre so cute

  • I agree! Only 2 great parents could have created 2 great sons! They have it all, great hair, voices, musical talent, and they are CUTE!

  • way too fast, sounds better on CD and Lennon did a cracking cover too

  • They seem somewhat rushed and tired in this performance

  • I agree, it comes off as if they are flying through the song just to get it over with.

  • Need some evidence..Me and D.Livingstone are related

  • Comment removed

  • You and your post about this song is why I love the YouTube...

    Thats awesome.

  • Hey Tweeker, hows-a-come we always seem to end up listenin' to these same songs? You gotcha some good darn taste in Music there, a don't-ya? And if ole Wilcoe is a shootin' straight, why I agree about this here YouTube, it's the best!

  • god, this is great.

  • My mom plays these kinds of songs every day, and it makes ME want to go back to the 60s!! I absolutly love this music, along with Jonny Mistro (not sure if i spelled his name right) the Beatles, and many, many, MANY more! Love the song!

  • This song is brilliant! I'm 27 and if I could go back to the late 50's early 60's I would. Just for the music!............... Oh and the cars as well. lol

  • That's my dad's philosophy as well...We were watching American Grafitti about a month ago, and every minute, I'd say "That's a fantastic song!" and he'd say "That's a fantastic car!" We remember nothing of the movie except the music and the cars. XD

  • I'd bet the Beatles could have done a brilliant cover of this song, too. All those lovely harmonies back in the '60s....why don't we have that anymore?

  • i agree!

    what ever happened to music?

  • it changed in a bad way if you ask me... do you ever hear a song that's about honest true love anymore? no now its all about money and heart break and how they cheated and everything else under the sun but you hardly hear an honest to goodness song like this anymore...

  • Um, this song is about heartbreak.

  • we do

  • TO EB84: Why do you tell us this. We don't give a shit who wrote it. Just enjoy the song. Somebody has to alway try and be one up on everybody else.

  • This one is probably my favorite Everly Brothers song. Thank you for posting this. --------Ellen

  • this is the song that got me into music in general,im really glad i started out with music from this era.

now i can listen to anything.

  • When this came out I was going out with a girl named Kathy and she stood me up and finished it most unceremoniously in that cruel way youngsters do. I had to listen to my mates chanting this at me for weeks after!

  • This is from the year i was born!

  • im 16 and this like one of my fav songs ^^

  • @anonymousginger

I'm 66 and this is still one of my fav songs.

  • @anonymousginger ihope you looked at john lennons version then

  • @anonymousginger you´ve got good taste xD

  • @anonymousginger your only 16! i think you deserve a trophy.. it will read "NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR AGE"

  • @SIMPLEman612 dont be like that its good to know young people still like great music hay im only 15 hahaha

  • @SIMPLEman612 Who pissed on your parade? They were just stating that they were young and enjoyed the song. They aren't listening to smut like Kesha.

  • @anonymousginger my dad was 17 travelling in a bmw bike... i was born in 1978... teenage hearthrob days!

  • I love this song!! My mum always used to play it when I was little, and I have always loved it!! & I'm called Cathy, which is probably why she played it so much!

  • @horzpics She sounds like a whiging cat!!! No contest.

  • This song always upset my cousin when he heard it; his girlfriend Kathy sent him a "dear john" when he was in the military in 1968. He could never listen to it after that without crying

  • Timelessly amazing.

  • no Don wrote this for sure.. and it got them out of the soppy stuff (all have to do is dream)..they were superb harmonizers...British Invasion made them look uncool..hear BOWLING GREEN

  • Don wrote the chorus on his own and the verses with Phil Sometime later though Phil signed over the song to Don.

  • What on earth has religion got to do with these two singing a song that was one of the best hits of the 60's

  • @helenmain Well Said. A lot of people tend to go off the point on Youtube with ridiculous arguments. It's just a great song, so enjoy it!

  • people will obey religion more than laws

  • okigil-oh really? and is this your synopsis on the matter? The voice of profound insight speaks, and may we all stand back and say 'Oooooh' as the fuckwit okigil speaks from the bravery and anon.of internet space.

  • hahahahahaha

    precisely.

look how annoyed i made you!

    it's so cute.

  • haha your the only one laughing.

    doucher.

  • Metallicasgirl4eva-well said.

  • This one is real great but it must be a video on YT with better sound quality. I keep on lookin'.

  • If he's sweet how come he didn't give me a voice like that? Christ - if he ever existed that's another question, you had 13 'messias' on the dozen at that time in the middle east - is NOT sweet.

  • dear sweet christ, their crosssharmonizing brilliant magic from their cradle

  • gud song

  • replay... harmonizin with the bros. :D

  • WOW i'm called Cathy XD

  • they don't want you

  • you are a fool

  • wrong - they do want you

  • I love the inflection in his voice at :43 - different from the original studio version (I'm pretty sure)

  • i read you comment, listened to the 43rd second, where he says "aaawall." And if that's what you're talking about, you're right. Amazing sound. Just incredible what he did with such a simple word.

  • Yes, this is indeed what I'm talking about. It's nice to know someone else appreciates the little things too... :-)

  • what an amazing song. I grew up listening to Thw Who, Led Zep and Beatles. I'm new to this - brilliant

  • Absolutely amazing. They just don't make them like this anymore.

    Wonderful talent, wonderful memories.

  • This was the first piece of music that I remember hearing. I must have been about 10 years of age, back in the mid-late 50's. A village, fairground ride, background music. It has stayed with me ever since. So haunting, so beautiful.

  • These guys are soooo good.

Listening to this music brings back so many fond memories of being a kid watching the teens in my family grooving to the EB's
