Elphaba was good but misguided because of her determination not to allow other people to help her. GLENDA was evil, self-absorbed, and vain. Not to mention her outfit in this video is RIDICULOUS ! Read "Wicked" by Gregory Maguire. Rock on Elphaba !

Well, you have to keep in mind that the Oz series that Baum started was started in the 1900s so he wrote during the time period. He was going to start and end with The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz but kids wanted more. So he wrote more for the kids.
Sure they are somewhat corny and boring at times but they're still a classic series.
Not to mention, cannon. Wicked is good, but I tend to think of it more as big-budget fanfiction. Some people can't seem to seperate the two of them, though.

Glinda is a much better character in the musical Wicked. I mean, she takes Elphie, promises to make her popular, and even when Elphie doesn't show any thankfulness, Glinda stays by her side!!! Cut her some slack!!

I don't know what sequel you read but Elphie dies in "Wicked" and she doesn't come back. Fiyero still dead too. The sequel is based on her son, Liir and her brother Shell. Obviously you didn't read it either.
You should learn to read. Nor was writing on the walls and buildings "Elphaba Lives". The spirit of Elphaba lives on even though she didn't. People are now seeing the evil of the Wizard. Elphie saw it and did everything she could to save the Animals. People are learning that she wasn't Wicked, it was the Wizard. So anyway, while Liir is walking around w/ the cape and broom, where is Fabula? Hiding out in Kiomo Ko for all those years? (BTW, the third book is about the Cowardly Lion).

Random: Why? Elphie was insane for the most part and thus, was always a little...messed in the head, but she always strived to do right until she became the very thing she claimed she wasn't (wicked) in order to set things right in her twisted mind.

You're not alone, I HATED the fact of the changed ending at the end of the musical Wicked version, even though im a huge fan of Wicked. The melting is something we all know, love, and fear of Oz. It seemed super cheesy the changed ending.

I happen to be a fan of BOTH and feel that Elphie was nice before Dorothy dropped in, but once Dorothy came, we saw Elphie as the out-of-it of witch she came to be, for after so many failed attempts at proving she wasn't "wicked", she went insane and became "wicked", hence her evilness here (though I think it's all more tied to hurt & jealousy, because Dorothy killed her sister, took the shoes, and stole a certain someone whom Elphie never realized was someone from her past).

I don't know what sequel you read but Elphie dies in "Wicked" and she doesn't come back. Fiyero still dead too. The sequel is based on her son, Liir and her brother Shell. Obviously you didn't read it either.

You should learn to read. Nor was writing on the walls and buildings "Elphaba Lives". The spirit of Elphaba lives on even though she didn't. People are now seeing the evil of the Wizard. Elphie saw it and did everything she could to save the Animals. People are learning that she wasn't Wicked, it was the Wizard. So anyway, while Liir is walking around w/ the cape and broom, where is Fabula? Hiding out in Kiomo Ko for all those years? (BTW, the third book is about the Cowardly Lion).

@Legend28x That was a crane. It wasn't a munchkin hanging himself. Look up the video on youtube. There are some that have close ups of it and you can tell it was a large bird, not a munchkin hanging himself.

Random: Why? Elphie was insane for the most part and thus, was always a little...messed in the head, but she always strived to do right until she became the very thing she claimed she wasn't (wicked) in order to set things right in her twisted mind.

For fans...I'd just say that Elphaba WAS nice and DID go insane to prove her "Wicked"ness. As to her demise, I'd also say that Elphie DID die, but that she--like all witches--will ALWAYS come back, just like in the 90's toon (and later, the musical adaptation of "Wicked").

it's really quite confusing now because when elphaba escaped from the guards and pretended to melt and then she left ... in the wizard of oz nessarose(witch of east) just got killed by the house ( and that happens in wicked AS WELL ??? :S but what i dn't gt it how glinda no's the wicked witch of the west (elphaba is alive) because she thinks she's dead doesn't she?

no wot i mean was.. that at the end of wicked glinda thinks she is dead but she has really gone off with fiyero but then in the wizard of oz she see's her as the wicked witch of the west so she is probs shocked herself.. but before all that she say's that the wicked witch of the west she's worse than the other one was and she doesn't really seem all that surprised its kind of odd

in the book, elphie is evil at the end, and dosent even love her own son, and really does steal toto, and lights her broom on fire to scare dorothy, her dress catches on fire, and dorothy throws the water on her, and it kills her

rebecca: Elphie only became "wicked" after having the term thrust upon her by her former friends and the truly evil Ozian media. After years of fighting, she sort of snapped and went insane, hence her true jump from being "misunderstood" to being utterly "wicked".

isnt that what i just said? the whole purpose of the book is to make you think about why a person becomes what they become. how much do our choices affect our lives and the lives of others? i dont think she ever went insane... but she just never knew how to love, because the only one who knew how to love her was taken so quickly and brutally, then she took that hurt, and turned it to vengance, against everyone, even her own son

You're not alone, I HATED the fact of the changed ending at the end of the musical Wicked version, even though im a huge fan of Wicked. The melting is something we all know, love, and fear of Oz. It seemed super cheesy the changed ending.

Hogworts insted of Shizz. The gang of Griffendor would of helped her stear her powers away from the dark arts and control her hanger besid she would fit in better with all the other odditys that walk theos halls.Meeting Harry Potter she would really be changed for the better

Rollman: Wrong. I happen to be a fan of BOTH and feel that Elphie was nice before Dorothy dropped in, but once Dorothy came, we saw Elphie as the out-of-it of witch she came to be, for after so many failed attempts at proving she wasn't "wicked", she went insane and became "wicked", hence her evilness here (though I think it's all more tied to hurt & jealousy, because Dorothy killed her sister, took the shoes, and stole a certain someone whom Elphie never realized was someone from her past).
