I have a 04 american Strat. when i played it anywhere above the 10th fret it would resonate out of tune, really bad too. i thought something was really wrong with it. When i saw the vid i went and ajusteds the pick ups. now its totally fine, thanks for the advice!! you saved the guitar from sold or destroyed!! HA
When you wire your pickups out of phase the signals are opposite in direction, thus the volume that you're getting is very low. When the volume is at it's lowest in theory the pickups are in balance.
thats a real help and very good. the pick up thing was intresting--i should take a look at my own guitars pickups.
i do have a few problems with my plaging and recording. im trying to play a fast picked section which would be okay if i didnt want it to be heavy. its a distorted guitar but when i pick it it just comes out like a horrid sounding chord. because of the speed its hard to mute as well...hmmmm.
I just lowered the middle pickup on one of my old guitars almost all the way, and i dont plan to use it so it doesnt matter how it sounds (Just using the 2 humbuckers). so my question is: will this disturb the other pickups and/or something else?. Thanks.
humbuckers you can have them cloer then u can single coils cus silg coils pull on narow piece f the string where as humbuckers have two poles pullin on more wider section which is less magnetic pull,, soo I hear.
Question, do you mean when they are on counterphase? Because if they are on the same phase then they would actually addup. Magneticfield=physical force=volume.
I wrote that comment a long time ago and lol is ee the typos i had. but I have no idea what u mean by counter phase all i know is u can have a humbucker up closer to the strings then u can a single coil cus a single coil pulls on a focused section of the string causin it to lose tone by being pulled towards the coil, where as the humbuck pulls in a wider area not so focused so it dont pull on it as much as a single coil would so it would not fall out of tune as much due to the magnetic pull

Wire the neck and middle out of phase and adjust the height to achieve minimum volume. That's how to properly balance them.

what do you mean by out of phase and minimum volume?

@BluPup8 is this balance between pickups themselves or setting the height of one pickup?

I learned a lot from that. It's common sense once it's explained to you. Very cool.

wow,
that pickup adjustment tech tip was really helpful.
i'm just wondering though, would those same concepts apply to humbuckers?
