  • 556. same upper, with a lower that takes valid mags (AR)

  • Don't touch it guys. The Quality Assurance from the Exeter plant is terrible! If you want a sig, get it swissmade.

  • I'm a bit confused... How's this 551a1 differed from the old 551a1 I've seen for so many quarterly CDNN catalogue ?

  • Someone should rename this gun because airsoft reviewers kept using the SIG 551 to promote their junk.

  • Keep up the good work!

  • Like this video 'Right to the point'. Cool gun but don't see picking one up @ 2k!

  • Any FAL videos?

  • Hey nutnfancy keep up the great work! After a year of watching you I finally hit the button and subbed :)

  • How about a tabletop on FN Scar? Thanks, for the vid.

  • Cool, quick, and to the point review. Keeping it real!

  • Thanks for sharing the quick vid!

  • Gun looks kinda strange to me.

  • Ron Paul 2012

  • @ST4leave No thanks........

  • MW4 should have this gun!

  • Cool gun, if it were $500.00. However at 4x that much, I can't see many of those being sold. You can buy a VERY GOOD AR-15 with that much money and trick out and buy ammo. Unfortunately I think this good rifle will be plagued by bad timing, high price, and market conditions. I do think it is cool though, but that is alright. Sig won't be worried about their business or anything. Thanks Nutn!

  • Not a SIG I'm willing to put money into...thanks for the update though bro!

  • Yeah I see what you mean about second kind of cool but for the price and weight I'm not real into it still. It was like when I was buying an AR-15 a couple of months ago. I had the money to get pretty much anything like a nice piston LWRC, HK MR556, FN SCAR, but it seemed foolish to spend up to $2500 on something that for my level and use I don't think I'd really see much difference over the Stag Arms Model 3 that I got. But yeah I can understand if you just dig it.

  • I have the 522 and the new and improved 556R(without issues) and I love this rifle. I'm not into paying 2grand for a gun unless it's a bullpup or something. I paid a total of 1525$ for my other two sig rifles combined. I'm sure the price will adjust and 1300-1500 will be more like the actual price. Thanks for the video nutnfancy

  • Looks cool

  • This firearm needs a run and gun vid and a tabletop......do that for me Nut

  • Nice! Loved the vid. not the price! For that price I could go get one of the LWRC that you just looked at.

  • Want one

  • those are pretty nice rifles. you should do shooting and reviews with sig rifles NF

  • I can see the sec type of cool for the sig 551. it doesn't have the looks like a typical ar 15.

  • My Sig 516 piston AR is still running 100%, trigger is stiff but I love the piston system.

  • For 2 grand that gun is a joke

  • Magazines are around $70 a piece in the US. It's outrageous.

  • @ironcladd1 They're nowhere near that expensive. You can buy the magazines directly from Sig USA for $37.80 each. Also, to echo what others are saying, it typically retails for approx. $1,500.

  • Sig 550 looks a lot better than 551!

  • got a 550 full auto! personal military rifle in switzerland :-) such a great gun! it`s damn heavy, but you get used to it. in swiss military we shoot with 550`s out to 300 meters over iron sights. a good shooter frequently hits a 20 inch plate at 300 yards with it. with scope we train with these guns to shoot out to 700 meters. it`s extremly reliable and never had one hickup after 20000 shots under tough conditions. absolutely love these guns! great short vid nutn, keep it up :-)

  • @nikkthequick84 ups, of course i meant 300 meters :-/

  • I'm just curious, is this rifle new to the US market? The 550, 551 and the 552 have been available in Germany for a long time.

  • @dt3ft2 Yup they sure have but laws in the USA keep the real ones out of civvie hands for the most part.

    Shoot,Move...........Live!!

  • Love to get my hands on one . . . Love to shoot one . . . No plans of ever buying one !!!

So much more out there for that stack of cash !!!

  • I got to say I love the look of this gun and i like sig product, as I would say second kind of cool for me, the problem is the price almost $2000 for that price range I could get an entry level LWRC. Cool gun but a bit expensive and a bit heavy.

  • Original 551-2 (-2 for 7" twist) here. Made in 1989. Great rifle, accurate, dependable, nice ergos. Maybe a bit front heavy, but much better than the 550 with the 20" barrel and the longer gas system. But keep in mind: It's a piston gun design from the 70s/80s therefore it's ok, I guess.

  • I wish they would make the gun lighter and the barrel thicker, where does the high price come from? is it just the name?

  • Tactical Fleshlight is kind of cool, might be illegal in california.

  • I carried a Swiss made 551 SP SWAT model with 14.5 inch barrel on duty for 5 years. Great rifle it is a tad muzzle heavy. But I never minded it due to the help it gives in staying down on target. You need to shoot this rifle in order to see hoe great it is. If this performs as good as the EU made one it will be a great deal for 1600. Over any M-4 and I love the M4. Piston or not the Rock River is not this good Nutn.

    Shoot,Move.........Live!!

  • Too bad I live in Cali and (probably) can't have it.

  • At that weight, I'd want it to be chambered in .308..it IS a looker tho

  • I think $2k go could a lot further on an alternative platform.

  • eoajioncdkzfdvknmld, sorry! had to wipe the cum of my keyboard.

  • This video was too short. After the video was finished I sat there in awe for about 3 minutes just to make it feel longer. All joking aside, I really want one of these, I hope they bring the price point down by $500.00 though. Thanks for the mini review.

  • nutn, you should get a microphone for yourself and leave the camerawork for pfi (or vice versa). it would improve sound quality so much (noise of people talking around is really annoying)

  • Great review but I like the longer videos better. Keep up the good work!!!!! Also I'd rather have a su16c than that. Just my preference

  • I have to lug a SIG 550 around for service, It is too heavy and also too long and is not fully ambidextrous (sling can't be attached on the other side, the sling is awefull too) while you do not get any decent firepower out of it.

Consider this: It was introduced 1990 when the Steyr Aug was already 12 years in service, our army command is useless when it comes to selecting/developing gear.

  • looks rugged, maybe you could use it as a baseball bat when you run out of rounds.

  • Does it take G-36 mags?

  • @GUNSMITH44 No it takes a proprietary sig mag

  • i rather get a galil. same look, same round, same accuracy half the price and more durable. though galil weighs more.

  • Way to rich for my blood

  • Hey Nutn! Great review buddy! How about reviewing a sig p6?

  • Always wanted one of these, although, a little pricey for what it is. I'd be more apt to spend a few extra hundred and pick up a Scar (I love shooting my friends) over this, just because as you said, better ergo's, might be lighter, not sure completely. Hopefully the price drops over time.

  • Shot a friend's Sig 556 over the weekend and it was like a souped up AK in 5.56. The recoil impulse felt like an AK and it was a ton of fun to shoot. We were hitting a 12" plate at 100yds with only a red dot. If not for the price I would be all over one of these.

  • Weight weight weight.... That gun will out Perform and shoot cooler than an AR-15 ANYDAY

  • @Derail07

Actually they don't. Not even close, due to the amount of recoil, keeping the weapon on target is rather a bit of a chore. For some reason Sig choses to never put buffers in the rfiles for some strange reason.

  • You airforce guys sure do complain about weapon weight a lot lol! great vids bro.

  • I´m not a native english speaker. I´ve got a question: In every video they say "second kind of cool" (that´s what i hear?) over and over again.

    What does that mean`Thank you

  • @nomoanymore "Second kind of cool" just means that the product is wanted by one person but not another. For example, you may not like this rifle and think it is the ugliest thing ever, but to Nutnfancy it has a "coolness" factor to it. So if you were to say to him, "Hey, man I don't like your rifle." He can say, "Hey, second kind of cool" and you can't say anything negative about it anymore out of respect. Hope this helps.

  • @Chuy3 Ahh! Thank you very much from Germany

  • @Chuy3 First kind of cool is performance related -i.e. what you get for your money. It is tangible/measurable.

Second kind of cool is personal and subjective. You choose a product over another, possibly measurably superior product simply because you 'dig it' -as long as you were aware of this being the motivation behind your choice then you can't be criticized for it. However if you kid urself into thinking you've chosen it because it's the best bang for the buck and it ain't... =FAIL!

  • @Chuy3 helped me out lol

  • @nomoanymore It's just how you prefer some kinds of things that others don't, kind of like you liking an AK and your friend likes an AR. Its just what you think's cool.

  • @nomoanymore Second kind of cool - Meaning the product has nostalgic or other value but it's not really practical when compared to other options.

  • @Maw1777

SKOC doesn't negate practicality. As an example, many guys of my generation still like all-metal handguns. Polymer pistols not so much. Are Glocks, etc. lighter than the 1911's & Beretta 92's us geezers shoot? You bet. Are they "more practical?" By any objective standard, no. They aren't more accurate & on the whole aren't much if any more reliable. The big pistols still hold a great deal of SKOC for shooters my age and remain just as practical today as when we were young.

  • @nomoanymore The "first kind of cool" refers to usefulness in a particular role, reliability, high value for the price, and so on. "Second kind of cool" is used by Nutnfancy to refer to personal preference (mostly an aesthetic, non-pragmatic preference, I think).

  • @nomoanymore 1st kind of cool is performance/price=value, 2nd kind of cool is something that makes you happy (always wanted it, just because).

  • Comment removed

  • @nomoanymore Watch this video "Two Kinds of Cool" - /watch?v=yGsNeUQZ1f0

  • Did you make a video of Benchmade at SHOT 2012?

  • Looks quite a bit different from the original.

  • Nice gun price is a bit off nowadays. Should be no more than 1500 maybe 16. To be competitive. Then again maybe sig doesn't want competitive

  • @TheMadMedek

Its the typical Sig, Colt, HK etc. markup. You pay for the name.

  • so if you buy this over lighter rifle you want it because its sexy? id buy this over most m4 type rifles, but i'd prolly go with an acr if i got 5.56

  • Looks chunky and heavy.

  • @oOMickanOo you sick sonofabitch!!! hahaha

  • Comment removed

  • nice

  • @nutnfancy Impact Guns has them listed for $1569.99.

  • @nutnfancy

I have a Sig 550 sitting in my closet that was issued by the Swiss military when I was in service. Mine was free. It is a great rifle and I love going to Swiss shooting festival across the country. It is very precise at 300m and it runs like a clock watch. Plus, free ammunition supplied by our government is really cool. BTW, this assault rifle came out in 1990.

  • @NeptuneBlueZ That's one great reason to NOT invade Switzerland. LoL! Is your 550 semi-auto or full-auto? Just curious about the full-auto laws and what-not in the land of cheese, clocks and banks. Cheers!

  • @guns4good

It may sound funny but Swiss were fierce warriors, mercenaries and well-trained soldiers for centuries. Firearm ownership has a long tradition in Switzerland. My SIG 550 was issued by military, so it is in full-auto. Most firearms are sold as semi-auto but it is fairly easy to get a special permit in order to get a full-auto rifle. You can even import firearms on your own, without going through a gun store or FFL, as long as you are a law bidden Swiss citizen.

  • @NeptuneBlueZ That's the coolest thing EVER! We have that Right built into our Constitution and can't do that! Switzerland sounds pretty awesome! Very unique among European nations, too.

US Government: we want our rights back! You know, so that we're more like Switzerland!

  • @guns4good

Having living in California (not a friendly gun state), it is easier to obtain a gun in Switzerland. However, we cannot open or concealed carry like in the US. We can transport privately own firearms in a range bag, unloaded, with ammo boxes next to them during your trip to the range as long as you are discrete, you are fine. Crime rates are low here. People even carry their rifles on their back in the countryside and no one cares. In the city, it is a bit different.

  • @NeptuneBlueZ amen brother. d`schwiz rockt halt ;-)

  • No kidding?

We have been able to own these in Canada for years?

Non restricted yet...man our laws are so wacked!

I have owned 2 and have bought and sold many.

More reliable than (my) M-4 platforms (zero bolt durability issues) and quite a bit more accurate (on average). Expect 3/4 inch groups @100yds or better from decent ammunition.

Downsides? Weight, limited accessories, and a 12" twist.

Glad to see it coming into the USA.

    Peace

  • but that 2k price is high

  • that thing is pure sex

  • i prefer the rifles from lwc and jp, the sig guns look old style now.

  • absolutely hate it...

  • Why do people always crap so much about the "weight issues" on civilian rifles and even pistols? Why don´t you just save the money for those incredible heavy-weight pistols and invest it in a gym?

  • @APedroSanchez weight might not be that big of an issue but if you have lets say two weapons with pretty much the same capabilities and one of them is noticeable lighter why not go with that one then? who knows what you might need it for in the future, carrying the lighter weapon you could for example carry a bit more ammo or water or food or something right? but yea if thats nothing you personally are taking into consideration thats perfectly fine too.

  • @herrRuger

I really didn´t mean to offend anybody. Talking about rifles, yeah, ok, weight may be an issue. Pounds do matter. But If i think about civilian weapons... who cares? A little bit more water or food? It´s not bad to think "tactical", but tactics always depend on the situation. If I am a civilian, I don´t think like a member of the seals. Different game, different tactics...

  • @APedroSanchez hahahaha, Oh man I like this post. hahah. I will admit most guys go off on weight just out of habit of hearing other talk about how much a knife of gun weighs. But the truth is if you have to "bug out" with gear like a solider with full pack and gear OR a Pilot where every ounce must be accounted for then its understandable. But a normal Weakend Warrior should not care so much or as much about a ounce or 3. They should still go to the gym though. hahaha.

  • @jmce3

"every ounce a pound...". Maybe you are right. When I had to "bug out" the last time... ( Did I ever? Will I ever? )

If one rifle weighs one or two pouns more, will be an issue for a soldier, yes. But for a guy, taking the rifle out of the car, bringing rounds down range, driving back home...

Don´t want to offend nobody´s "mind-set" , but sometimes it seems to be a little bit overdone

  • @APedroSanchez True, I do get why Nutn does it. haha If you ever met a military pilot they are anal as hell about weight. But that is a good thing. I want the guy flying anal to the point of pain...ouch haha. But I agree guys need to really think on WHAT THEY WILL USE IT FOR. And what else are they going to have to carry and for how long. If its just to the range then not as big an issue. I like the 551 A1 and wish I had the loot for it.

  • @jmce3

last time I met a military pilot, he looked at me and said:

    "Loose weight" ;-)

  • @APedroSanchez I approve of this message. ahhahaah

The last military pilot I met told me to move to the other side of the plane to help shift the weight. HAHA...true.

  • Man I love Sig Assault Rifles.

  • @soundmethod why give away your 3rd amendment rights, at least in Washington.

  • Why pay that for a semi auto?

  • You know here is a complain that doesn't get used very often here, I wish the freaking video was longer. I was so excited until i saw it was just 2 minutes long.

  • LOL wow... for some reason I thought the time said 22 minutes. Guess I just wanted more.

    Great mini review dude.

    Thanks

  • Plus, everyone knows the 550 platform is the best AK-knockoff ever made.

  • Complaining about a 7.7lb weight when you even go to say that the Arsenal AKs have "a light carry weight."? SGL31 being 7.3 lbs on the Arsenal website, and a Sig 551 having a listed weight of 7.3 lbs, both being unloaded.

$2000 would be a god damned steal for a Swiss Arms. I don't know the manufacturing on these how these will hold up, but north of the border Swiss-made Black and Green Specials (PE 90 -> Sig 550 equivalent) go for upwards of $3000 and are worth every penny.

  • @vnlk65n From what I've seen of these, (and I've seen few), they appear to have some cut back components, quality wise. It doesn't strike me as a cheap gun, but it also doesn't scream Swiss Arms original either, (good or bad, take it as you will). You save money, (retail seems to be about ~$1500), and keep all of the cool, unless you're a die-hard.

  • I got this rifle for military servic back in 2003 now here is what i saw.....a guy shot around 15 mags (20 rounds) tracer ammo and the plastic began to melt...after that he put the gun on a stone to cool off and he took the gun back and saw that the barrel aint straight... so the gun is a nightmare!

how that i live 70miles from the Arsenal factory and had a chance to shoot an AK i take it all day over the 550 ;)

  • BF3

  • Holy shit where is that weight coming from.. love Sig but no way in hell I'd ever buy this brick

  • Jeez, you can get one of those JP Enterprises for the same cost, and those are MONSTERS on the targets, still a cool looking gun but...

  • bleh. Don't like it. Don't like the weight, don't like the mag release. Only thing good about it is that it's got a foldin gstock.

  • I like my AR-15 but it has a little weight to it too. I don't have a scale to weigh it,

only have a powder scale for reloading.

It is the picture of my Y/T avatar. Do you know the approx. weight?

    Bill

  • in my country every male cititzen get one sig 550 (full size rifle) after his military service. Even if it is accurate and reliable, I really don't dig it: it is HEAVY. If you can import a civilian version of the sig 550 in the US (if you're ok with paying at least 2400 USD), you wont regret it.

  • I have the same waepon, but the Commando SOW version (SIG 553).

  • I have an unusual Sig 556, with an A2 stock, long barrel with the Sig flash suppressor but the mid length gas system... Not a huge fan of it, my stock Stag Model 3 easily is more accurate

  • I wouldn't pay $1000 for that.

  • @YokoWenis - Then don't. Pretty simple.

  • Wow love this rifle!

  • Good, it was short because I got to study.

  • Could you do a video on daniel defense rifles. Thanks,

  • The is a very cool looking rifle. I'll be picking a completely over priced HK MR556 in a few weeks. I know it's heavier and it's about $1,000 to expensive but it's cool and I know it'll run for ever.

  • Good stuff! What do you think about Sigs 308?

  • Looks like a futurist AK 47

  • great vid love that gun

  • I could get quite a Di gun for that money.

  • The Sig 550 is so awesome, also my armyservice rifle. I served one year in our army and shot many thousand rounds with it.. :) The cool thing is, it's our personal weapon for free after the service :)

  • @Dani90ZH Win.

  • @Dani90ZH

Yeah free, after its fixed to semi-auto only...

  • @EvilxMerlin It's still full-auto :)

  • good video nutn and veri keep up the great work

  • Yay,A Gun ill never have, and if I did, would'nt have as much ammo as I would like

  • the '69 mustang of tactical carabines, outdated, yes, but you would sell your kidney to get one in prestine condition and just look at it and clean it.

  • a blast from the past...

  • Msrp for one of those in Canada is 3600 dollars.

  • Nein danke.

For 2k there's a shit ton better guns out there.

    Plus aren't those stamped rifles?

  • the original 556 is lighter with the alum lower (with 551 guards), takes standard AR mags, and can take the swiss stock anyway although it was introduced to take garden variety AR stocks at first. both the 556 and this one can be found for WAY under MSRP. the "thin" barrel also cools faster than a thicker one & is nitrited. good enough for full auto 551s = good enough for semis here under hard use. the extra weight comes in the form of a stout AK bolt group and super clean long stroke piston.

  • Too much money. Period

  • Sig just wants way too much for their stuff.. :( Sad day. I'll just build out 2 really nice ARs for 2,000.

  • @TheFoilsim Truth Bro! I build my AR for just under 700 thanks to a Del-Ton sale. I could do 2 for $1500 easy, that leaves $500 for accessories/mags!! Sig has got to lighten up! I have a Sig 522 and the ergos are nice but no way I'm movin to the big brother anytime soon with the AR platform so attainable :(

  • Most Sigs are over priced, its nice but 2Gs, no thanks

  • AK'S rule

  • $2000 can we say suck less, but boy is it pretty... i better get one soon...

  • For two G's, JP or Barrett .556 all the way!

  • Boobs

  • Finally a video I have time to watch...

  • Never handled a Sig rifle myself, but the polymere framed 9mm Sig Pro I had sucked. Couldn't pattern for crap. It was overpriced for what I got, and it's resale value tanked. So I wouldn't spend anywhere close to 2 grand on that rifle.

  • @oddcarl1 Buy a P series handgun. I have owned almost all the SIG handguns and the Sigpro was not up to snuff for sure. The P series is great. The 551 is a beast great rifle. I carried one for 5 years every day and I loved it. 2 grand yup a bit steep but you will see them for 1300 to 1600.

  • @Sigp229TRT Good to know I wasn't the only one to have problems with the Pro series.

  • @oddcarl1 No I had a 2340 in 40cal It's function was fine, it was an okay handgun but not a great one for sure. I did find it to be accurate though but greatly prefer anyone of the P series over any polymer handgun from SIG. I have shot the S&W Mand P and would take the SIGPRO over them anytime. The 551 rifle is a fantastic rifle, it simply shoots and shoots.

    Shoot,Move.......Live!!

  • Nice!

    \

  • You do know your shit my man

  • Review the 516 already!

  • meh

  • 2nd muda fuckaz :P love ur vids man :)

  • I LOVE NUTNFANCY! =p
