Hello ctmale1956. I am pleased that you took the time to leave a kind word on this video. It is not the first time that I hear of the RCA pressing of "50 Years of Music That America Loved Best". This recording seems to be iconic. I'm sure someone has a copy of it and is capable of digitizing it. I hope that that is the case.
I like this version --- THANK YOU.....but does anyone have the RCA mono version? It was on the RCA 33-LP titled "50 Years of Music That Amica Loved Best"........thanks.
This song was brought back to the public about 1947...my old friend, Kurt Webster, We both worked at WBT. He was known as the mIdnight mayor of Charlotte. they credited Kurt with the revival of the Ted Weems Orchestra. He was heard from Kennebunkport to Cuba. Perry Como had been with the Weems orchestra...he had homes in NC, Fla, Long Island.. This I can't confirm...the word was Perry wanted to get the Weems orchestra back..Kurt played requests..each night he would play it several times

Hello 76spiritof. Thanks for posting what is really interesting background information as to what you and Kurt Webster were doing at the time that this interpretation of "Heartaches" by Ted Weems and his orchestra lit up the phone lines and the air waves. 1947 was a great year for radio, too. Thanks for your first-person look back at radio's Golden Age. I appreciate it very much. God bless you.
Hello ha63. Thank you for taking the time to post a comment to this video. I most certainly agree that this is a truly beautiful song; lyrics and music alike. You have good musical taste, kind sir.
Excellent rendition. I was not aware of this band. I love 20's, 30's and 40's music. It has so much more finesse than in later years. I miss the big bands. Thank you for posting this CaravanaVan.
Hello RockNRold99. Thank you kindly for commenting on this video. I am glad that it has introduced you to Ted Weems and his orchestra. I miss the big band era, too. The music and lyrics really meaningful then. Fortunately, due to the advances in technology throughout the years, big band can still be heard as we were not able to hear it before, in the digital era. I still like scratchy 78s, though. They hold a special charm. Don't you think?
@CaravanaVan My parents had tons of 78's and we listened to them all the time. I'm not sure what happened to all of them after I left home, but I never saw them again. I suppose they were thrown out. I wish I had them now.
When my folks weren't listening to their music, I'd play R&R 45's in my room on my own record player. *grin*
Concur completely! The same to be said for the 0.7 mm needle as placed to a 45 r.p.m. And even their appearance-I still think record labels are beautiful.
I wasn't familiar with this rendition of 'Heartaches'. The rhythm section and the whistling make this a rather unique and pleasant listen. I'm going to sample some other tunes by Weems and the band; I'm sure they'll be equally toe-tapping. Thank you for posting this bit of nostalgia, CaravanaVan.
The 1933 Weems was originally released on Bluebird, not very successful probably because the song was around a year old at that time. Why Weems re-recorded it in 1938 remains a mystery to me. It failed then also. When the 1938 was re-released in 1947 it became an instant success. Noticing the popularity of the Decca Victor chose to re-release there version, both charted. I believe the Decca reached #1. I personally think the Decca is a bit more exciting.
Hello phredl. You certainly know your records, sir. Thank you for volunteering your knowledge here. I really learned a great deal because of it. God bless you.
Hello ctmale1956. Thank you for your comment on this video. So, there is an RCA version of this song on a compilation LP, huh? I now find myself challenged to scrounge around and see if I can find a copy of it somewhere.
@CaravanaVan Oh goodness -- I have the RCA recrod at home....but no way to play it and down load it.....I am so sorry.....e-mail me at: ctmale1956@yahoo.com and let's make this work...the RCA version is very nice.
Hello ctmale1956. I am afraid that I find myself in the very same predicament as yourself when it comes to playing analogue recordings. I too would have to find someone with a turntable in order to play them. Most folks have either mothballed their turntables or given them up. But collecting them is half the fun, though. Listening to them and transferring them to a digital medium is an entirely different matter.
I found myself whistling this out of the blue while walking around the local WalMart this morning, and it's been more than 60 years since I last heard this on the radio! The mind is a beautiful thing, and how blessed I am to have such an excellent memory. It was 1947 when I had my first real "girlfriend" (in 8th Grade). Her phone number was LA1-7557.
Hello Republicat74. Thank you for taking the time to post a comment on this video. Boy, "Heartaches' is definitely a great song to whistle to, isn't it? I am glad that it has evoked happy memories for you in hearing it again.
@Republicrat74 Hey Repu, I was just going to say the same as you - it's about 60 years I heard it last on the radio - I guess it was somewhere in WWII days - (I was born in 1935) What memories!!!
I've always loved this song so much, I'll even listen to it by the Marcels and that is is no way to disparage that version.
In '47, when the original was revived on Decca records and was # 1, there was simultaneously on the charts a different version on RCA Victor also by Ted Weems and of course, Elmo Tanner.
I discovered this when I recently found a 78 r.p.m. copy of the latter.
Hello Neptunesque. Thank you for taking time to post on this video. And I am so glad that you enjoyed hearing it again. Well, gosh, the songs were just swell back in the 1940's. I love listening to those tunes whenever I can. I hope to have more up soon. God's blessings to you and your loved ones.

Hello peabo12. Thank you for your comment on this video. I am truly glad that you enjoyed it.
And, yes. "Heartaches" is really a beautiful classic tune that goes way back. I first heard this tune for the first time as interpreted by the Marcels as well.
Why, thank you for taking time to comment on this video, numberexchange. I am really glad that you enjoyed it. I hope to upload other stuff in the future. So, please stay tuned :-)
