Read your blog about it...the new train route & train are pretty awesome, especially if your headed out to Niigata prefecture. We always get a JR pass which is about $650us for 14 days, about 50% more than 10 years ago. But still an awesome deal if your going to be shinkansenning a lot. We're headed over in April to see the family & checking out Kyushu for the first time...cheers for the info, we might try it one day if we're headed straight to Nagaoka.
