Great story, but annoying how the news reporting spun it to promote embryonic stem cell therapy which is not what this woman was treated with. She had her own stem cells extracted from one part of her body and then injected elsewhere else (after some biochemistry magic was applied). This has nothing to do with Obama except that funds for this real and known research will be likely diminished now.
When Mr oblama reversed President Bush's Ban on the use of Federal Funds for ESCR, he also stopped any Federal Funds from beng used for ASCR. If you don't believe me just look at what stem cell research gets Federal Funds and What Stem Cell Research Doesn't Get Federal Funds.
American doctors have not tried this yet because the FDA has not approved these kind of treatments. And the main reason for that is that there has not been enough research into the long term effects of this type of therapy. Cancer is one of the things that the FDA is worried about.
You are confusing ADULT stem cells, WHICH HAVE ALREADY BEEN USED IN >1000 patients in the US as part of clinical trials....with FETAL stem cells, which have a risk of cancer

Leyla, Since the topic is about stem cell research, you can quickly eliminate 78% of your ASCR queries.
ASCR, in this case, stands for Adult Stem Cell Research.
Did you want to make a point?

I didn't know. I googled ASCR and that is what I found.

Because American doctors get "kick-backs" for prescribing medications. It is all about money.

This is yet another example of the great hope available from adult stem cells.
I really dont know why American doctors dont start trying these sorts of adult stem cell therapies here.
