Dammit, I really wanted to fly on the Concorde, which in my opinion is the most beautiful plane in the world. I wish they never retired this plane, what were those people thinking.
i know why they dont use concordes anymore, its because the engine is REALLY loud. (thats because it has a big engine an that's what makes it loud) And i've heard the engine trust me you wouldn't like to hear it. And i have also heard that someone actually got deafth from hearing it.
I have two fligths with BA Concorde and what impressed me most was the sound during takeoff. It was almost like standing in the shower with water running over the ears. I still hear the deep bass sound today as I shower.
i did see something the other day on Key Publishing that a group is trying to get a concorde flying again in time for 2012 for the Olympics and the queens jubilee and for airshows
i was lucky to go on concorde, a day i will never forger, what a wonderfull aircraft. it would still be flying today if BA would have agreed to sell it to Vigin airlines. BA being bloody minded would not sell.
It was the American assholes that caused Concorde to retire. They built this shitty airplane (DC-10) that drops sharp pieces of metal onto the runway.they said "it was to environmentally harmful, and they have 6 of the top ten most polluted cities on the planet. And they think Concorde is to dangerous to fly over their cities. Thanks a lot George Bush.
@1imthwalrus American here. It was actually the fault of some maintenance fellow who attached a part incorrectly that caused it to fall off. While I hate the DC-10 as much as anybody, to intimate that the fault lies with Americans and DC-10's in general as opposed to the real cause (a single asshole who happened to be American, stupid, and repairing a DC-10) is doing your fellow Americans a disservice. Your reasoning sucks all the way around, actually - including your pollution claims. Fuck off
I feel privileged to drive past the Concorde everyday. One still remains at Heathrow Airport, right next to the road (Envoy Avenue - Off Eastern Perimeter Road). It's amazing to see it, yet also sad that this beautiful (but very loud) bird flies no more :(
911 killed this bird. Half it's customers died in the world trade centre and because the American airlines plane that dropped fod on paris Charles degall runway which caused the crash. Word has it Americans were envious of her so had it grounded by not allowing it to land in us airports. History lesson for the educationally sub normal on here:-)
Good vid...... 10/10..... Isn't the taxying for takeoff all part of take off :-) Such graceful lines........... Used to suffer this bird landing at Heathrow, my 3rd fl flat was directly on the approach. Twice in the evenings. Lovely and distinct sound though, you could tell it was Concorde a coming. I'm a bit deaf now..... :-)

It is too bad they are still grounded since the crash really had nothing to do with the fact that it was a Concorde. Any jet could have ingested that titanium strip or had it punch into a fuel tank.
Yes, but any other jet would probably have been able to reach the nearest airport and make an emergency landing. When boeing designed the wing of the 707 (first really comercially successful jet) it was decided to put the engines in pods suspended below the wing even though putting the engines inside the wing (ie the comet) gives less drag. The reasoning was that catastrophic failure of the engine is much less likely to compromise wing structure if the engines are in pods.
When the fuel tank was punctured on the AF flight, the escaping fuel ignited in the exhaust stream from the engines which set the wing on fire. The aircraft eventually went into an unrecoverable bank because of a loss of lift from the burning wing. Dont get me wrong, Im a major fan of concorde, but the design does have to take some blame for the crash. And in any case, they are not grounded because of the crash. They were returned to service with modifications.
@EMT308 They're not "grounded" - they're done flying forever. All of BA’s Concorde fleet have been grounded, their airworthiness certificates withdrawn, and drained of hydraulic fluid. Estimates in 2004 reveal it would cost £10–15 million to make each plane airworthy again. British Airways maintain ownership, and have stated that they will not fly again as Airbus ended support of the aircraft in 2003.
Well, no worse a polluant than any other jet. And the noise is awsome! I'll admit that I don't have to live right under a runway, but the thing sounds more like a fighter taking off than an airliner.
Concorde is a technological relic from the sixties, as was the Apollo programm. Progress was made too fast and thus resulted in a flawed product. Concorde was single large design flaw, it was too loud, too inefficient, too much of everything that other planes of the time were not. It is the exact same thing as with the lunar landers which were also too advanced for their time, resulting not only in various accidents but also in any Apollo mission having at least one near fatal occasion.
Plane take offs are one of those things in life that really give me goosebumps. To me, it's like one of human civilisation's greatest achievements, to be able to fly the skies.
Concorde was canned due to cost, the cost of safety upgrades following the dozens of incidents over its service (ultimately the big crash in 2000). Eventually the plane could not turn a profit (something which was difficult to achieve anyway).

Moron.
The aircraft were modified - that was all paid for BEFORE the retirement.
A lack of will, as Airbus demanded more money as they wanted to kill it off due to projects like the a380 which left Airbus on the line, and AF losing money badly while looking for investors. Due to this Airbus tried to force out BA, and succeeded.
It will always be in our hearts and memories. I went to the outskirts of Heathrow and Concorde went over my head coming to land. I never forget the noise and view! Does any one think a concorde type will be built again?
