Is Mrs. Haze really that oblivious? He totally wanted to escape at every chance he got, then he sees her daughter half naked and suddenly its "WOW WHAT A NICE HOUSE." :P
I reccomend the 1997 seven version - it's been uploaded in full. Just search
'Lolita (1997) Part 1)'. This version is good, however I find the 1997 version much closer to the novel, and the actors for Quilty, Humbert and Lolita (who, let's face it, are the main characters) much more accturate.
i watched that version first but i dont know, i dont really like the girl that plays lolita in it but im told this version is brilliant and the better of the two.
I don't know, I found this scene (Quilty's death) in the 1997 version so much better. More climactic and you don't get the sense that he particulalry afraid in ths one.
"...What was the deciding factor?" LOL!

women looked so mature and beautiful then. They looked real. Today's women can take a lesson from women from that time period.

Well I prefer the later version of this movie so I haven't quite done my reading. Either way, thanks for the information.

i love Stanley Kubrick's movies but the 1997 version is way closer to the books story line. And who ever did the casting chose Lolita very poorly
Welcome2MyHell6 2 years ago
I love movies from 60s, but this one, well I prefer '97 version. This Lolita (from '62) just doesn't look 12 years old, sorry
naniro1616 2 years ago
@naniro1616 Lolita is 14 in the 62 version due to heavy censorship in the film.

what was the song that was playing when u first see Lolita?
bubbanelson474 2 years ago
It's called "Lolita Ya Ya". I think that's Nelson Riddle's film version, but it was also done by the The Ventures.
SFforlife 2 years ago
Actually I think that's a Bob Harris composition. I'd love to hear the Ventures version! Yowza!

did she say her cherry pie or cherry prize?--either way she was subliminally offering up her daughter.
"i think it was your cherry pies."

I love this movie!
The 1997 version is good, but I like this sort of filmmaking better, if that makes sense. :)
Watch both versions though!

The girl in this version looks way older than 12, more like 16 or 17.
Vokio 3 years ago
The girl was 14 because Stanley thought it would be a more acceptable age for commercial appeal at the time. She still looks much older though .
susanajane 3 years ago
I think Stanley would have gone for 12-years-old anyway, but the MPAA demanded at least 14.
ChachiTelevision1979 3 years ago
yea the girl in the 1997 version does look young.
MsLightBright 3 years ago
You'd be surprised what 12-year-olds (and 14-year-olds can look like...

I agree! Sometimes if I don't wear make up, I look like a teen, then other days I look my age.
I see some middle school kids and they look like they wouldn't get carded at the club.
