Modern warfare 2 is not really technically part of the call of duty series. thats why its modern warfare 2 and not call of duty modern warfare 2. i believe they sold the rights to COD to treyarch. (or however you spell it)

Modern Warfare is now its own franchise as it makes enough money on its own and by calling it 'Call of Duty' will only drag the CoD title down and give it age so Treyarch is now the sole and primary developer of Call of Duty games/titles and Infinty Ward is sole of Modern Warfare games, expect MW to mimick CoD meaning we might have lots of MW games just like we had quite a few CoD games.
