@brooder9000 it all depends on how you train your body. My sensai is 4'11 or 5' I'm 5'4 and outweigh her. When we train I charge at her with all my energy and strength and she's able to use it against me with the way she uses her body. Do you train in Aikido?
Nice video but if you want to know how to defend yourself in street do not choose aikido, some club will teach you moves for real fight but not all of them, dont forget that aikido is an art, if you wanna defend yourself just try krav maga, it's vicious and bastard, but you'll be fine in most case in a fight when you just know where to hit and how.
@charlie8449 Thanks for the comment but I already know how to defend my self. This techinques helped me a lot in real fight and in real extreme situations. You are right that Aikido is an art but Real Aikido is a little bit different.Real Aikido is for Street situations, for policemen, for guards and etc.By the way with this martial art was used to train a lot of Special forces and Professional Bpdyguards for 5 Presidents.anyway thanks for your opinion.
Thanks for the video many people people put down Aikiido Because they watch mma. Howevever I believe all martial art have something you can learn from. Like you my cousine was saved because he knew Aikido. He was jumped by skinheads in germany all his friends were to scared so he had to defend them by himself. He was able to defend them away but he was still upset because he got hit and needed to go to hospital.I told him dude Ur a hero. none of Ur friends got hurt.
If you are properly trained in Aikido you will not NEED to fight. The confidence that and posture you gain from Aikido will cause your attacker to doubt his actions. Samurai often fought without ever drawing their sword.
@mikehashorns Thanks for the question.yes.I have been attacked but I didn't react like in this video.this is only a demonstration.in real life it is different.I can't explain with words but the result was execellent for me.Real Aikido saved me several times.
@mikehashorns Most trained fighters won't fight in the street unless it's absolutely necessary...I am also meaning "professional" fighters or up-and-coming amateur fighters looking to go pro. However, if we are so unlucky to meet that guy who just goes to the boxing, muay thai, or bjj gym, but doesn't compete...that is still a rarity unto itself.
@Ronnock I agree. Although, this reply does not answer my question. I was after a specific story regarding a public fight the actor in this video may have encountered. In my line of work, I end up in fights with night club patrons on a nightly basis. So as you can see, I'm curious to hear a disciple of Aikido's story.
@mikehashorns And do you deal with competently trained fighters often or just really aggressive people ready to use any means necessary to kick the shit outta someone? My limited experience with Aikido (Tomiki School), in the 3 months that I took it, had me believing that Aikido is more about preventing the "fisticuffs" scenario and more about restraining them before they have the chance to wallop on you.
@mikehashorns Hi.first of all thanks for the question.I would like to answer but I do not know how to explain this with words.I prefer to show in dojo and explain.thanks.
I hate it when ppl call Aikido "fake" b/c the demos are slow. The truth is, demonstrations are meant to be slow to show how these techniques are applied. Both timing, physical conditioning and proper technique are needed for ANY disipline to be effective.
i have a question, im starting this next week, but like, in all the videos ive seen, (obviously they are faked just to show you the technique) but they are always between 2 people that know the art. What happens when a random guy throws wildly with a knife or a broken bottle? Basically is aikido effective for the street? Krav maga is, and eventually i will learn both styles, but i want to start with aikido.
@motley0crue12 It is just a demonstration but in real life Real Aikido is wild and effective than we showed in this video.and if random guy attacks he will not fall like this.he will fall with pain.not like professional.and if you want to do the technique in real situations you must have good experinece.Real Aikido saved my life in hard situations.I know what it means.thanks.
@fnsnfar hey i do not praktise aikido and i not going to its too far awai but i praktise itf tkd im goda start han moo doo or bjj. i just want to ask you, how was it in that real life situasion im litle yellus of cuorse i dont want to be in danger but i want to feel how it is to be in to a reall life situasion when u can feel thats ur praktise finally comes to hand. (srry for bad english and spelling)
I have a question: Are you really flipping him over when doing techniques like the Kote Gaeshi, or is he just co-operating by flipping along with your force?
@fnsnfar Right, I get that much. But what I mean is what if you used that move on someone who isn't a martial artist or just of another type of martial art who was attacking you, would your force send them flipping when you do the move or do you just do the move and hope they give in to the inertia? The reason I ask is because I just want to know if that ever legitimately happens from the user's control or if it is just a thing done by Aikido practitioners for show or etc.
@DrummermanMatt only aikidokas and other martial artists will jump like that.I mean like in this video.to not break arm.but in real life they will fall but not like that.they will fall painfully.not as professional.
Great dancing there guys....You should totally join all of the other real aikido masters in mma and help them dominate the sport..... oh wait, you akitards can't even hold your own in amateur matches.
I've noticed the agility and strength of Nage, - And make a note to my Post - It : It's all about Strength and Agility in Martial Arts. Even in aikido.
We had a few BJJ guys come into my Aikido Dojo once "claiming" to be of black belt status and couldnt do anything. People should study many martial arts before they comment.
@dickhornymouth if you you tried to punch a guy in the face in the process of one of these moves your wrist, arm, or elbow would snap...trust me i thought the same.
@dickhornymouth you will never land even one finger against a real wingchun or aikido practioneer just cause they are known for defensive tactics, they will win effectively 99% of situations where lethal weapons (guns) aren't applied, that is if only the student has reached a sustainable level of knowledge in order to use it in emergency situations, I've been following hapkido and wingchun for only 2 years and I can only apply some wingchun defense but japanese MA requires more finesse and work
@gifted4 then how come they dont teach this bullshit in the SEALS...or no master has joined MMA to show his 'skills'....weird.....cause its not practical...i good wrestler would control the shit out of akido and not do front flips to make the wrist lock seem better than it is
@dickhornymouth man, I'm talking about emergency situations and street thugs, bullies, muggers, not MMA VS MMA. A real practioneer in any MMA will understand and respect other forms of Martial Arts. I enjoy some BJJ too because of it's strong posture and form. I'm not doubting that BJJ can't take care of street bullies.
@dickhornymouth I hear you've never been in a wristlock.....An easy exercise is to just to fold your thumb inwards and press..... and when you do, think how it would feel with serious pressure......and dont forget, thats just a thumb......
@dickhornymouth I may not understand your comment. Are you saying you are going to punch me in the face AFTER I have wrist control? If that's it, you need to experience it. You have a natural pain reaction...while you're doing that, I can do....whatever. Do it to yourself: face your right palm towards your face in front of you. with your other hand, quickly bend your right wrist toward you while twisting it out towards your right thumb. Do it quickly and firmly and you'll get the idea.
this is really effective.A guy at school hold me like that (0:31) and i do that technique.( KATATEDORHI). he started to say: nononoo. plz plz stop. it's really hurt. HAHAH.
i think aikido works just for people who have experience. (i dont have experience KATATEDORHI is easy to do) xD.
I understand at 10s your being easy on him with the strikes because he's your Uke but honestly if you are both high ranking aikidoka you would think that he could take harder hits.
I understand at 10s your being easy on him with the strikes because he's your Uke but honestly if you are both high ranking aikidoka you would think that he could take harder hits.
I think aikido's awesome, but I hate seeing demos w/ fellow students showin memorized techniques.its effective against peeps who don't know martial arts.I can never get the image outta my head, but when I was 17,my manager fired3guys at the same time. They started2get mad,1 tried 2 slug him & he tagged um,open-handed on the jaw&knocked him out, then locked the other guy up using his sleeves.he didn't fall like a trained student, he fell face 1st,lol.(3rd guy didn't do anything)
If you're an Aikido artist, you must have very quick reflexes. especially if you are trying to manipulate the body of a highly-trained, very strong attacker such as a Muay Thai artist.
I'm not trying to knock Aikido here, I think it's extremely effective, especially against someone whose never trained, but against a highly skilled Thai boxer, or boxer, or legitimate Karate black belt, I don't see it being very good.
I work in a place were we do get into altercations and have to use there techniques. Sometimes we react and use some Akido tech it isn't always a wrist grab sometimes guys will rush right at you.
According to me what could makes aikido more "real" isn't training it without kimono or in a park, but simple try against a resistant and not cooperative partner
Aikido helps the person to defend and it helps a lot in the streets,,, does muay Thai has the technique to defend against knives?? no offense I've been in Muay thai too before,,i've noticed that Aikido is much more effective in defensing,,remember the best offense is to have the best defense,,
@MrMannerheim aikido works is one of the best martial arts for street, of course u need to practice very different and the tecniches are more explosive and not so tradicional. seee heaindojo1 videos, those are pretty good examples of this
@MrMannerheim i can not begin to explain all the mistakes in your comment. first, aikido works very well in the streets. iv seen my instructor take down army special forces guys with aikido. how can you say it doesnt work when you have probably have never experienced it first hand. muay thai is great for the ufc and it can be useful in the streets but not nearly as effective in the streets. just because you dont see it in ufc does not mean it doesnt work.
@TAC412 muay thai is useful to an extent. what if the attacker has a bat, or a knife, or a gun? what are you goin to do? throw an elbow at his bat? no... Also many times your up against more that one person in the streets. muay thai trains and prepairs you to face one person in a ring with rules and reffs and judges and time limits. aikido trains and prepairs you for anything.
If an akido fight faces a guner, he wont stand a chance either. Streets here refer to one on one with no weapons. Dont forget Muay Thai's derived from Muay Boran, a real killing martial art. I dont know how aikido is really effective but Muay Boran surely was and it was used to kill before already.
@TAC412 umm... you obniously never studied aikido. there are a ton of gun disarms in aikido. not a single one in muay thai. and uh... since when does an attacker care about fighting fair (no wepons or buddies to help) also, aikido was developed by the samuri, the samuri were killing experts. they used what was called aikijitsu which later became aikido
@kyle1815 As I mentioned, Muay Thai is usuful. Maybe Aikido might be as well as useful *shrugs* However I've never seen anyone using Akido in MMA. Aikijitsu might've been very deadly but so was Muay Boran. And please dont tell me that Aikijitsu was more daedly than Muay Boran. You never know because these two martial arts never fought.
@TAC412 id still put my money on the aikidoka because aikijitsu was a defensive art therefor there isnt really a way to defend against it other than to stop attacking. the reason you never see aikido in mma is that aikido is about 90% small joint locks. small joint locks are banned from mma because they are dangerous. if aikido was in mma people would constantly be getting there bones broken and joints dislocated. almost everything in aikido breaks something.
@kyle1815 Good for you. I hope what you've been practising will really work in real situations. However, I'd put everything on the Muay Boran because this art was titled the art of 9 limbs and I bet you know why. This art covered from striking, joint lockings, breaking bones, throwings, slammings, including submissions.
@kyle1815 And Muay Boran did work because in sparring, the siamese muay boran warriors really fought and killed each other to prove that the techniques would work in real situations. You can say Akido is very usuless but still I will always say Muay Thai is very usuful in street as well :)
@TAC412 the samurai didnt have to kill each other to prove that aikido worked. they killed the enemy. and im sure boran worked great. but muay thai just insnt ment for the streets. its ment for the ring. im sure its helpful in the street but its focus is for sport. but to say that aikido is not effective is an unintelligent, uneducated, colsed minded and absurd statement. venture outside mma and ufc. the styles you see in the ring are not the only good ones out there
@kyle1815 Ok well first, do you agree that boxing is muay thai without elbow and knee strikes? If you agree, you may watch this vidoe, watch?v=6iDlzL7zrNU&feature=related , and see how effective boxing can be.
@kyle1815 So well I guess it comes into individuals then. And when I said that muay boran fighters fought and killed each other, they did it to make sure it'd work in real life. You dont want to just simulate the situations right? You want to fight with a real person who can actually move and have two hands to protect himself.
@MrMannerheim aikido does work and well capoeira is fun but youre right its basically useless, and muay thai is good i wouldnt consider it to be the best..
@MrMannerheim muay thai is highly effective especially aginst untrained ppl but it is not the best stand up style. 1st it isnt a lethal style(witch is why its used in mma sport fighting) 2nd muay thai fighters still get hit a lot((giving crowd appeal, (both fighters getting the crap beat out of them) )). there are styles of martial arts that are made to kill and stlyes of martial arts that if your good you shouldnt get touched.
@MrMannerheim I Agree, this is bs doesnt work when someone is ACTUALLY trying to attack you... (Like when his partner gets double wrist control from the back on him... and he just turns out and gains wrist control???)
@MrJgraham91 trust me it does.. im 15 , learned aikido for 3 years and it helped a lot.. up in school this foo tried to fight me and he started doing all these wack ass moves as if he was a boxer or if he knew how to fight..
@MrJgraham91 and he just started throwing punches at me.. i just kept balance blocked his punches .. the dude was unbalanced all over the place.. and i found an opening and threw a blow to a pressure pint below the ear close to the neck.. and the dude just fell and .. what a punk ass . i thought but then i got suspended for using aikido... technically..
@MrMannerheim Thats bulshit, you have to practicaly master Aikido for it to work in a real life situation. Whereas you can take some of the stuff from contact martial arts home after every session.
Great video!! I have trained muay thai. I'm about to start aikido, because i don't find here where i live a real aikido academy. I want to ask, is traditional aikido effective in street? are there many differences between traditional and real aikido? hope you answer me, thanks!!
@galvanized1 trditional aikido is an art where you can depend yourself without causing harm to your opponent. Im a member of kubujutso ryu in the philippines where we practices combat aikido mixed with arnis and sword fighting. we adopt our techniques in actual street fighting. its good to start with trditional aikido, then mixed it with other martial art to be more effective. see some steven seagal movies.
@galvanized1 yes it is.. got in a fight at school .. last year.. i had studied aikido for 3 years.. and one day this foo wants to fight me.. he came at me with several punches.. and i saw he was unbalanced.. came into one punch , hand over the shoulder.. and sweeped him with my right leg, down.. then i just started punching him... got suspended for that fight in school tho
Interesting video. The music however is deeply disappointing: why do Japanese martial arts always have to be accompanied with this ridiculous music? The music suggests an agressive spirit in those arts, while inner calm in execution is THE point.
nice video but try doing your techniques against real attacks.....it's highly unlikely to get grabbed by the wrist or to get attacked as in your video. if you can get your techniques to work against a real punch both trained and untrained it's great, otherwise be careful the tsuki attacks in a gym are very different from a boxer's/karateka's punch
I'm glad to hear you're open-minded, that's extremely important. I'm sure you'll be able to adapt to various situations if you train for them, for example against an untrained hook punch attack which is quite frequent on the streets your techniques should work nicely. I wish you all the best and keep training, you've got great potential.
@zoocop true.. i studied aikido for 3 years.. im 15 now and yeah it happened to me at school .. got punched twice but was still able to pull through and was able to bring the dude down...
Good video, well produced, and the content is great! There are not much videos of aikido selfdefence on youtube, thanks to you, there will be more! ;)

I think aikido's awesome, but I hate seeing demos w/ fellow students showin memorized techniques.its effective against peeps who don't know martial arts.I can never get the image outta my head, but when I was 17,my manager fired3guys at the same time. They started2get mad,1 tried 2 slug him & he tagged um,open-handed on the jaw&knocked him out, then locked the other guy up using his sleeves.he didn't fall like a trained student, he fell face 1st,lol.(3rd guy didn't do anything)
nuttypagal 1 year ago
If you're an Aikido artist, you must have very quick reflexes. especially if you are trying to manipulate the body of a highly-trained, very strong attacker such as a Muay Thai artist.
I'm not trying to knock Aikido here, I think it's extremely effective, especially against someone whose never trained, but against a highly skilled Thai boxer, or boxer, or legitimate Karate black belt, I don't see it being very good.

I work in a place were we do get into altercations and have to use there techniques. Sometimes we react and use some Akido tech it isn't always a wrist grab sometimes guys will rush right at you.
zoocop 1 year ago
According to me what could makes aikido more "real" isn't training it without kimono or in a park, but simple try against a resistant and not cooperative partner
ParkFight 1 year ago
for the street there's krav maga or street fight not aikido....
SuperSanto94 1 year ago
@SuperSanto94 crav maga is aikido with a lot more strikes. its almost the same thing.

Aikido helps the person to defend and it helps a lot in the streets,,, does muay Thai has the technique to defend against knives?? no offense I've been in Muay thai too before,,i've noticed that Aikido is much more effective in defensing,,remember the best offense is to have the best defense,,
Zackry13th 1 year ago
Aikido DOESN'T work on the street. Almost as effective as Capoeira ;) Stick to Muay Thai. The best martial art for stand up fighting.
MrMannerheim 1 year ago
It depends on person who tries it.for example for me it really works.I know it because I used it in different situations and it helped me a lot.
fnsnfar 1 year ago 14
@MrMannerheim aikido works is one of the best martial arts for street, of course u need to practice very different and the tecniches are more explosive and not so tradicional. seee heaindojo1 videos, those are pretty good examples of this
rulomano 1 year ago
@MrMannerheim i can not begin to explain all the mistakes in your comment. first, aikido works very well in the streets. iv seen my instructor take down army special forces guys with aikido. how can you say it doesnt work when you have probably have never experienced it first hand. muay thai is great for the ufc and it can be useful in the streets but not nearly as effective in the streets. just because you dont see it in ufc does not mean it doesnt work.
justincb13 1 year ago
@justincb13
Sorry, Muay Thai is surely useful in the streets, not to mentioned Muay Boran which is rarely taught only in Thailand.
TAC412 1 year ago
@TAC412 muay thai is useful to an extent. what if the attacker has a bat, or a knife, or a gun? what are you goin to do? throw an elbow at his bat? no... Also many times your up against more that one person in the streets. muay thai trains and prepairs you to face one person in a ring with rules and reffs and judges and time limits. aikido trains and prepairs you for anything.
kyle1815 1 year ago
@kyle1815
TAC412 1 year ago
@TAC412 umm... you obniously never studied aikido. there are a ton of gun disarms in aikido. not a single one in muay thai. and uh... since when does an attacker care about fighting fair (no wepons or buddies to help) also, aikido was developed by the samuri, the samuri were killing experts. they used what was called aikijitsu which later became aikido
kyle1815 1 year ago
@kyle1815 As I mentioned, Muay Thai is usuful. Maybe Aikido might be as well as useful *shrugs* However I've never seen anyone using Akido in MMA. Aikijitsu might've been very deadly but so was Muay Boran. And please dont tell me that Aikijitsu was more daedly than Muay Boran. You never know because these two martial arts never fought.
TAC412 1 year ago
@TAC412 id still put my money on the aikidoka because aikijitsu was a defensive art therefor there isnt really a way to defend against it other than to stop attacking. the reason you never see aikido in mma is that aikido is about 90% small joint locks. small joint locks are banned from mma because they are dangerous. if aikido was in mma people would constantly be getting there bones broken and joints dislocated. almost everything in aikido breaks something.
kyle1815 1 year ago
@kyle1815 Good for you. I hope what you've been practising will really work in real situations. However, I'd put everything on the Muay Boran because this art was titled the art of 9 limbs and I bet you know why. This art covered from striking, joint lockings, breaking bones, throwings, slammings, including submissions.
TAC412 1 year ago
@kyle1815 And Muay Boran did work because in sparring, the siamese muay boran warriors really fought and killed each other to prove that the techniques would work in real situations. You can say Akido is very usuless but still I will always say Muay Thai is very usuful in street as well :)
TAC412 1 year ago
@TAC412 the samurai didnt have to kill each other to prove that aikido worked. they killed the enemy. and im sure boran worked great. but muay thai just insnt ment for the streets. its ment for the ring. im sure its helpful in the street but its focus is for sport. but to say that aikido is not effective is an unintelligent, uneducated, colsed minded and absurd statement. venture outside mma and ufc. the styles you see in the ring are not the only good ones out there
kyle1815 1 year ago
@kyle1815 Ok well first, do you agree that boxing is muay thai without elbow and knee strikes? If you agree, you may watch this vidoe, watch?v=6iDlzL7zrNU&feature=related , and see how effective boxing can be.
TAC412 1 year ago
@kyle1815 So well I guess it comes into individuals then. And when I said that muay boran fighters fought and killed each other, they did it to make sure it'd work in real life. You dont want to just simulate the situations right? You want to fight with a real person who can actually move and have two hands to protect himself.
TAC412 1 year ago
@TAC412 i agree with your statement about boxing. but its only effective when the boxer is up against one person with no wepons.
kyle1815 1 year ago
@kyle1815 So it's usuful in streets :)
TAC412 1 year ago
@TAC412 yes... to an extent
kyle1815 1 year ago
@MrMannerheim aikido does work and well capoeira is fun but youre right its basically useless, and muay thai is good i wouldnt consider it to be the best..
yannymclint5 1 year ago
@MrMannerheim muay thai is highly effective especially aginst untrained ppl but it is not the best stand up style. 1st it isnt a lethal style(witch is why its used in mma sport fighting) 2nd muay thai fighters still get hit a lot((giving crowd appeal, (both fighters getting the crap beat out of them) )). there are styles of martial arts that are made to kill and stlyes of martial arts that if your good you shouldnt get touched.
MDNSBS 1 year ago
@MrMannerheim I Agree, this is bs doesnt work when someone is ACTUALLY trying to attack you... (Like when his partner gets double wrist control from the back on him... and he just turns out and gains wrist control???)
MrJgraham91 1 year ago
@MrJgraham91 trust me it does.. im 15 , learned aikido for 3 years and it helped a lot.. up in school this foo tried to fight me and he started doing all these wack ass moves as if he was a boxer or if he knew how to fight..
fcbigb 1 year ago
@MrJgraham91 and he just started throwing punches at me.. i just kept balance blocked his punches .. the dude was unbalanced all over the place.. and i found an opening and threw a blow to a pressure pint below the ear close to the neck.. and the dude just fell and .. what a punk ass . i thought but then i got suspended for using aikido... technically..
fcbigb 1 year ago
@MrMannerheim lol bro have you ever tried aikido ??? you can't talk about the aikido when you have never tried it ...
DaceManUtd 1 year ago
@MrMannerheim Thats bulshit, you have to practicaly master Aikido for it to work in a real life situation. Whereas you can take some of the stuff from contact martial arts home after every session.

Great video!! I have trained muay thai. I'm about to start aikido, because i don't find here where i live a real aikido academy. I want to ask, is traditional aikido effective in street? are there many differences between traditional and real aikido? hope you answer me, thanks!!
galvanized1 2 years ago 26
@galvanized1
thanks. I am sending info about Real Aikido to your channel.
fnsnfar 2 years ago 3
@galvanized1 trditional aikido is an art where you can depend yourself without causing harm to your opponent. Im a member of kubujutso ryu in the philippines where we practices combat aikido mixed with arnis and sword fighting. we adopt our techniques in actual street fighting. its good to start with trditional aikido, then mixed it with other martial art to be more effective. see some steven seagal movies.
JINGSEIT123 1 year ago 3
@galvanized1 yes it is.. got in a fight at school .. last year.. i had studied aikido for 3 years.. and one day this foo wants to fight me.. he came at me with several punches.. and i saw he was unbalanced.. came into one punch , hand over the shoulder.. and sweeped him with my right leg, down.. then i just started punching him... got suspended for that fight in school tho
fcbigb 1 year ago
@galvanized1 traditional is always better trust me :)

nice technique, the only flaw you have, is that you don't know how to punch or kick
AGanimeH 2 years ago
Interesting video. The music however is deeply disappointing: why do Japanese martial arts always have to be accompanied with this ridiculous music? The music suggests an agressive spirit in those arts, while inner calm in execution is THE point.
stefandetrez 2 years ago
nice video but try doing your techniques against real attacks.....it's highly unlikely to get grabbed by the wrist or to get attacked as in your video. if you can get your techniques to work against a real punch both trained and untrained it's great, otherwise be careful the tsuki attacks in a gym are very different from a boxer's/karateka's punch
rauldeva 2 years ago 2
@rauldeva I know.thanks.I will try my best.
fnsnfar 2 years ago
I'm glad to hear you're open-minded, that's extremely important. I'm sure you'll be able to adapt to various situations if you train for them, for example against an untrained hook punch attack which is quite frequent on the streets your techniques should work nicely. I wish you all the best and keep training, you've got great potential.
rauldeva 2 years ago 6
@rauldeva remember too you might take a punch in the process try not to freak out. Some people as soon as they get hit they forget everything.
zoocop 1 year ago
@zoocop true.. i studied aikido for 3 years.. im 15 now and yeah it happened to me at school .. got punched twice but was still able to pull through and was able to bring the dude down...
