People that say today's hip hop sucks haven't kept an ear to the underground. Some GREAT work being put out there and it's slept on like a mattress. REKS, Substantial, Statik Selectah, Nujabes, BLU, Elzhi, Funky DL from Britain, Saigon, Phonte from Little Brother, Supastition, Dela the french hip hop producer...so many great acts, but people still say today's hip hop sucks. WRONG. Today's pop music, which happens to be hip hop, SUCKS. But the underground is alive and well
masta ace is illwitit...im from texas n i jam out to real hiphop..i like alil now days work not to much..why would i want to front on yall..theres a group where im from type in P.K.O - allday sunday..its the same melody but totally different flow n lyrics..old gfunk from the 90s..
I fuck with Masta Ace. Dope song, but more importantly, he's an East coast cat, in the middle of the East vs West beef and he's kicking it with Cali cats in Cali with lowridres and shit spreading love. Props for that! Real G shit!
@NetherDuck Nothing But a G Thang was actually sampled from Leon Haywood's track, "I wanna do something freaky to you" in 1975-1976. Pull it up on You Tube. This song sampled "Livin for the Love of you" by the Isley Brothers and the Leon Haywood track.
wish music would come back to this,im from the south, but sum artist shouldnt be rapping, they are doin music now for money, not because they love to do it.
i miss the mid-90s,G-funk era, my 87 black 5.0 gt with tops, hot 90s hip-hop girls,2 gf's at the same time, getting stopped for drinkin & cops let you go home, boomin' system when people would actually turn around to see whos bumpin'. Every weekend late night partys too young to worry about of gettin old, oh well...
Ahhh the 90's. What a great era, when talented and creative blacks made great music. Fixing up cars and trying to get the latest sub woofers... Mustang 5.0's and Blazers with switches, those were the days! now everything is just crap, "how famous can I be" mentality.
@pedrokid77 YEAH ...U KNOW UR DEF RIGHT CUZ THIS WAS A CLASSIC BACK IN DA DAYS IN THE MID 90'S BUT IF THIS WAS TO COME OUT TODAY IN 2012..PEOPLE WOULD SAY IT WOULD SUCK....THEY WOULD HAVE TO HAD LIVED IT IN OUR ERA TO APPRICIATE IT NOW
I think back to my senior year of high school 1995-96 when this joint dropped i'm so glad to have been raised during the 1980's & 90's the best time in my life i know i'm old to the people who don't dig the old school shit and yall got love for this new-school shit can go right to hell.......
@summermadness1984 I love how they focused on other peoples' rides cruising around. Astro vans, civics, jetta's. Nothing special by todays standards. But that wasn't the point back then. It was deeper than that. They made this music for us and them. Not for money.
@relaxitsonlyagame so true man.. thats why i love this video its so real.. none of this fake rented benz shit in videos now, like who are they marketing toward??
How did such a west coast vibe and sound come from an east coast rapper? How did Masta Ace not get shot at while in L.A? Wasn't the east vs. west beef happenin' in '95?
Real hip hop at its best all praise to dudes like Masta Ace, Large Professor, EdoG and any other artist keepin 100.... FUCK THESE DUDE KISSIN DUDE RAPPERS
I recall A LOT of artists sampled the beat to this track around that period (an Isley brothers original beat)...Da Brat, Smooth, Biggie (I think) etc...
This video strike a cord from those in that era. Immediately takes you back. I never forget rollin down 7th ave in Ybor then cut'n over to Clearwater beach. So many house parties.
u ain't lying scoob, things ain't like they use to be I thought it I was just trippin but I remember how it felt so good to be rollin with the bass and rims and blunts. Now I stay in Dallas and I can't find anywhere to cruise and chill its all bs. I gotta box chevy with 22 inch blades in 95 I had a maxima with 13 inch daytons and hydrolics damn I like the old days better.
I really loved this song when it came out and every time I hear it - it just sends me back to those nights where me and my friends would just cruise around the city just chilling out. Looking for honeys and maybe some dinner after a night of strip clubs, night clubs and riding around Clifton Hill. What happen to smooth laid back songs like this?
"You're in a Lexus, or Blazer. You're in a Beamer, or a Benz. You're in a Corvette, or a Nissan. You're in a Sidekick, wit your friends. You're in a Caddy, a Land cruiser- a Range Rover, a Mustang. You're in a Burban with ten woofers. Then your system, it must bang" - Sweet!
