Uriah hello! you are an extraordinary bass player and consider myself a follower of your videos have a great style, I think you have a micro q tron after mxr. I have one as well but I have a problem with the volume when I switch it sounds very strong, it's normal? or as you solve that? thank you and sorry for my English. greetings from peru
i hate to ask you another gear question.. but what is that in your rack above your amp? it shows db levels? is it a compressor or something? if you dont mind sharing, i would appreciate it.
@udawggy is that bass better than the Darryl Jones signature lakland bass? im just about to take a decision between an american standar jazz bass or a lakland :S
Wow Uriah great video. Thanks. You really helped showing the tracking stability. Obviously you know your stuff - I have tried loads of (mainly digital) octaves only to get flipped off by wavering low notes. Its sick to see you track a low E! It must sound crazy low at your house.
Great playing and good attitude this really helps as I have never seen this pedal before. Keep up the good work!
@adurgaram That's my fav cab- I've had it since 1995. It's an Eden D410T (not the D410XLT). It has one port on the back rather than the bigger rectangular ports on the front like the XLT. The speakers are Tune Tubby Super Boys. This is the best bass cab I've ever heard- for me.
@200909will I like everything at noon. For a more electronic or dubby sound though, I'll bring the dry signal down between 12 & 9oclock. I also like the mid shift button in to help cut thru.
That may be the best bass octave pedal... but the Subwave effect contained in SWR amps is the absolute best octaver made today! NEVER peters out! I have this on my SWR 750X bass amp head and I LOVET IT!!
5:13 Is "flobbery" even a word?!? If not, it should be now. Damn you Uriah Duffy!! (shakes fist at sky) - between yours and Bryan Beller's videos I *had* to spring for an MXR M82 Bass Envelope Filter, and I had just upgraded my chorus to a T-Rex unit, grabbed a custom "Loop-Master" loop-switcher that was on sale (they *never* are) and the guts of my main basses wired up with new preamps and pickups (Custom-wound Nordstrand Big Singles and Aguilar OBP-3s)... now you expect me to by this?!? ;-)
What's the preamp on that bass? 2 band replacement? Or did it come in there stock? Last I remember Laklands didn't have stock preamps like that I but I don't really know much about them.
@Tooltrocity This is a USA Joe Osborne Lakland with Lakland pickups and an Aguilar OBP-3 I had them put in. I LOVE my Laklands- 2 USA, and two Skylines... All Da Bomb-diggity!
Hey man, Nasty tone bro!! Great tutorial, I dig it and just got my pedal today. Quick question is that a 4/12 cab? and if so what make/model it's BADASS and I want one too...
This guy PLAYS a lot, talks as much as needed and knows what any demo should be like - respect! I will recommend that blue wonder to my bassist immediately.
Can anyone tell me when effects pedals for BASS guitars started? It seemes like the bass was basically ignored for years as the guitar had all the innovations
Can an octave pedal be set to play the octave ABOVE the note played? I'm looking to create a sound when I play my bass that sounds like a guitar is following the notes and octave above.
thats awesome dude, is it greatly different from say the boss oc2 octaver, i find it pretty gopod for bass mind u ive had the pedal from the mid 90's still in great nick the pedal is ? thanx & g'day from australia :)
Most the sound is the way you play. The rest is the set up of the bass. I keep it set up for a bit of fret buzz, which makes it easy to sound strong when you dig in hard. John Entwhistle from The Who does this finger slap type thing too.
How do you get such a sound just by plucking the strings? It almost sounds like your slapping. Were you really in those bands? I don't know much about White Snake and those other bands, I just heard of them, that's all.
haha when i saw whitesnake i judged im not gonna lie....hate them. youre killing though man. nasty stuff. great tone and fantastic demo.....aside from the song at the end haha
I use a pedalboard on a very small percentage of gigs, and other than the cool effects on there, the tone is usually WORSENED- not enhanced. The most consistency in someone's tone, I've noticed, is in the hands & fingers.
Shit! To the person that posted last... I accidentally erased your comment- sorry- I was trying to reply. You stated I probably go thru a bunch of other stuff to get my tone, but that is very incorrect. All the pedals displayed are on bypass (actually TRUE-bypass, with the exception of the wah), and the octave is engaged as that's what I'm talking about in the vid.
It's everything you hear in the video. I got it when it first came out and I still love it! You can really customize it to your taste. I like it subtle with the dry all the way up (full clockwise) with a little growl and a little more girth. Keep your playing clean and this puppy will sing. With some settings you can kinda hear 5ths being voiced. Very wicked indeed. Uriah you are a bad ass bass player!!!!!
Forgot to mention...running this pedal after a compressor is killer. I'm using the EBS multi-comp. A very tight sound...seems to be the icing on the cake for me.
Uriah, do you have an opinion on this pedal vs. the blue box octave/fuzz pedal mxr makes? I'm looking to buy an octave pedal and I don't know if I should go with an MXR or a Boss pedal. thanks man!
An Advise: this MXR is so much better than Boss dude... if u can try it yourself before u buy it would be better. .. but this MXR is clean and punchy.
i thought u were using a fender...now that i look at your bridge i see that its a lakland..am i correct?...far out..i knew your tone was too good for a jazz..
Nah- I only use the Wide Black Planet Waves straps. The Mono ones (not in this vid) are awesome, but not slippery enough for me swingin the bass around and shite. If you're not doing circus tricks with the bass, it may be for you.
Hey Uriah love your Funk !....just curious as about what else you have there on your pedal board,..I see Dunlop bass wah and what I think is a qtron..hard to tell..
Well I really screwed up when I sold my Ampeg Sub-Blaster Octave Bass pedal. I meant to replace it but it got discontinued. It was by far the BEST bass octave I had ever played. I swear to God it tracked a de-tuned low D on my Jazz bass if I kept the bridge p/u all the way up. I think this MXR may be the only thing reasonable to now replace my lost Ampeg. This is a superb demo here.
btw--flatwound strings sound really awesome with an octave pedal. Very smooth and creamier than roundwounds
It looks to be a Lakland Joe Osborne - it's pretty close to a "standard" Jazz bass body style, while the Darryl Jones is more of a "Modern" Jazz Bass shape with extended cutaways and horns, and a downsized body like a Sadowsky 24-fret 4 & 5-strings, or Mike Lull's Modern 4XL or 5.
Damn man, everytime i listen to this i'm astonished by your funky licks man,, but i was wondering whats the exact model lakland you use in this vid? that thing is AWESOME that pedal to though:D let me know so i know what to buy :) Peace! bbBassYo
1) An octave below notes lower than a low E? I bet you have a kick-ass amp!
2) I doubt it, since most analog octave pedals cannot do this. EBS claims that their latest version can, but I couldn't get it to work. The POGs can do chords, but the tone is sterile.
I want this video on my SGD-102 phone.

great bassist, great demo, 4 star review!
i deducted a star because of two reasons:
1) he didn't demonstrate if this pedal works with any note lower than an E1, ie. he should've showed how it works w/ a 5-string bass
2) this entire demo was just single-note melodies. in other words, he didn't show if this pedal works with chords or not
i hope that someone could help me w/ my questions....thanks

Dude- Great to hear from ya! Hey- we'll be back in the UK in June- hope you can make it out!
So yeah- It's a custom USA Osborne. It has been far exceeding my expectations everytime I gig with it. Unreal. See ya soon!
