  • I want this video on my SGD-102 phone.

  • Your video went viral on Paraguay

  • ok... your cool dude so basicly that pedal is awesome haha

  • Dear god....... I'd kill for your clean tone/technique.....

    Pedal sounds good too.

  • What Lyrics Born's song is that at 0.21??

  • @bassdominos That's some live only shite right thurrrr! We do a funk jam at the end of "Stop Complaining", which sometimes includes some D-Train.

  • @udawggy But it's cool althought!

  • What do you think about E-H MicroPOG ? Because I think this pedal have more punch a lot !

  • Thanks for the demo- especially the info about tracking. :-)

  • Hi Uriah Duffy,

I live next door and my house is still rattling from your playing. Please Move!

    Thanks,

    Josie

  • @dezziwood555 yeah its been rattling for 2 years ay

  • @dezziwood555 LOL !!

  • how did u get the lakland DJ?! i cant find it anywhere

  • I bought the Boss OC-3 and I should have bought the MXR 288!!!

  • just out of curiosity, what's the Eden cab you're using here?

  • i came to that bass tone !

  • does this work with a guitar? xD

  • What is the Lyrics Born song at the beginning? Thanks.

  • Uriah hello! you are an extraordinary bass player and consider myself a follower of your videos have a great style, I think you have a micro q tron after mxr. I have one as well but I have a problem with the volume when I switch it sounds very strong, it's normal? or as you solve that? thank you and sorry for my English. greetings from peru

  • hi uriah :) are you using some reverb?

  • that bass sounds sooo goood.. and the player is great

  • Will it track the low b on a five string?

  • @grandmasterdeafchild Unlikely. Most octavers will struggle below a C on the A string. But this pedal goes down to a open A string.

  • woah ..whitesnake!!

  • can you please do a hammer on demo

  • I got to get one!!

  • ooh an Eden World Tour!

  • I keep coming back to this video just to hear you play. You sir, are a funk machine.

  • I'm sold!

  • good review

  • i hate to ask you another gear question.. but what is that in your rack above your amp? it shows db levels? is it a compressor or something? if you dont mind sharing, i would appreciate it.

  • @Samitch04 X2 Digital Wireless. Yeah, It sounds that good.

  • @udawggy Hell yeah, I got an X2 rack nad it's AWESOME.

  • dude ill bet your neihbors hate you.

  • uriah, could you take us through what preamp your running on your lakland? or were you running this as passive for this demo?

    cheers!

  • @edenite That's a USA joe Osborne Lakland, with an Aguilar OBP-3 preamp in it. I'm running it flat.

  • @udawggy is that bass better than the Darryl Jones signature lakland bass? im just about to take a decision between an american standar jazz bass or a lakland :S

btw i love your custom fender jazz bass

  • @edenite That's a USA joe Osborne Lakland, with an Aguilar OBP-3 preamp in it. I'm running it flat.

  • Wow Uriah great video. Thanks. You really helped showing the tracking stability. Obviously you know your stuff - I have tried loads of (mainly digital) octaves only to get flipped off by wavering low notes. Its sick to see you track a low E! It must sound crazy low at your house.

Great playing and good attitude this really helps as I have never seen this pedal before. Keep up the good work!

  • is that a Lakland jazz bass?

  • @PennybagDarrell Yeah, you can tell by the bridge

  • @PennybagDarrell Yup- A US Joe Osborne

  • man youve got groove

  • hey, this may be a stupid question, but what scales do you use for this solo?

  • That is the best bass sound I have ever heard!!!

  • Which cabinet are you using here ?

  • @adurgaram That's my fav cab- I've had it since 1995. It's an Eden D410T (not the D410XLT). It has one port on the back rather than the bigger rectangular ports on the front like the XLT. The speakers are Tune Tubby Super Boys. This is the best bass cab I've ever heard- for me.

  • Great pedal review, thanks. What's your preferred settings on the MXR ?

  • @200909will I like everything at noon. For a more electronic or dubby sound though, I'll bring the dry signal down between 12 & 9oclock. I also like the mid shift button in to help cut thru.

  • @udawggy Hi, thanks for the info. Do you like the mid shift at 400 hz or 850 hz, sounds like 400 hz in the video.

  • That may be the best bass octave pedal... but the Subwave effect contained in SWR amps is the absolute best octaver made today! NEVER peters out! I have this on my SWR 750X bass amp head and I LOVET IT!!

  • How about using this on a 5 string Music Man Sterling? B String??

  • sweet 'verb goin on there

  • @BassDude50000 No verb- just the room sound- so I guess it's natural verb

  • Hi There!

    Have you tried Aguilar's Octamizer?

How is it's tracking compared to the MXR

    Thanks and regards

  • how whold this sound with active pickups? because i have a jackson five string with actives and some other pedals dont do so well with them.

  • Hey uriah! great stuff ur showing here, bro! Ive been desired a EBS octaver for a long time, but this sound is KILLER!

but man, ur handlin a Q-Tron on this video. I liked the MXR envelope too, but the Q-Tron is a classic, isnt it?

  • 5:13 Is "flobbery" even a word?!? If not, it should be now. Damn you Uriah Duffy!! (shakes fist at sky) - between yours and Bryan Beller's videos I *had* to spring for an MXR M82 Bass Envelope Filter, and I had just upgraded my chorus to a T-Rex unit, grabbed a custom "Loop-Master" loop-switcher that was on sale (they *never* are) and the guts of my main basses wired up with new preamps and pickups (Custom-wound Nordstrand Big Singles and Aguilar OBP-3s)... now you expect me to by this?!? ;-)

  • idk if you can hear, but thats rattling the house!

  • You should try it with a +1 Octave, not -1.

  • What are the settings on your wt-800, what brand of 4x10 cab is that, and what pedals do you have on your pedalboard?

  • What's the preamp on that bass? 2 band replacement? Or did it come in there stock? Last I remember Laklands didn't have stock preamps like that I but I don't really know much about them.

  • @Tooltrocity This is a USA Joe Osborne Lakland with Lakland pickups and an Aguilar OBP-3 I had them put in. I LOVE my Laklands- 2 USA, and two Skylines... All Da Bomb-diggity!

  • I like the way Uriah plays.Very cool.

  • Hey man, Nasty tone bro!! Great tutorial, I dig it and just got my pedal today. Quick question is that a 4/12 cab? and if so what make/model it's BADASS and I want one too...

  • do you think you could a guitar through this pedal?

  • @punkunion2 Yeah man, there are a couple vids out there with people using it for guitar too, still sounds amazing...

  • @punkunion2 yah you can use almost any pedal with bass and guitar it might sound a little different but still good.

  • nice playing

  • I really like this and m82 pedal demos you've done. they're really great at giving a full idea of what these pedals do.

I'm starting to get into pedals an I was wondering what sort of bass pedals are a must for any board and what's especially good for funk sounds?

  • aaaaa~~ i can feel the octaves flowing through my body =D

  • WOW!!! that X2 sounds Amazing!!!!

  • This guy PLAYS a lot, talks as much as needed and knows what any demo should be like - respect! I will recommend that blue wonder to my bassist immediately.

    Thumbs up!

  • seriously....you should do TONS and TONS of Bass Demo's!

Us Bottom Dwellers need to hear some funky thump like this as much as possible!

    Stupendous Review!

  • Yeahh finally getting the MXR288 today :D:D:D:D love it!

  • howdy all- top to bottom in the rack: Furman power strip conditioner thing, X2 Digital wireless (yes- it's sounds THAT good), Eden WT-800.

  • Yo udawggy I'm a big fan - what floor stuff do u use? I can see the CryBaby Bass Wah and the MXR 288, can I pry what else u use?

    Nick

  • Is that an Eden Navigator WP100 preamp in his rig? What else is he running it through? Anyway, that guy has TONE! And his groove is great.

  • nice playing! You did your homework.

  • ottima amplificazione david eden bravo bassista e il gioco e fatto ciao uriah

  • Good review. Thanks!

    What kinda bass is that?

  • Lakland Joe Osborne Jazz Bass I think

  • dude I'm glad I don't live upstairs from you!

  • TONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 2:30 - OK im just going to check if it's bypassed.

  • Its Been A While Since I've Been So Impressed By A Bassists Playing. His Tone And Touch Are So Good.

  • amazing tone at 2:31!!! what kind of pick up's and pre amp are in your fender?

  • I think that might be a Lakland.

  • duffster... this is a GREAT sounding video!!!

  • nice chops!

  • ...I want that thing.

  • Haha, very nice and funny:D!

And I think I'm gonna buy it now!

    BTW, you play so groovy!

  • holy S*** ! your sound is just insane. I mean even without thr MXR bass whatever... great style and great gear! love it! More please ;-)

  • omg excellent video. as soon as i get enough money im getting one!

  • Just sold me.

  • Can anyone tell me when effects pedals for BASS guitars started? It seemes like the bass was basically ignored for years as the guitar had all the innovations

  • Dunno but bootsy and larry graham already used them in the '70's

  • Thanks for the info yorisii!

  • Can an octave pedal be set to play the octave ABOVE the note played? I'm looking to create a sound when I play my bass that sounds like a guitar is following the notes and octave above.

  • if you're looking for octave above try the whammy pedal or boss super (pitch) shifter

  • Thanks for the info, Benayrsty!

  • Hey man, I have a funk band and we need a really good bass player. You wanna come play bass with my band man?

  • But you also gotta give some props to that sexy Eden head and cab

  • WHAT A BASS!!!!!

  • Awesome pedal...and great tone. Looks like a Lakland bass. Nice playing Uriah!

  • "flobbering"... ;-)

I love that he uses the word twice. Once, it's a made up word; twice, it's a real word. (I know I'll be using it from now on.)

    Excellent instructional demonstration. Well done!

  • Damn man, everytime i watch this i gey blown away:D love the setup man... sick sound! :D nice cab too:)

  • thats one mean jazz

  • nice tone

  • thats awesome dude, is it greatly different from say the boss oc2 octaver, i find it pretty gopod for bass mind u ive had the pedal from the mid 90's still in great nick the pedal is ? thanx & g'day from australia :)

  • Sounds great man. Now I've got to scrounge some cash to buy one of these bad boys...

  • mxr i mean

  • well msr is truly amazing!! what else do you have in the pedal board? :))

  • Lets see, I see a EHX Qtron of some sort, a Dunlop 105Q, MXr, and possibly a Korg Pitchblack.

    A few others, cant tell.

  • Most the sound is the way you play. The rest is the set up of the bass. I keep it set up for a bit of fret buzz, which makes it easy to sound strong when you dig in hard. John Entwhistle from The Who does this finger slap type thing too.

  • How do you get such a sound just by plucking the strings? It almost sounds like your slapping. Were you really in those bands? I don't know much about White Snake and those other bands, I just heard of them, that's all.

  • excellent demo! Please posting more. That tone you are getting is insane.

  • haha when i saw whitesnake i judged im not gonna lie....hate them. youre killing though man. nasty stuff. great tone and fantastic demo.....aside from the song at the end haha

  • I use a pedalboard on a very small percentage of gigs, and other than the cool effects on there, the tone is usually WORSENED- not enhanced. The most consistency in someone's tone, I've noticed, is in the hands & fingers.

  • Shit! To the person that posted last... I accidentally erased your comment- sorry- I was trying to reply. You stated I probably go thru a bunch of other stuff to get my tone, but that is very incorrect. All the pedals displayed are on bypass (actually TRUE-bypass, with the exception of the wah), and the octave is engaged as that's what I'm talking about in the vid.

  • i'll only buy this pedal cause of the amazing bass player giving the demo! he has so much feel in his hands..

  • It's everything you hear in the video. I got it when it first came out and I still love it! You can really customize it to your taste. I like it subtle with the dry all the way up (full clockwise) with a little growl and a little more girth. Keep your playing clean and this puppy will sing. With some settings you can kinda hear 5ths being voiced. Very wicked indeed. Uriah you are a bad ass bass player!!!!!

  • Forgot to mention...running this pedal after a compressor is killer. I'm using the EBS multi-comp. A very tight sound...seems to be the icing on the cake for me.

  • just got it last week, the best octave pedal i ever tried... EBS, boss and even EHX aren't close to this one... amazing man

  • Uriah, do you have an opinion on this pedal vs. the blue box octave/fuzz pedal mxr makes? I'm looking to buy an octave pedal and I don't know if I should go with an MXR or a Boss pedal. thanks man!

  • An Advise: this MXR is so much better than Boss dude... if u can try it yourself before u buy it would be better. .. but this MXR is clean and punchy.

  • i thought u were using a fender...now that i look at your bridge i see that its a lakland..am i correct?...far out..i knew your tone was too good for a jazz..

  • Yes it is a Lakland Osbourne.

  • This pedal would sound SICK with an Ebow! =0

  • Whats happnin Uriah

I see you use the mono straps

are they good? Would you recommend them?

    cheers

  • Nah- I only use the Wide Black Planet Waves straps. The Mono ones (not in this vid) are awesome, but not slippery enough for me swingin the bass around and shite. If you're not doing circus tricks with the bass, it may be for you.

  • i must have watched this video atleast 4 times every day...and i most probably will keep doing it until my pedal arrives...i cant wait..

  • Hey Uriah love your Funk !....just curious as about what else you have there on your pedal board,..I see Dunlop bass wah and what I think is a qtron..hard to tell..

  • right to left: tuner, dunlop bass wah, mxr288 bass octave, micro q-tron so I can pretend to play like Hadrian, MXR El Grande fuzz.

  • It sounds like 2 signals: The original plus the octave down... And my question is:

Is there any way to kill the original signal and play only the octave down?

    Thanks.

  • It's three signals: Regular, and two diff types of 1 octave down- one gritty and one smooth. For octave only, see 1:45

  • Thanks a lot!!!

I doubt too much about this one and EBS Octabass...

  • 5:12 "Flobbering" :-D

Way funky playing - very nice.

  • I SAW WHITE SNAKE IN KIEV!!!

  • Well I really screwed up when I sold my Ampeg Sub-Blaster Octave Bass pedal. I meant to replace it but it got discontinued. It was by far the BEST bass octave I had ever played. I swear to God it tracked a de-tuned low D on my Jazz bass if I kept the bridge p/u all the way up. I think this MXR may be the only thing reasonable to now replace my lost Ampeg. This is a superb demo here.

btw--flatwound strings sound really awesome with an octave pedal. Very smooth and creamier than roundwounds

  • His sound is god damn funky, which bass and pick ups are that?

  • A Lakland Darryl Jones, with what look like Lakland pups.

  • It looks to be a Lakland Joe Osborne - it's pretty close to a "standard" Jazz bass body style, while the Darryl Jones is more of a "Modern" Jazz Bass shape with extended cutaways and horns, and a downsized body like a Sadowsky 24-fret 4 & 5-strings, or Mike Lull's Modern 4XL or 5.

  • Damn man, everytime i listen to this i'm astonished by your funky licks man,, but i was wondering whats the exact model lakland you use in this vid? that thing is AWESOME that pedal to though:D let me know so i know what to buy :) Peace! bbBassYo

  • I bought this pedal. Thanks Uriah for the great demo.

  • Uriah would look and sound amazing if he were sitting there eating a bowl of mac and cheese.

  • great bassist, great demo, 4 star review!

i deducted a star because of two reasons:

    1) he didn't demonstrate if this pedal works with any note lower than an E1, ie. he should've showed how it works w/ a 5-string bass

    2) this entire demo was just single-note melodies. in other words, he didn't show if this pedal works with chords or not

i hope that someone could help me w/ my questions....thanks

  • 1) An octave below notes lower than a low E? I bet you have a kick-ass amp!

    2) I doubt it, since most analog octave pedals cannot do this. EBS claims that their latest version can, but I couldn't get it to work. The POGs can do chords, but the tone is sterile.

  • Yeah- this is a very practical Octave pedal, but bonus points for thinking outside the box.

  • Awesome pedal ... the "grit" knob is sublime. Are you also using compression?

  • I meant "growl" knob ... sweet!

  • this is making me really want an octaver now. BTW what head is that you're running through?

  • My lil rack (top to bottom): Furman Power Conditioner, X2 Digital Wireless, Eden WT800

  • Yo, U, bitchin vid my friend the tone just OOOOOOOOOOOZEZ out :)

Is that a USA or Korean Joe Osborne?

    Keep it on the one

    Mark,,,

  • Dude- Great to hear from ya! Hey- we'll be back in the UK in June- hope you can make it out!

So yeah- It's a custom USA Osborne. It has been far exceeding my expectations everytime I gig with it. Unreal. See ya soon!

  • really funny vid ..wishing me there were duffy vids for more bass products ..lol.. so fucking great

  • Hah- Maybe I'll do the next one with my Brother Dorian- also a bassist. Now we just need to find a product... Hmmm...

  • Uriah methinks you've just sold a few thousand of these sparkly blue babies.

    Including one to me!

  • Nice DAWG!!!!

  • lol the original video didnt have the intro.

  • If only these equipment allowed us to sound as good as you. One can only wish!

  • Sick bass, sick setup.. Even better sound =D

  • Uriah cool video, lovely introduction:), great sound i hope your house wont demolish :)

  • Hi is the pedal true bypass as I am really thinking of getting it.

    Thanks

  • Yes!

  • Amazing tone and amazing playing. I envy your bass prowess

  • Another video? , I say the same , great pedal , great demo and great play Uriah ;)

  • You are truly an awesome player! Love the video!
