Paganism, animism and polytheistic religions came first with animism the first in Africa followed by Eastern religions and paganism in Europe as humans spread themselves out. I can't see ever going. I hate few things more than cars and places where you can't get around without one. And I grew up in Beverly Hills watching rich people's wealth more or less ruin their lives, so I'm not terribly impressed by opulence either. It just makes me self-conscious about my clothes and posture. I do like technology, but I'd rather go see the LHC than the Burj Dubai.
I do however respect the UAE governments attempts to plan for its future. I think this a wise move for them.

I do wish them well, but I think the smartest thing the government there is doing is taking educating their people very seriously. A 12 to 1 student to teacher ratio is amazing. Tourism is ultimately a very low margin industry. To really have a great nation you must extremely well educated and highly trained people. And I just don't see how any religion can survive in an environment where people are educated. Maxwell Planck just doesn't leave much room for magical critters to root about.
