  • WOW!!!...that was AWESOME!!!!!!

  • Not only celts were in spain. Many other european nations came to our country but...could you tell me, where is the celtic influence in the flamenco culture??? did you know that there are many juden influences in our "jarchas" even in our "cante jondo" and the strcture of many songs are the same than byzantine chorus....Spain its a european country yes, but mixed with other east-cultures: Madrid has a non indoeuropean name, its a arabian name. Mad-herit.

  • I just creamed my panties watching this man!

  • BADASSSSSSSSSSSSS!

  • I know this guy! I used to perform right there too!

  • QUE HOMBREEEE ¡¡¡ TAN EXQUISITO ¡¡¡ MIRA QUE ME PONE ME PONE

  • thank u, Iran has a great history too.

  • wow Just Greath.

  • Thanks for posting this. Flamenco is a very energetic and athletic dance. The great Carmen Amaya and many of her ilk have kept it alive and thriving.

  • I am a flamenco amateur and a Spaniard. This is a poor performance, but good enough for a Brazilian who just arrived in Spain and looking for a mean to make some money. But it is poor flamenco. I have seen children and many street dancers perform much better. And the guy at the cajon sucks tremendousely.

  • Bruce Lee meets Flamenco! Amazing :)

  • heyy, where is my wallet ? lmao jk

  • He used to stay on a campsite in Sitges then train it in to busk for the evening.

  • This guy is Brazilian, My wife and I were busking didjeridu on la Ramblas as well at this time. What a great thing to stumble upon while out for a 11pm stroll?!!?!! BCN rocks.. gotta love it

  • Flamenco dancing entails movement full of FEELING in the chest, hands, hips, and !the face expressions, wow! This guy is really amazing at heel stomping, but he needs to work on all the other 8 parts that require connectivity. He could be amazing.

  • Good but it gets old quickly

  • Plutonwolf, you hit the nail on the head, women want this ....it is HOT !

  • ..interplay, no collaboration between his dance and the drumbeats!

As I said, nice try and good effort but it sure ain´t Flamenco!

  • @Khwaab +1

  • I wish the cameraguy could stay quiet.....his comments in ghetto Swedish are a bit irritating.

First time I saw this, I was impressed too. But after really finding out about Flamenco...this seems so strange. I´d call it zapateado at its most but...this is not Flamenco.

Nice try though. After seeing Eva la Yerbabuena...this seems so silly. The drummer guy isn´t even changing the rhythm, the dancer isn´t using his hands (first time he does that is after about 3 min) and there´s no interplay...

  • HE IS QUITE GOOD. WOW!

  • @MultiPinillos , although doesn´t matter at all...this guy is not spanish...he´s accent is a bit italian...i think

music and passion doesn´t have to do with nationalities or origin

  • He should be on a stage in the US making mucho dinero

  • muito legal

  • Mats dont hit back!

  • Does anyone know who this guy is? I would love to hire him for a gig

  • That is so amazing and indeed,

  • I prefer a more aggressive flamenco, but this gentleman is a m a z i n g.

  • :Q_____

  • Although considered part of the culture of Spain in general, flamenco actually originates from one region: Andalusia. However, other areas, mainly Extremadura and Murcia, have contributed to the development of several flamenco musical forms, and a great number of renowned flamenco artists have been born in other territories of the state.

The roots of flamenco are not precisely known, but it is generally acknowledged that flamenco grew out of the unique interplay of native Andalusian, Islamic,

  • Bravo

It's amazing how this guy can dance , I am a passionate been of Flamenco Dance , if this guy was not spaniel !!!! Then he was from another planet ....

    Bravo y que Viva España

    Spain Champions of the world

  • well to the english speakers, i am hyperventalating , as a Spaniard this man is a God to me, wowsah! damn! He can do His thing and i say His thing because His spanish is got an accent so the more feeling to Him. Fucking amazing and pure passion. Who is He???

  • who cares if he dances with his shirt off, the point is he's good and that's all that matters

  • AMAZING Flamenco dancer in Barcelona

  • those triplets at around 1:30 were intense

  • Sooo hot, sensual and sexy dance...wanna learn it

  • I'm an Assyrian, a person of Middle Eastern background, n we have a Mideastern restaurant in Chicago. I can Assure anyone here that this kind of solo dancing is maybe 99% Spanish origin, if not 100%, because Assyrians, Arabs, Greeks, Jews, Armenians, Persians have mostly Line-Dances.

Greeks have the Zorba dance, but no where near the intensity of this style here. If anything, there might be an influence from the Caucasian Dances, or vice versa, as they too have amazingly fast solo dances.

  • Trying to define Flamenco today is like trying to define Jazz. Yes, you can be a purist, but the best performers are those who grow just as Flamenco has grown since it was termed Flamenco. "The more you study Flamenco, the more you realize how much more there is to learn." First and foremost, it's a dance of passion and it's having duende when you let go and give yourself to the music.

  • I don't say he is lousy in his dance though, what I don't get is why he had to dance with his shirt off!!

  • @mariecandoanything

He had to dance with his shirt off only because he has been dancing for soo long that his shirt was more then water.

  • Some of the best music I heard in Barcelona was by a Roma on the Subway, not far from where this was filmed.

  • WOW...a heavy footed stomper does not a flamenco dancer make. For a true Bailaor look up José Greco, and witness mastery.

  • Que cuerpaso! El Bruce Lee del baile.

  • Sorry, but he is not Spanish and that's not flamenco. It is an oily man making noise with his feet.

If you want to see flamenco, searching for "Sara Baras", for example.

  • @kelnaya Why do we have to label whether it's flamenco or not.. I would like to see you dance like he does, he is just not making noise with his feet.. your comment was very rude..

  • I like how he dances. I don't care where he is from or what he is. He does dance beautifuly. Oleeeeee!!!!

  • Ayyyyy, sexy, Fire passion, love and oh yes, Talent! :)

  • Sexy! Fire Passion and love..oh yes and talent! :)

  • lol entire audience is women

  • Impressive showmanship...but this is not flamenco. No music, no voices, no palmas...nada. Yeah, he's a sexy dude, but that's not it really it. IT is passion, and that is missing.

  • @cosmicsister I think dancers have different ways of expressing the passion they have. I do think he shows emotions, he may not use palmas, but his hand movement and hip movement on his turns demonstrate the strong powerful dance. Let's not label dance into genres, because at the end we all interpret it differently. =)

  • you are right jovoices, the guy that filmed this video is gorgeous! lolll

  • Fantastic!!

  • Take notes Hip Hop boys, THIS is impressive to the real women! Learn this and you will never need to worry about Friday night again...or Saturday...or Sunday...or Monday....or Tuesday...or Wednesday....take a break on Thursday though....Friday night is tomorrow

  • LOOOL i agreee 1000 times ;)

  • Bravo!!! Magnificent.

  • Yes, Flamenco is the music from the Gypsies of Spain. Although it has undergone some cultural influences, Flamenco still pretains to the Gypsies of Spain.

  • off topic I know...but sexy sexy 3:45

  • Spanish bruce lee

  • Duende.

  • @beginiss I cannot disagree with what you said because I don't know when or how Flamenco became what it is today, but I just wanted to add, since you mentioned the moors, that there is still a form of tap dance in Morocco today. It has not been refined into a professional art form like Flamenco and it remained a folk dance only seen in weddings and family events. May be one day it'll receive some attention. I've always wondered about the connection if any to Flamenco.

  • flamenco was NOT formulated by moors. it was formulated by gypsies...definately influenced by moors *amongst others as well' but it was not their ultimate creation

  • Flamenco is derived from Indian dances, Kathak & others which it still very much resembles. It came with the original Gypsies who were from India. It has some other influences as well but it's roots are very much Indian.

  • dude, gypsis come from indian or middle east, long time ago. But flamenco is from Spain.

in indian ( or indian gypsis know nothing about flamenco)

  • sounds like fourth of July!

  • wow

  • impresionante,óoole Maluk!GRACIAS POR TANTO ARTE!

  • this is a real life version of the movie "Happy Feet"!

  • so beautiful amazing

  • love it, the drum player is fantastic, and well as the dancer, flemenco was formulated by the moors (muslims) as protest music against the spanish christian persecution, it is heavily influenced by North African and arabic music scales

  • You are poorly correct. flamenco grew out of the unique interplay of native Arabic, Andalusian, Sephardic, and Gypsy cultures that existed in Andalusia prior to and after the Reconquest. Latin American and especially Cuban influences have also been important in shaping the rumba flamenco form. Flamenco is the music of the gypsies and played in their social community. Andalusian people who grew up around gypsies and the life were also accepted as "flamencos" (Paco de Lucía).

  • @surlupo, I dont understand Guiri?

  • @seanamico Guiri means foreigner....I meant that flamenco is a great mix: gypsie music, arabic, morish (dont forget that many islamic invaders were berebers), and "cante jondo", typical scripts and way of singing of byzantine church.

  • @surlupo, I dont think anything can be attributed to Arab or Arabic. As far as Byzantine that is new to me. Thanks for the info.

  • @seanamico yes because in 8th century we have many influences..in the north, roman and gothic culture, in the south, islamic culture, in the east byzantine culture....Spain has many other styles of music :(

  • @surlupo, The cultures you speak of are what existed in Iran, Byzantine that were taken and brought to you, they are not Islamic or such a thing as Islamic culture ever existed. Arabs only stole & plagiarized what they could with the little capacity they had. The Omayyad that came and did well in invading Spain were in Iran, Byzantine, Egypt for a while, they had nothing to say or can call Arab.

I have been to Spain, it is a difficult country to leave once you are there, just beautiful.

  • @surlupo the celtic people also helped to colonize and found modern day spain. the visigoths as well..spain is not an arab country. it is definitely european.

  • Awesome..

  • wow!!!

dancer is great but the guy who plays the cajón is fabulous!!!

he is so focused that sometimes the instrument seems to play by itself!

    Cuando se entregan, baten palmas;

  • which rythme is this dance...?how it is called?

  • Flamenco. It´s a typical dance from Spain. Mainly Barcelona, Sevilla and Andalucía, but you can find "bailaores" anywere. Search the name Juaquin Cortes.

  • The amount of energy he is expending to remain within that tight space and improvise so magnificently, no wonder he has his shirt off, he's on fire!

  • Where is your shirt dude? JK

  • Shhhhh!!!! we like him just the way he is!!

  • "Wallah kör bara"

  • u r kewl dude...

  • impresionante y faburoso!!

  • this video was good

Paz

  • Cierto mucho talento

  • He goes in an out of of compas alot...even on easy steps.

  • You are right. His compás is all over the place. The people who gave you thumbs down don't know the difference. But he has a certain charisma.

  • easy to see why he doesn't need an ab machine from some guy with a pony tail!!!

  • amazing!!

  • No shirt with a shiny torso makes for a nice touch! ; P

  • yeah, no kidding! Is that oil or sweat on his torso? Either way, it works for me ;-)

Notice almost the entire crowd is women?? haha

  • LOL comakate!! He's nice eye candy for us ladies!! ; D Makes me feel young again, hee hee!!

  • BOOOO

  • Ladies, you may know what I mean: after watching this particular 8:40 video, you'll be happy. I was.

  • eeeeemuli, I am very, very happy!! ; D

  • i can do that, watch!

  • Que DUENDE!!!

I saw this man perform a couple of years ago and it remains, to this day the best performance I have ever seen. (It has also made me bias in my preference of male over female flamenco dancers. I went back home and enrolled in flamenco courses!

  • Sei straordinario!!!

Cortez fa pena al tuo confronto!!!!!!

  • what a god!!!

  • i wanna do that dance too.

  • damn thats good.

  • i've seen alot of flamenco and they all look alike

  • made me happy

  • He's okay, but he's not anything particularly special. If he's 'what flamenco is all about for you', I fear you've not seen much. For a male flamenco dancer he's pretty unmemorable - especially in Spain!

  • "Meh kör bara" :)

    känner igen din röst..

  • basin bayot ning tawhana!!!

  • viva yo!

  • Homeboy is bad!

  • Hey, I also have some short clips of this guy, I was in Barcelona back in 2005, I was staying in the Goth area for a few days, this looks like the same spot where I saw him. It was my last night there and I was determined to find an authentic Flamenco performer, but I did not expect to find it on the street. Funny thing is, this guy isn't even Spanish, he's from Brazil, I spoke to him for a while at the end of the night,

  • It was simply amazing--and to do it with out a shirt-and keep that form--THIS IS FLAMENCO DANCING AT ITS BEST--period--

  • Awesome Flamenco Dancer! Yeah Spain is full of real talent on the streets and the best Flamenco Dancers are on the streets. Viva la madre Patria Espana!!!

  • I saw this guy in Barcelona in December. I can tell you that HE is not off-rhythm. I tried to upload my video of him to youtube but the sound and vision got slightly mismatched once it was on the site so I removed it. This guy is excellent.

  • Thank you God

  • I rarely see any male flamenco dancers. Must be a chick thing.

  • I just saw him on las ramblas yesterday. LOVE BARCELONA!!!!

  • i went through there and never saw him....

where exactly is it by the big market?

    Lindo.

  • Oh la la.

  • off beat on beat ,the drummer went full for 8 mins+

  • its called syncopation it is really off beat duh!

  • awesome stuff

  • It is a treat to see a performance like this one in the street. But it's a pity for the dancer to say so.

  • He is just a regular dancer, amazing for those who do not understand flamenco. There are many like him. The peace he dances is soleá por buleria (12-beat), and whoever can get to this level taking intensive dance classes for a year.

  • Not an easy gigs, thin board in the open street....complex rhythms going on, so as they improvise or change tempo flow's affected, creating 'blips'. I think they're highly skilled, a treat for street entertainment. Maybe the dancer's comments echo his disappointment + frustration as a result of working in the Arts;- strike a chord? The speed and stamina of his sophisticated footwork and the strength of his muscles show that he's a serious dancer and hard worker, highly trained.

  • Definitely not Plaça de Catalunya (the huge traffic hub in the middle of downtown) - most likely Plaça Reial in Barri Gotic, which has a flamenco club in one of the arcades. The guy looks like Bruce Lee and dances like young Antonio Gade - great presence & footwork overall with a little shaky timing here and there. He's got potential.

  • yeah, forgor that it was ç, sorry.

I know, he's kinda off beat, but now and then, he's pretty good.

  • I dunno...he looks like he's pretty damn good to me...but then what do I know...i don't know how to type a "ç" either (copied that one over).

  • It's Plaça Catalunya, not Plaza. Also, his beat is a bit off the drums. Well there must be a reason why they're not on an actual stage with proper pay. "El teatro es una farsa" my ass, they just aren't good enough

  • @somaro Does anyone know who this guy is?

  • @bongobongo32 he dances on La Rambla Street in Barcelona all the time, you can find him there :) btw the experience seeing it LIVE........ can not be described!!!
