  • Unic will wonder the earth alone for forver, making everyone me meets along the way happy as he goes, that's the way Osamu Tezuka made the story.

  • ok i official hate the gods for getting jealous over him bringing happiness to everybody

    >:(

  • This version of unico is cute but I liked the other versions better

  • Poor Unico! That's always the saddest part of his story! T,T Stupid gods/Venus! UNICO FOREVER!!!

  • My goodness gracious the ending is so sad, why would she put Unico in a dark and dreadful place. If I was her I would of transfer Unico to a place where someone is there. *gasp* dont tell me Unico is at the hill of oblivion. Oh people whoever knows about this show plz say that hes not what I think it is :(

  • @truearea53

This looks very similar to the Island of Solitude that Unico starts at in the first movie, Fantastic Adventures of Unico.

This was meant to be the first episode of an anime series, so they wouldn't have put him on the Hill of Oblivion right at the start.

  • @swaswj *sigh* if your right about it thanks for that makes me feel better. Cause I had dreams that he was at the hill of oblivion that he was suffering of starvation. But I dont get it, if she put him at the same place like the 1 movie for Unico purified the island and whats sad is that Beezle used to live on that island. Why does he need to go back? unless the island is full of sorrow and is drowned in darkness.

  • At the end it was so sad, Unico was all alone again. But at the same time, it's a really happy ending since little Tico is now better. I love this story, like all of Tezuka's works. Hooray for Osamu Tezuka, the Disney of anime! :)

  • poor poor little unico....can't he ever be happy?! its not fair!! :'( waaah!!!

  • how sad =(

  • i wish unico was real

  • God Knows WE NEED HIM.

  • what did it say about unico's origins?

  • Unico is Psyche's "pet" and Venus was upset that there was "something" more beautiful than her, so she had him taken away from Psyche.

I wish there was a little Unico around who would destroy all factories! haha

  • actually venus was upset that pysche was more beautiful then her,so she took unico to make pysche sad

  • That's what I meant, hehe...but thanks.

  • this. This... you... you are awesome. I never thought I would see any more new things from unico... but now he has warmed my heart all over again. Thank you.

  • when I say new, I mean things I haven't seen before... I have the old VHS of unico, two battered unlabeled copies, and now on the way the dvd versions. Mmmm nostalgia

  • Actually this makes quite a bit of sense, as it explains how Unico got to the beach in the beginning of the first movie.

  • i think unico is a weird social commentary... or maybe im just drunk

  • this would have made an intersting series, that it would.

  • and again the girl calling for him in the end is heart breaking

  • No memory of the people or places he encountered... Its almost like The Last Unicorn before she could regret.

  • *sniff* ='3

  • Well that was a disappointing ending and it made me feel weird through out the entire film.... I like the last 2 better.

  • Looks like somebody isn't used to Japanese storytelling.

  • I felt that the other two were sorta watered down versions of Unico upon rewatching them after reading the manga (I can read Japanese btw), but this is as close to the manga as it can get.

  • hm 70's Unico isn't so bad, he's just as cute as 80's Unico and the animation is pretty good too

  • This was very nice but it didn't follow the movies... I don't care for the new history of why Unico is wandering the world... He always knew who he was and why he was being taaken away each time... Liked it but not as much as the movies...

  • This episode came first. The movies were made after this series didn't make it off the ground.

  • Well how about that... Learn something every day... I guess because I saw the movies first then is why I still like them better... It's wonderful that you were able to post all of them... My daughter (4) has watched both movies over and over... Wish I could find them on DVD...

  • A new company has picked up the license and plans to re-release them on DVD in the near-future, in dual-audio. I'll most likely take the movies down when that happens, so if the youtube vids are missing, check on Amazon or something ;)

  • @swaswj To bad that company didn't follow through.

  • I totally agree with your comment.

  • Poor lil guy when will he ever get a break :(

  • Well.. you can see why the series never got off the ground. It'd just be so utterly depressing at the end of every episode x.X; And as much as you might be able to make the center of the episode as bright and happy as possible, the fact he doesn't get to keep his friends and forgets them each time is just heart breaking..

Still, lovely just like the rest of them.

  • I want to be just like Unico when I grow up...

  • Thanks for posting this! I'm a long-time fan of the other two movies, and I had never even known about this one. But I must say, as depressing as the endings are for the other two movies, this one is even worse because he wakes up all alone! It's so sad, my heart breaks for the poor little thing!

  • Looks suspiciously similar to the island from the beginning of Fantastic Adventures of Unico, though.

  • You're right, it does! I hadn't noticed.

  • heya Nice!

i'm happy to wtach the "old version" of Unico..nice!

  • Creator of the series Osamu Tezuka , is revered as the God of Anime and manga , Tezuka's long career saw the creation of such favorites as Astro Boy, and Kimba the White Lion, and for some older rarities as Amazing Three, Tezuka's works influenced several generations of anime artists. The large eyes- small nose style is credited to him.

  • Heh, I think you mean "large eyes-small mouth" not "large eyes-small nose". I love Unico and even though I only learned more about his works later on as an adult, I consider myself a big fan of Osamu Tezuka.

  • Have they re-released any of the Unico movies here? Or are they thinking about it?

  • There's copyright and distribution issues preventing them from being re-released here. The creator died, so it's in the hands of Tezuka Industries right now.. who have no American distribution arm -- and seemingly no intention of re-releasing at all.

  • dang....

  • A pilot episode? So there's more? Interesting

    Feel bad for Unico though...

  • There was supposed to be more, but the series never got off the ground. The "pilot episode" became an OAV, and years later they made the two Unico movies instead of the series.

  • So this came out before the two movies? I thought also that there was one more movie dealing with a tree-boy befriending Unicoa also, but it was never released in the States.

  • There is, but I haven't found that one yet. It came out in 2001.

  • The 4th Unico movie is called "Saving our Fragile Earth" and isn't on video at all it's only at the Tezuka Osamu Animation Theater in Japan. So if you want to get it on video go to Japan and film it or sweet talk the guy in the projection booth.

  • I assumed as much, but it's good to have confirmation.
