Taking a charge is taught young and Duke does it better than anyone. If you have a problem with Duke getting calls get pissed at referees, not Duke.

JJ was always better at shooting the 3 than the 2. To him he feels more comfortable taking the outside shots with a lower percentage than the easy 2 point shots in the paint. He's not a dumbass. As a basketball player you are taught to always go for the highest-percentage shot you can get. While an open 3 for JJ is pretty high-percentage, it's not as automatic as an easy lay-up, so that's why he's a dumbass. He didn't take the best shot.
That's inaccurate. People didn't dislike him because he's a dumbass....academically, the kids has some skills. Very high SAT score and GPA at Duke. Talented on and off the court. I didn't mean academically, I meant in terms of basketball IQ. I admit, he was a great player with incredible talent, but his shot selection was terrible. He chose to shoot the 3 in transition in situations in which he could have gotten a much better shot. Terrible decision-making.
Second of all, he does not suck now. Sure, his defense needs some work some games, but I think to say he "SUX" is a little bit out of proportion. He did a fine job on Kobe for a great percentage of the time he was guarding him. He's almost always involved in every play on offense as well. He at least touches the ball, and if he doesn't score, he always comes up with an assist. So at that, I really don't think he sucks.

you obviously aren't taking into account that Redick shooting a three is about the same as any other shooter taking an elbow jumper, which is taught to be a good shot in situations when the defender is just gonna sit back and not guard you. JJ Redick is SO much better than other college shooters. If it was anyone else I would be skeptical, but it's not. It's JJ REDICK

If you've PLAYED basketball you would understand the concept of "working" the refs. It is more of an art form if anything. I watch EVERY Duke game, and if you wanna try to say Duke flops...It's called TAKING A CHARGE. My god you obviously have not played any serious basketball or have any good knowledge about the game. Taking a charge is taught young and Duke does it better than anyone. If you have a problem with Duke getting calls get pissed at referees, not Duke.

It's not taking a charge when you fly 20 ft. Just saying Duke has a lot of shady moments. They and many other big schools do a lot of traveling, moving picks, flopping, etc. It's just annoying to see the refs give a big school the game when they play like crap to a small school like Vermont or Rhode Island.

haha nahh dude. nothing against what you said or anything. we just think differently. like i remember in high school, it was pretty embarrassing. our basketball team was playing this horrible team, we were crushing them by 30 points. so our team just fulled around like jj was doing. but the other team ended up coming back, and beat us! so with that. i would say score as much as possible. cause it could come back in bite you in the ass ya know... but yea we just feel differently. no biggie.

actually, i kind of disagree. Although a conference title is not a national championship, the acc is generally the toughest conference in basketball. Carolina, Wake, Clemson, maybe even GT and eventually nc state if they get it back together. ACC is a powerhouse.

there was still 17 minutes left in the game... that is plenty of time for BC to sneak back into the game. so taking a three was not uncalled for at all. any team that is favored to win will tell you that you have to put away the other team when you have the chance. Look what happened to clemson vs illinois when they became complacent with their lead. its not like Duke was up by 14 with a minute left. 14 points isnt a big lead, especially with 17 minutes remaining.

JJ was always better at shooting the 3 than the 2. To him he feels more comfortable taking the outside shots with a lower percentage than the easy 2 point shots in the paint. He's not a dumbass. He took the shots that he felt more comfortable with. sure he probably shouldve gone for the easy 2 or dished it off to one of his teammates but his style was made for that type of play.

As a basketball player you are taught to always go for the highest-percentage shot you can get. While an open 3 for JJ is pretty high-percentage, it's not as automatic as an easy lay-up, so that's why he's a dumbass. He didn't take the best shot.

That's inaccurate. People didn't dislike him because he's a dumbass....academically, the kids has some skills. Very high SAT score and GPA at Duke. Talented on and off the court. I didn't mean academically, I meant in terms of basketball IQ. I admit, he was a great player with incredible talent, but his shot selection was terrible. He chose to shoot the 3 in transition in situations in which he could have gotten a much better shot. Terrible decision-making.

First of all, that's not how you spell "sucks".
Second of all, he does not suck now. Sure, his defense needs some work some games, but I think to say he "SUX" is a little bit out of proportion. He did a fine job on Kobe for a great percentage of the time he was guarding him. He's almost always involved in every play on offense as well. He at least touches the ball, and if he doesn't score, he always comes up with an assist. So at that, I really don't think he sucks.

i'm a wake forest fan but i think branden's viewpoint is a little short sighted as it addresses only the most recent duke teams and ignores luol deng. Only a few years before this era, duke produced brand, maggette, battier, dunleavy, boozer, duhon to name a few. also, if anything, i believe it strengthens the argument of coach K's quality as a college head coach if you are unable to cite successful pro careers for the players that he won championships with.
