The American people have been manipulated for a very long time. We've been conditioned not to think "too much" about things - that it's better to act instead of think. It's often not a matter of intelligence, but a matter of arrogance & selfishness. I see a large percentage of my fellow countrymen refuse to think deeply on social issues. They prefer to react from the gut & believe what they want to believe. They convince themselves that what they want is "right" to justify often immoral actions.

Exactly right. Once an informed opposition can peel back the facade of the Progressive intellectual they will find not truth or intelligence but merely (statist/despotic/oppressive) opinion propped up with arrogance and selfishness. Peeling back these layers is difficult at first but becomes easier the more you do it.
@SuperDachshund: I believe many people would be surprised at how easy seeing through the smokescreens can be once you learn (or relearn) how to think for yourself. Patterns become more easily recognizable once you take yourself out of the maze modern life has become. Only rats win in a rat race.
