before she was 20. She is thoroughly Brazilian in flavor but has an increidible sensitivity to all music. She plays a mean "Jazz bop" You got to hear the "Cross currents album, it is one of my favorites as far as her jazz works. Her interpretations of Jobim's compositions are unique and wonderfully arranged.
@tomblayze, don't use emotion or sensitivity this is based on sure talent and skills. If Lady E. had the same political and cultural influence Diana Krall has. Lady.E would be household name like Ms.Krall. Let Lady E. perform primetime, or be on Oprah, or give an HBO,showtime or HD show. that's all i am saying measure the talent and equal recognition.
diana krall is not in the same league with Lady E. Diana happens to be politically the favorable culture and race. that gives her fortune and fame..her talent and skills does not even come close to Lady E. this is from a performer, music educator (piano/keyboards), for over 50 yrs.

Diana has an american background and is more partial to american jazz while Eliane is Brazilian and has that international and latin influence. While both cross over easily they obviously excel at the styles that they grew up around.
I happen to have an abundance of love for both ladies. They are both incredibly beautiful and talented. Though they both have different styles being that they come from different cultures. Diana Krall is a straight up jazz singer and pianist. Eliane Elias is a straight up Brazilian singer and pianist. Both of them can mix it up and do both genre with no problem. And that's what jazz is all about...
a lot of modulations here (key changes) that masks the few changes in the theme. Secondly- Eliane is thinking vertical - her impros demonstrate that. Thirdly- her feel is great))) I mean time feel) thats how she does all that miraculous stuff that she does...
