  • very explicit instructions....thank you.

  • ....this is modular kirigami

  • I've been spoiled by Phu Tran's rose. This rose looks hideously deformed compared to even Tahikazu Kawasaki's rose. At least you aren't charging $10 for this design.

  • if you do instructional videos, don't add music in the background. Beautiful music, but it's distracting and make it hard to follow (not joking)

  • you must roll amazing joints :P

  • wow, just wow.

  • Very simple but wonderful ! Thank you.

  • I just love watching your videos, so helpful! :)

  • is it ok to use pipe cleaners?

  • You can certainly try pipe cleaners but I think they might be too fluffy. The stem - made of 5 long doubled up pipe cleaners - would be REALLY thick.

  • Rose is beautiful. All I need is some floral wire(:

  • You can find floral wire at any craft store, it is a fairly common crafting thing!

  • your rose is very nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it is the best, i can't wait too get started

  • Hey Lisa, is it possible to do stem with a paper, not with a wire. I just want it to be totally origami without any additions. Thanks in advance!

  • it doesint lokk like a rose

  • yes it does, you have to do it a few times. I was interested in using money. gee, mine looked good the first Time. I think Ms Shea has the best video so for. She takes her time, unlike some others, who rush so fast.

  • Thanks so much! It looks so easy! I might try it someday if I can get a floral wire.

  • Yes, I think she has the best one so far. I did it with money, and I was surprised mine came out so nice.

  • omg its so hard to start with origami. just wanted to make a rose for my girlfriend and watched some videos but failed to make a rose. But now I'm into it and want to learn every sculpture- tried it with a crane, a scorpion but I think that those are bit to difficult for beginners too... anyway- I wont give up ;)

  • roses are not exactly for beginners either :P

but it sure is my favourite origami model :)

    good luck

  • Definitely start easy! You want to start with the basic cup and dove and such. Work your way up to the harder shapes.

  • so confused origami is hard very hard super hard all i can make is a fortune teller( u shuld make a fortune teller video) origami is hard

  • you need to start slow :) Begin with the drinking cup. I bet you can do that one!

  • Ms Shea, I want to thank you for showing your origami the rose.I finally got to master it. You have been very helpful to me. Now I can make some money roses as gifts for the holiday.

  • yes sometimes it is a tad bit difficult. However, I found the rose by Ms Shea to be easy. She takes her time, like like some of them who just want to show you they can do origami. It is at first a tad bit tricky, buy you can do it. I finally got to see how to make it. It took me over 10 years. A ex-co worker of mine use to make alot of my money rose gifts. Now I can do it myself. What makes it good is that it is a video, you can stop it and go. Good luck John.

  • Such a beautiful creation! Thankyou for uploading this video - I really want to make this soon! :D Great job!

  • It's one of the more complex shapes - not because of folding, but because there are multiple things to assemble. It's well worth practicing, though!

  • I agree - even though there are multiple things to assemble, it's well wotrth it in the end! (I happen to enjoy assembling things anyway). :)

  • Thank you Lisa.I saw a housekeeper in our hospital give these money roses to another staff member. She kept making excuses in teaching me.Now I will be able to make these as gifts..truly one of a kind!!!Thank you..Love this video!!!

  • They are definitely great gifts - pretty to look at, and then functional as a cash present too!

  • doing the same things all the way = ="

  • can you please tell me were you got the string pretty please thank you i send you a friend invite ! friend

  • That is actually not string, it is thin wire. Just about any florist shop or craft shop has it, it is used for making flower displays with.

  • The rose bud part looks too crouded

  • Remember, this is paper, so you can make it look as dense or loose as you wish. If you go to a rose website (i.e. one with lots of pictures of roses) you'll see that roses in nature come in all levels of density.

  • those are very beatiful >.>

  • What is great is you can make a dozen white roses for a wedding present, a dozen red roses for someone you love, a dozen blue roses for a friend who loves blue ... the possibilities are endless!

  • Ok, I´m going to make a rose for my Soprano teacher. We will see...

  • You mean you can do it with money paper?

  • I'm not sure what you mean by money paper :) Dollar bills are made of paper, so yes, those are money. You can make a rose from a bunch of dollar bills, for a present. It's a great way to give someone a present of $5 (or $25 or whatever) that makes the gift special.

  • money is not made of paper its made of a pressed pulp it doesnt even have any trees in the pulp

  • Hmmm the Bureau of Printing and Engraving site says: "The basic face and back designs of all denominations of United States paper currency, except the backs of the $1 and $2 denominations in general circulation today, were adopted in 1928." Paper is defined as "a substance made from wood pulp, rags, straw, or other fibrous material, usually in thin sheets, used to bear writing or printing, for wrapping things, etc."

  • Tome Origami is about making stuff out of paper! Origami does not have a rule book that states you have to fold something so many times before it can be considered actual Origami so you show me where the rule book is and where it says how many folds are required and I'll take back what i just said !

  • You are very right :) Even the simple cup design is origami, and that has only a few folds. In fact that is the pure form of origami - functional, beautiful, only the essential moves necessary. Again the tea ceremony comes to mind. It's not about being fancy. It's about doing, elegantly, a simple activity.

  • Why do u call it Origami? this isnt origami at all...

  • There is no cutting of the paper once it is made to be its correct size. Origami is not about using only 6" x 6" squares of paper. You can do origami with a wide variety of initial paper sizes.

  • that was far away from what i meant. Origami is when u make something with paper yes, but all u do is roll the corners with a tooth pick and then put three of them together with strings. Origami is folding and something comes up at the end and not like this...

  • Actually I have a full history of origami on my lisashea site. The history of this art form involves paper to be used as artwork. Many origami shapes involve multiple pieces of paper, and various activities other than straight edge folding. Origami artists loved to think outside the box :)

  • so what? Origami is art, but much more advanced than what ur making here...

  • The art of origami does not include only advance shapes, just as the art of painting does not only include complex works such as the Night Watchman. Everyone must start with the basics. These origami videos are to help beginners - not to provide tips for experts. In fact, Japanese culture *treasures* the most basic, simple art forms. Read up on the tea ceremony. It is never about being complex.

  • im amazed

  • As far as I know this is the traditional design, but I'm not sure about "most common" - there are probably hundreds of ways to make many origami shapes :) Feel free to customize this one as suits your own needs!

  • Is this the most common kind of dollar bill rose?

  • Thanks for this posting!!

  • Yay! Always wondered how people did this. =)

  • I love it!!!!

  • It really does make a pretty rose. The one here was rushed, to fit within the 10 minute YouTube limit, but if you do it slowly and carefully it is *gorgeous*. You can make a dozen for a bouquet!

  • you are definately awesome.

  • Thanks so much! This was the most complicated design I've posted, but it is definitely one that many people asked for. It's well worth the effort.
