unfortunately there is a lot of discrimination against dark skinned women. Most of my pain growing up was from the words of dark skinned men. They hated themselves and sought fit to spread their insecurities. Honestly it got to the point where I only dated white men, because I felt they appreciated me and saw the beauty in the color. I have heard that "youre pretty for a dark skinned girl" line many times. or "youre the first dark girl ive ever liked" . Come on now. Thats not a compliment!

there was a gathering in my neighborhood not to long ago that brought out a lot of elderly people. These are people who first moved into my subdivision over 60 years ago. I notice that all of them were light skinned and I know of some of the jobs they had were not the jobs my father worked in. People in those days DID NOT DATE/MARRY ANYONE NOT THEIR COLOR! This was a fact of life out here. I used to hear parents tell they kids not to play with me cuz im too dark, and the girls got it worse..

Dark-skinned girl checking in but with an atypical response. My pops is light my mom is dark. The first person to every tell me I was beautiful was my daddy. He raved over my mother's beauty and after 38 years of marriage still does. By the time I started school and heard the negative things it was too late. I had proof that I was beautiful at home. I am the only one in my family that has the skin color of a hershey's milk chocolate bar while my family is the color of mocha & peanuts. lol.

unfortunately there is a lot of discrimination against dark skinned women. Most of my pain growing up was from the words of dark skinned men. They hated themselves and sought fit to spread their insecurities. Honestly it got to the point where I only dated white men, because I felt they appreciated me and saw the beauty in the color. I have heard that "youre pretty for a dark skinned girl" line many times. or "youre the first dark girl ive ever liked" . Come on now. Thats not a compliment!

Solution:
1. Recognize that race is a social contruct and abandon it.
2. Establish clear rules, principles and traditions that will maintain Black American culture, history and heritage
2. Define ones self by culture, not by race
3. Understand the people in the culture have different tones and colors
4. Teach the generations of children who will be born in Black culture that the tones and colors have no particular meaning or worth, they just are what they are.

there was a gathering in my neighborhood not to long ago that brought out a lot of elderly people. These are people who first moved into my subdivision over 60 years ago. I notice that all of them were light skinned and I know of some of the jobs they had were not the jobs my father worked in. People in those days DID NOT DATE/MARRY ANYONE NOT THEIR COLOR! This was a fact of life out here. I used to hear parents tell they kids not to play with me cuz im too dark, and the girls got it worse..
