The idea is not to give the dummy a beat down. The idea is to guide your attackers force away and to strike before he realizes what's going on. In Bagua if you use hard force against your attacker your doing it wrong. Your movements need to be smooth and flowing...
How come it doesn't look like you are putting very much power into your strikes? It looks almost like you are giving it a pat down rather than a beat down.
Well its not so much the presentation i care aout ut more less the actions and key movements and i see the man knows moves by the little bagua walk around the dummy plus he does know the knife hands and although it isnt very entertaining to watch at least this person has ideas he was willing to share to all us for our advancement so because of this i say to this gentlemen congrads on a job well done and thank-you for helping inspire all those who train as well and as hard as you do.
i have a question, in bagua there are usually no dummies right? is the dummy something that you came up with casue i think its a great way to practice and im interested in how to apply my different forms on it.
@phil7514 Yes there is an actual wooden dummy. See Earle Montigues video Check for the correct spelling or search in Bagua videos. I just made the dummy out of pvc because if you do find someplace to buy it online it will cost you close to $1000
Interesting vid. It's nice to see genuine Pa Kua movements being used on this kind of apparatus. I've only seen Wing Chun 'wooden dummy' practice before this, and it's given me some nice ideas. To the guy who's going on and on about the 'conditioning' benefits of this and the oh-so-secret nature of these training methods -- you must have well-conditioned neck muscles to support a head so densely packed with crap.
Just go to a lumber yard for the wood. BTW, I don't recommend this form for beginners, it will instill to much confidence and it won't truly condition the body for combat if there is body structure to base moves from. Secondly, plastic offers to much give, it bounces and flexes, therefor it won't condition the bones and tendons to deliver powerful strikes. In order to stimulate bond density, you need to strike something solid. Metal is too hard for the body, plastic is to soft, wood is ideal.
Brother, your kung fu, chuan fa, bagua or taiji or anything you wanna call it is very good. PVC PIPING IS AS GOOD AS ANYTHING ELSE FOR CONDITIONING PHYSICALLY. Wood is a spiritual tool that is invaluable once one has reached a level of internal knowledge and skill to feel the elemental power of wood. That being said, your movements are flowing and powerful. If you have good static qigong regimen then your lack of head movement and up and down movement is not necessary because of iron body. thx
Don't worry about it. I know no reason why I should tell you not to post the form. I was simply defensive because I am teaching this form as part of my Ba Gua Curriculum. Mine is far different, I'll post a little to show you the some difference and some similarities. I'm not upset anymore, I realize no show of the movements can replicate what I can teach anyone anyway. Keep up the practice.
@9alleys AKA Activestone. Thanks for your comments. Yes I did learn the first 4 dummy forms from Dr Torres as well as the 8 pole movements and the Dragon Heart forms. I did not test for a rank because I'm tired of shelling out money. And don't feel the need to impress anybody with a rank. I practice Bagua and Tai Chi Chuan because I love it, not so I can make money from it because I do teach some Tai Chi classes. I don't teach Bagua...Btw I do have a Black sash in Guang Ping Yang Tai Chi
You can purchase the wood for under $150.00. Without a real wooden dummy, your making your bagua weaker. Without real power in practice, anyone could break through any of your movements. Those little double taps, are not correct, they display weakness, the dummy is weak and couldn't handle one real strike, it would fall over, or break the arms off. The movements your doing are not as powerful as the ones I learned, you lack the power stances, there is no tiger, no EQ, no empty etc.
@9alleys where can one buy a wood dummy for $100, if you really know where to buy let me know and post it so others can also buy one. otherwise what he made out of pvc should be more than adequate for a beginner.
This is Activistone, I'm responding from another channel I have. I think it's great if you want to teach the form, but it would be more auspicious to just show a sample, not the whole thing. For your own benefit, why would anyone pay you to learn, if they could just copy from the youtube video. Secondly, I do know, because I know you learned this from Dr. Torres. I'm his student, and black sash in Ba Gua. You can see at the end of my video of the Dragon Heart form, I have a real wooden dummy.
@rammsteingod666 This is a bagua Zhang dummy. The original is made of a hardwood and if you can find it anywhere it will cost you big bucks. I made this one.
I'm sorry but I think your a bagua dummy to just give away this valuable form like this. I know other won't just figure it out but it's the principle of the matter no?
The thing is so light weight and cheap with the padding you will never condition your body the way the wooden dummy is used for.You can't flow as well because you can't really hit it. It's better to take this down for it's giving away too much.
@activistone Actually you don't know what you are talking about. You have no idea what this dummy feels like, with or without the padding. What do you say about that?
Is this what the good Jet Li used to defeat the bad Jet in "The One"?

You should make a short video, like others do, just showing that you know it, without showing the whole form.
