Demon's Soul's Walkthrough - Vanguard Boss Fight

This guy looks so wimpy compared to the Dark Souls tutorial boss.

i'd call the Vanguard more of a mini-boss. It was classified a boss at first, but it was the first world of the game and your character isn't very strong, for a world 4 enemy, i'd call it a mini boss. Kinda similar in that sence to a gold skeleton. If you want to consider it a boss because it drops the Grey Soul, then just think of it as a Primeval Demon. Just a mini-boss.

you could just take your armour off, it would make you faster and he would never get a hit in.

Just use the Thief's Ring and stay a good distance away and keep using the fire spell... He won't even come near you. Just make sure you have enough spice to last for quite a few spells

Hey guys the vanguard isn't there in 4-1... i have to say, that i've already beaten the adjudicator... if i've already killed the adjudicator, is the vanguard also gone? is there acutally no chance to beat him anyway??

This guy is so easy. Just roll under his axe all the time, he'll never hit you =D I just killed him in the Tutorial with a Shield (wore it 2h). And then again after 1-1 with Kilji

@AfricanSnowman If you have high STR and DEX meat clever , for PVP Scraping Spear , Large Sword of Searching for farming ores and grass ecc., Dozer if you want true damage and don't care of the weight of your character. I would go for meat clever :D

@aegreon As far as I know, it's not possible to kill Vanguard DURING the tutorial.

I love this game, in the tutorial you are supposed to die by your vangaurd encounter, but i pwned him (Easy with a magician, Knight takes more skill (My fav way to kill it) theif has a dagger, it is still possible, havn't tried other classes yet. Probably will in the near future tho. But atleast you get a grey demon's souls on the first few minutes =P, either eat it or turn it into a Meat Cleaver

I beat the game without soul leveling, it was pretty fun. Hardest boss was probably man eater. Flame lurker was pretty hard too. Started of as barbarian so i can use DBS with 2 hands! i Beat this guy with sticky white stuff + DBS. took me few tries though cause he 1 hits me.lol

I have killed this guy in the tutorial lots of times, if you have good timing for dodge rolling, hes really not that hard, sure he can kill you in one shot.

@SuperGameGames First, you acquire a grey demon's soul, and then you are teleported to a large room with plenty of good items.In that room ,there are pillars, and behind those pillars, is the dragon god. After picking up all of the loot, you are forced to head out of the room, which leads to getting Falcon PAWNCHED by the Dragon God, thus resulting in death. It's basically a more interesting way to end the tutorial.

When going Black Phantom on this level, try teaming up with Vanguard to take down the other player.

I recently used this method to beat a guy who had two allies; this brute can really level the playing field!

Round 2 stands for the fact that you've already fought the Vangard had you played the tutorial and MORTAL KOMBAT is for the fact that he is tough and can kill you in 1 hit!...I also wanted to make a street fighter/mortal kombat reference aswell!

Er, yeah, now that makes sense. This guy is like King Allant in the tutorial, but the SECOND time you fight him, he is such a pushover. I made a second character (Temple Knight) and entered the fight in the tutorial. I get him to 3/4 health, then he hits me once. I see my health practically sucked outta me, and put down the controller. Then, outta nowhere, my character stands up!!! I'm thinking "OMG! YES! YES!" So I keep fighting him get him to 1/8 health, then he kills me in one hit. >:(

Aw, LUCKY!!! I don't really like the Temple Knight as a STARTING class. Sure he starts with a Talisman of God and the Heal miracle, but if you have a shield and one hand and his Halberd in the other, it makes you look stupid when attacks. Plus, it's slow. I bet I would've had a better chance killing the Vanguard with my first character, which was a Knight.

Get your Sticky Long Compound bow to +5 and shoot him from the wall. Takes 13 arrows or so (heavy arrows). I didn't even bother with half the bosses in melee. Fool's Idol was a joke like that too...

Did this with a Nobel I created . She was only like soul level 20 I believe and I just sat back and fired at him with magic till he died lol. Never even came after me. Mage classes are FTW, and their melee is just as good as a wanderers or theifs.

You could also just shoot the vanguard with arrows until it dies. If you're out of its range, it won't walk after you.

so i did a new game being a Wanderer, AND DAMN, THIS IS MY PERFECT CLASS

sometimes that can be even more dangerous! if an enemy gets up close to you and your not prepared for them youll die really easily. im using a mage/sword fighter combo so im only lightly armoured but there is a boss fight where im on a high walk way and i cant roll around freely to avoid attacks and seeing as how ive only light armour on when that boss hits me im nearly dead before ive done any damage this is on a new game+ run through and the difficult gets so very hard but i love the challenge
