  • I taped it too!! I was seven years old. The programme that followed was Russ Abbott.

  • I saw my Christmas TV in 1987 at Grandma Purry's.

  • oh yesssssss

  • Best Indy film that ever made!

  • And this was definitely 1987. 1988 had Back to the Future BBC 1 and The Empire Strikes Back on ITV. Don't ask...

  • This must have been its premiere because in order that film be broadcasted on television for its premiere, it takes three years.

  • It was definitely the UK TV premiere.

  • i still have this vhs version of indy too, and loads of these bbc link bits on video. i always thought this was 88 though. its definitely 87 is it?

  • Yeah, it was 1988.

  • But michael, udo...this isn't the 1988 beeb Christmas sequence - I agree with it being 1987

..It WAS definitely shown in 1989, whihc I recorded.

  • Ah, but what about The Sound of Music? Ah..

  • That print they are using looks like the one they used a few weeks back. I wonder if this 1987 showing is the cut version that still is on UK DVD today. I was 4 in 1987 so cant remember this. Pick up the USA DVD for the uncut version of the film. Thanks for uploading I am interested in this kind of thing greatly.

  • @mononokehime316uk this was the cut version shown in 1987,minus a swear word & some of the heart ripping scene.curiosly the monkey brains scene was left intact.still have this recording on an old vhs somewhere in the archives.

  • @MrWilliestrokes me too i taped it on that day, too! good memories.

  • I still have the VHS taping of 'Indiana Jones' I taped that Christmas back in '87 - I was only 7

  • I was aged 7 too at Christmas 1987 too. Over the years I taped indiana jones but not too sure if it was from xmas 1987. If that was that would be coinsidence!

  • Definitely '87. It had a HUGE audience too. One of the most watched movies in British TV history.

  • The sequence with the 2 guards is a good bit but it's always puzzled me b/c TOD is a prequel to ROTLA. Since Indy hasn't yet had the encounter with the Cairo Swordsman, why is he smiling so ironically? I know it's just a joke but it bugged me that Lucas/Spielberg ignored the continuity for a quick laugh.

  • Far from it.While the scene is a nod to the Cairo Swordsman scene in Raiders,Indy smirks because he knows that he is in over his head again.

  • Nothing like Indiana Jones for Christmas!

  • anyone youtube trailers for the 1989 showings (ToD on BBC 1 and Raiders on ITV) or anymore late 1980s to early 90s BBC 1 Christmas trailers? E.g. E.T., Croc Dundee, BTTF etc. Post them!! Esp after 1991 trailers.
